This is my first composition that i've managed to doodle with on a computer program. I usually just memorise them all. This one was experimental and i admit the last quarter of the piece bores me too. I couldn't be bothered to finish it properly but i might make it better one day. Enjoy (if you can :heh: ).

why the heck is the title called index!?? @_@

=P never thought I'd see the day that you'd post your own compositions . . and what? No no, you're wrong, this sounds far from an experiment. Everything's proper and structurized, really good. The duet works really well in my opinion. You sound like you know what you're doing =)

thanks Al. It was more of an experiment with the computer though. I'm rubbish with computers. The song was meant to be for the duet composition month award thing but I only finished it last week. Just slightly late... hehe.

I take it nobody else wants to comment or rate it. If you don't, I'm assuming its flawless to you guys although to me it's full of them especially dynamics wise. I'm so lazy that I'm surprised I even finished this piece. peace out.

pretty.... beginning's familiar. but from where?? is the left hand inspired at all from the left hand to the theme of FF Advent Children? And those chords at the beggining they sound like the theme song from the movie pearl harbor. But it's very very pretty. Sounds like the flute and the violin are dancing.

::listening for the third time:: where are the flaws you were talking about??

He meant that since we're not commenting on his piece, it must be perfect, no flaws =P

Hey! The last quarter of it didn't bore me. As a matter of fact, nothing about it bored me. I liked it all. It was all great. ^_^ Images of a beautiful, peaceful town drifted into my mind--a town I'd like to explore. So, really: it was great. On a scale of 1/10, I'll give it a 8.

Good job. =D

Yeah my mate said it sounded liek evanescence but I've never heard the song. It's actually inspired by the fact that Al is a good composer and it made me want to become better. So thanks Al! I didn't mean to make it sound like the song you said it was, it happened to be cooincidence. I started composing it before it was released...just didn't finish it until after XD

Edit: thanks for all the comments! Also I'd get really pissed off if anyone transcribes any of my compositions back into sheet music by programs and stuff (after reading Fob's thread) and editing it is a NO! Phew thought I'd say that.

53 downloads and this many comments? Guess I'd have to make one better then... ^_^

a really good piece. duet is very melodious. you are one of the few i've heard that actually has a song that sounds like a story. the structure is there. However, i was hoping for a climax, but i didn't feel that there was any. having said that, it is a very well made composition, even if this was an experiment. I'd say it was a very successful one. an 8.5 out of 10.

Wow, there must be something wrong because I've managed to finish another one.
The ending is a bit iffy again but I couldn't think of how to make it better yet. I will do when I come up with ideas though. This is a bit poppy (intentionally) but yer... :heh:

This is the first piece I've ever put drums in and I have no idea what to do with them but I tried. I need a drummer's help probably. Enjoy! ^_^

P.S. Thanks for all the comments so far. Yeah, I was hoping to make a climax when I started it but I didn't get round to bothering. It was meant to be longer but I became lazy :heh: I'll think about editing one in though.

Edit: I just realised that I might have to edit the end to make it more climactic but I'd just leave the song up for you lot to listen.

Hey! I really liked it. It was beautiful. ^_^ Really soothing and, like you wanted, relaxing. I could see this being the theme of the ending credits of a game, and I'd really feel accomplished hearing this afterwards, too.

And, you used your drums well. Being that you wanted the mood to be relaxing, they don't overshadow anything or dominate. They fit in quite fine. ^_^ I'm currently composing a boss theme and a Middle Eastern-sounding theme (that I can see being typically used for some desert town or whatever) and, in both, for the first time, I'm using drums. So, I know how that is. Listen to FF Battle music (or any battle music, really) and RPG music in general to become better acquainted with how to use them.

Despite the lack of a climax, it was still good.

