I watch an old anime way back around 1999, i can't remember the title of the series. Would anyone please tell me who's the best person to ask?

If you tell us what the anime series was about, we might have a better time telling you the name of the series. We, or at least I, can't read minds.

i only remember the opening and the ending. It was set in some high school in japan. A rival to the main character doing something funny which causes all the people around him (including the main character) got send back to some sort of dimension thingy. There are magic and fantasy sort of stuff in that dimension. The main character joins the good guys and his rival does the opposite. The ending was strange, showing the main female character running up the slope towards the guy. And then a pair of angel wing grows from his back when they hug. that is all i remember.
