Harp:
I was captivated from the beginning with your instrumentation and mood/atmosphere. But I felt it needed more melody, otherwise it'll just be background music . . unless that was your intention, hehe.

Mp3 version :)

whatever
May 4th, 2005, 08:32 am
harp reminds me of the music in the ice world of secret of mana, or maybe also cave music in ffvii. the song is really good.

battle flow was great, havent heard mp3 version yet. i presume the soundfont is better there.

EDIT: heard mp3 version of battle flow, excellent, just as the mus file, only better sound of course. i have one suggestion though: i think in the mp3 version you have too much... hmmm shall we say legato? instead try to put more staccato.... or hmmm maybe its the effects that make the sounds blur. its kinda hard to explain, but you can compare it to playing a melody while holding the sostenuto pedal on the piano down all the time. IMHO battle music should be crystal clear in its instruments. of course you can have sostenuto on some instruments, but overall it should be, you know, kind of hard and rough. but this is just my opinion and one idea.

eeehhh.... or maybe it is called the sustain pedal.... :heh:

Ya, your right.
Ill be sure to try that. ^_^

I have finale 2005 full version(not notepad). :D

Al
May 5th, 2005, 02:52 am
As a battle theme, it sounds excellent and real. I only wish there was a stronger melody. It'll help give your music direction, rather than a constant undiscernable 'flow'.

Klonoa
May 5th, 2005, 04:53 am
This is something I just made a while back. It needs work :heh:
I just put some words together for the name.

whatever
May 5th, 2005, 08:48 pm
wow this is great, it reminds be of kingdom hearts. this is a good battle music or just as a dungeon music. imagine myself playing inside a real dark castle or something like that

Gempyre:
This one needs work? Eh? Not really =P There's no real theme, but I guess that's okay for background music. How about a mini-climax?

Insaneclown:
I found it interesting how you made the circus idea recognizable to us, yet at the same time, you made it unique for yourself. However, it sounds more like a silly clown than an insane clown to me, and for the life of me I couldn't tell you the difference o.0

indecisive:
I bet you could have yourself a fancy drum solo with that funky-sounding accompaniment?

an-kun
May 6th, 2005, 02:21 pm
I liked the clown one. Does remind me of how clowns are really scary. I think it would make great background music.

May 19th, 2005, 05:29 pm
I like your bass ostinato, but I'm glad to see you didn't stick to just that for the duration of the whole piece . . and I like how you've split up the melody between the strings in a sort of duet/counterpoint.

Finale '05, sounds sexy. I'm going to pirate it today, almost finished dling it over my torrent.

I loved the Insane Clown. Reminds a bit of Danny Elfman... The sound-effects work nicely.

Lost is beautiful and intense.

(I don't download MP3s, too slow connection and they take too long. Pity. I like your style.)

Town: Definitely finish it! I'm very much interested in hearing what happens next to this town. Sounds like it's doomed though xP . . but yeah, once you know how to finish it, you'll get the direction going for the piece.

Tainted: Very RPG-ish, hehe . . good job with the orchestration. Just the right amount of dissonance in my opinion for the 'tainted' theme. Hmm, the very ending . . while it was good, I wonder if you should take out the drums? *shrugs*

Klonoa
May 28th, 2005, 10:52 pm
Actually the drums were extracted from my other song. I just never got around to making its own, but i see what u mean at the end.

Shizeet
June 6th, 2005, 02:05 am
This is a pretty neat piece, though it doesn't really remind me of a town theme at all. Actually, the harmony reminds me a lot of the "main" theme from Xenogears, with a sort of dramatic somberness. Anyways, it sounds good to me for the most part; however, you should really try to smooth out those transitions, which feel too sudden for just "background music". Also, you might want to vary the velocity levels a tad more for the drums, especially on those snare rolls.

Town: Glad to hear you finished it =) I don't know, the amount of repetition tells me you had a hard time figuring out what to do with the song =T But meh, it still sounds really good for what you got out of it.

i like 'battle theme 2'. i love the intro. i always like battle theme because it is fun to see how people interpret their own battle mood. i like your drum, but i think it would have been lot better if you didnt keep the beat the same throughout the whole song. but hey.. that's just me. once again... this piece is awesome.

Al
June 8th, 2005, 08:21 pm
Fierce is a nice battle theme, haha. Makes me wanna compare it with 'battle theme 2' *thinks* . .

Forest

Very distinguishable piece! I can't quite place my finger at all on which instruments I'm hearing, but I sure like how they mesh together. I like the pizzicato a lot! Good percussion line. Well-defined bass instrument parts. Overall, a very thematic song with a lot of potential for setting a scene to music! :)

June 16th, 2005, 10:31 am
@ Fierce~
I really liked it ._. I kept playing it in the background while I was working on my website. ^^ I like the development and the intro especially, the drums set the beat very well. Great work! =DD

@ Forest~
The oriental sounding instruments in this are awesome, they set the scene almost perfectly. The introduction of the hihat (I think?) is good too, instead of using bass drums for the entire thing. The melody of the oriental instruments is quite abstract, I like it. ^____^ -goes to listen to again-

Al
June 17th, 2005, 01:20 am
Wow, I've never heard a forest theme like this before =P pretty good. You've got some good counterpoint going on. You can keep this thing going!

Ooh, that sounds intriguing... ^_^

Only thing, the bells don't have enough room; perhaps you could replace them with another instrument and only accentuate one/two beats per bar with bells? I'm aware you can't get rid of them as they're essential to the mood.

It's generally fascinating, how well you integrate percussion instruments, with melody bearing ones...

Destined

Good introduction. :) At first, it seemed to be slightly atonal, but as the strings and the other various melodic parts slowly weaved their way into the complex texture of the backing instrument, I instantly was drawn in to listen to every note carefully. I particularly like the little nuances of the cadenza-like parts exchanged between the strings and harp/musicbox/celesta (whatever that high instrument is... :P). I think it's a very pleasing loopable song with a great potential to be placed as a video-game backdrop. :) Pleasing, indeed.

Great tune. Pastoral memories?

This one suffers from being midi more than the others, I feel. It would sound so much better played live... (that's true for all compositions, but especially for this one).

Okay..

The title caught my attention right away, I think it's nice.. but the piece itself didn't remind me of an ocean at all. If it weren't for the MIDI waves you put in, there would be no ocean feeling. The flute/piccolo you used occasionly was a good addition, along with the bass. This song would make a decent background piece, especially because you made it loop. Since you didn't use a clear melody line, you could buff up the atmospheric feeling by adding more SFX.

Klonoa
July 8th, 2005, 01:46 am
Thanks I know the i couldnt really get the ocean feeling either The ocean sound was just a late addition. I have a hard time getting a good melody.

New World Rhythm is pretty interesting, though I think you could've made the "rhythm" even more interesting but to each, his own :P. The balance feels a bit off, though, especially for the bongos, which are barely audible with the default MS-GS synth. Also, I got somewhat tired of listening to the barebones harmony after a while - it would've been nice if one of the sections had a more harmonically full sound for contrast. But it's not bad at all - keep it up.