Good job. ^_^

::swaying:: me like! :wub:

omg it makes me think of graduation.....SAD!
Like Apollo said it gives a sense of accomplishment. Hmm I dont like the end/climax tho. It feels like you wanted to add one in...so u did (does that makes sense? lol) . Like you have one just for the sake of having one....am i making sense :/ ?

ps. I LOVE the beginning tho!! So....wow good job, Ank.

Relaxed: Despite the nice atmosphere, it didn't put me to sleep, and that's good =P Not much I can say, it's good, you have a feel for composing ^^ Maybe you don't need a climax, it wouldn't fit the intended idea of relaxation. But you still need to let us know when the piece is ending!

Good piece. I wonder if you wanted the dissonances in the beginning, but nevertheless: fine! It brings a bit of an idyllic setting, that's something really hard to achieve. Keep up the good work.

Edit: My browser messed around, so I didn't see the other composition. Relaxed is even better, it's really the perfect music for the ending of a game, like: The heroes stand on a tall mountain and overlook the world they just saved. Very fine, though I thought at the beginning this would be some really evil music. And the last tutti chord is a bit too loud in my opinion. But that's just nutpicking, because the music is really great. And the drums sound good.

Yeah I the song is completely Evanescense- My imortal, In the beginning.
But otherwise it was a very nice song.

Good Joob

And I repeat, I've never heard that song before and I composed it before it even came out so it's just cooincidence! I still haven't bothered to try and listen to it either. It's a common friggin chord sequence people that's been used many times before! How can you not possibly know it? Argh! I would hate to rip off songs. Maybe I'll edit it to something better. Really does take the piss when a professional band rips your music off by accident. It isn't exactly the same is it? Or does it just sound too similar? This is actually starting to piss me off...

Fob
May 25th, 2005, 11:05 pm
:shies away from ank and his anger: The song is really good regardless. And that uh...(chord progression did you call it?) chord progression is used alot I've heard it in ALOT of songs. Plus we know you wouldn't copy (or at least I do). :comfort:

Well if you ever saw me in real life pissed off, you'd actually be scared to death. I don't really get angry often so its really weird when I do...but yer I'm still pissed off.

Edit: I think I may be over-reacting though.

Oops! Thanks for all the comments though. Even the ones with Evanescence (grrr!) in them.

Evanescence sucks anyway, ignore people who compare your work with those Linking Park wannabees. Your work is nice, I know zilch about composing but I do know when I like listening to a song.

:o ::hyperventilating:: ok this is really off-topic and I'm sorry ank but I must!

Linkin* Park

:sigh: that's better

Ok so anyway. You're compos are great, Ank, so don't let it bother you ^_^

Okay, this is a midi of me improvising on my keyboard. Somehow the timer on the recording program screwed up big time so the piece sounds rushed. Also I couldn't play as fast as I would have liked because the computer couldn't keep up with me sometimes because it was old so I tried to slow things down which messed up the timing. Technically this is a composition because I had to arrange all this together to make it sound good. There's no dynamics because the program i use doesn't do that <_< . The real improvisation is from 0:20 in to the end apart from a little bit from 1:06 which is a link to the next section. I might do a better one of the same thing if I have time to record it in (it takes a lot of effort to move the equipment around). It does sound a lot better in real life though. I just don't have the facilities to prove it <_< <kicks comp>

EDIT:removed for the time being

Like it. Fast blues piano, then a change in the mood. :)

There's no dynamics because the program i use doesn't do that <_< .

But there are dynamics. I thought I heard them, so I checked in my composition program, and the velocity of the notes ranges from roughly 60 to over 100 (although, if you divide it into into sections, there's mostly a velocity change of about 10). In chords you can even see that the little finger hits the keyboard with less power than the thumb!

I suspect that the dynamics that are there come from the recording, and what you meant to say is that you have no control over the dynamics in the editing?

It does sound a lot better in real life though. I just don't have the facilities to prove it <_< <kicks comp>

You don't have to prove it. I fully believe, it sounds better in real life. ^_^
