Well, its almost begun - certaintly the best E3 since PS2 and GC were introduced (2000?). Discuss anything related to E3, including games in development, Gaming Industry Issues and...

The Next-Gen Consoles: PS3, XBox 360, and Nintendo "Revolution"!!!!

Let's see what the industry prepared for us, shall we :D

Here is a really good index of all the games that are going to appear at E3! I cannot wait to see what's in store for us! Keep checking that link to see all the updates during the show and all the exclusive details and such. IGN.com always do a good coverage and get every gritty detail XD

Ha - im proud of the russian gaming magazine (Gameland) - It's the only magazine that is acknowledged by everyone in the industry, so they get invited to most studios and of course E3 and TGS: the coverage they bring back is a bit late but it worth it - the emphasis is not on the games/consoles/etc. It's on the Booth Babes, definitely the best part of ANY game show :D

Funny, the Dutch Power Unlimited also is acknowledged by everyone in the industry  except for Ion Storm who didn't send them a copy of the N64 version of Daikatana, but no one cares about Ion Storm.

Oh, and Power Unlimited actually tells stuff about the games which is good because it's a games magazine.

The booth babes is something I never really understood about those shows, but I figure it's to attract the nerds who otherwise never get to look at a female body (asides from pr0n that is). =P

Not really, you gotta have someone cosplay there, and present the merchandise. You have them in any industry, where they're trying to sell you stuff (for example automobile shows). I doubt that they are used to attract nerds - more like video gaming journalists =P

Elite666

Perhaps that makes sense in a game that has a female main character or something of the like but there are many games that have booth babes and have no reason to. A good example would be when there's something like Rome: Total War being shown and it's being shown by scantily clad women who know nothing about the game.

It's not that I'm totally against using sex to sell things, it's a powerful marketing tool, but it makes sense to use it subtley and intelligently rather than just flaunting it at a yearly trade show. I know that I certainly wouldn't have had Nintendo market the DS any other way than their initial innuendo filled teasers and I certainly didn't scoff at the women they had dressed in tight black "touching is good" T-shirts at the few play testing events they held in my area. There is a difference though, the people who were working at these events got the jobs because they were gamers and actually knew what they were talking about, there were also guys working at these things too. Sex was subtley used to sell things, it wasn't blatant and it wasn't cheap. That sort of marketing makes sense.

On the actual topic, this should be a pretty awesome E3 overall. Might be rather hard to top last years though.

Kinda pissed on the new game titles: Devil May Cry 4, Quake 4, DOA 4 - damn, when are they gonna stop cloning games?! next generation consoles, and its still the same crap only with better graphics

I don't know. '4' seems to be a rather good number I think when it comes to overhauls... take Resident Evil 4 for example XD Perhaps Capcom might attempt to shift the Devil May Cry series a bit maybe? A new direction?

Edit:
http://cube.ign.com/articles/615/615019p1.html <- very interesting... remember that the specification are usually lower than originally stated. The ps3 will be 35 times more powerfull than the ps2, but remember that the ps2 is the weakest console on the market. It may be that XBox is twice as strong as ps2 - so the new ps3 is 35 times stronger than ps2 and maybe 17 times stronger than XBox - see, the consoles are about the same, no? In this I think Nintendo is understating the capability of Nintendo... anyways, 17? 35? the new games sure dont look 35 times better. Nintendo's statement seems more to the truth

Revolution will offer broadband access to a free Internet-based player matching service, similar to Xbox Live, that also will have downloadable versions of nearly every Nintendo game — from arcade classic Donkey Kong through current titles such as Mario Sunshine.Fsck yeah!

I have to ask who agrees the the new PS3 is a way better looking console than the XBOX 360 will ever be.One main reason why the XBOX didn't sell in Japan was because of its look.It was not a very pretty console although it may have had better graphics but not quite as many games that sony could pop out in a month.

I personaly anticipating the release of KH2 on December first and the release of the PS3 in the spring of next year. I also belive Microsoft is rushing the new XBOX and the system isn't even using HD-DVD technology.SONY *god love them*are using a pretty cool new technology Cell system and the Blu-Ray technology which I can't wait to use.

Well I can't wait for a lot of new things to come out ,but I mst be off G4 is showing E3'05 so see ya later.

Incorrect about the XBOX360 having better graphics. the PS3 has a better graphics card, better memory, more memory, cooler desing, all the specs of the PS3 beat out the XBOX360

Guys you know what's troubling me? Revolution doesn't seem to be that revolutionary... So was all that hype just talk, or is Nintendo just keeping quiet?

"We will show the world what a next-gen system can be. Revolution marries the strongest heritage of innovation to the future of gaming," said Nintendo President Satoru Iwata. "With backward compatibility and the 'virtual console' concept, the stylish, compact body provides maximum gaming power. It will not only take home entertainment into another dimension by expanding the definition of video games, but it also will give you access to the great history of gaming."

What does he mean by this? could this be the revolutionary feature?

Who knows?I was never all that hyped up about nintendo any way. i like the older consoles from nintendo*i love my super nintendo to pices*But i also wast to impressed by the press confrence either al though the new zelda game coming out dose look pretty cool.

Elite666
May 18th, 2005, 09:39 pm
Virtual console just refers to it's ability to play games from multiple consoles. It's the same as an emulator on a computer is a virtual console.

Also, there's only so much revolution that can come from the brain of a machine. I think it makes sense to wait until the interface is shown to bother judging how much it may change the face of gaming.

I don't give a damn about the technical features and the looks of a console. The important things are the games that are going to be released and there isn't much stuff yet announced. But what really pisses me off is that Square Enix does only make new games for the NextGeneration-consoles. Now we have waited for so long for a new FF for a Nintendo console, then it appears to be a forced attempt to try something new and then they're only developing for NextGeneration consoles. And that new Game Boy Micro...we have enough Game Boys  !!

Elite666
May 19th, 2005, 06:12 pm
I'd suggest waiting until seeing both the Revolution and the New FF:CC before calling it a forced attempt to try something new. The first FF:CC, while not perfect, was quite a lot of fun if you had three or four people playing. Considering it will be painless to have a large group in the new FF:CC due to the lack of stupid connectivity requirements and the fact it's Wi-Fi enabled so people will always be there to play with.

As for the Gameboy Micro, I'm not sure I'll get one but it's brilliant. It's the best way Nintendo could combat PSP on its own terms right now. Keep in mind that the Gameboy micro isn't for gamers, it's meant to infiltrate the lifestyle crowd, those people that bought an iPod and a PSP because it looked cool. Due to the smaller screen size I wouldn't be surprised if the GBM debuted at the price the old style GBA is selling for right now. Considering it looks damn sweet, will likely have a great mass market price, has a huge library of games already and to top it all of has customization option then it's a truly awesome way to try and take that market away from the PSP before it makes a real splash. The only thing that would be better is if Nintendo released the Play-yan in North America at the same time, perhaps even in a package with the GBM.

XBox 360: I've never been a fan of XBox, and I doubt i'll start now. Sure, better capabilities and graphics, but I seriously doubt that i'll be seeing games that are 17 times better than the current tiltles. Also, I don't like Microsofts policy about benching any games that don't support XBox Live. And really, internet is a bit expensive here for me...
PS3: I have to agree - the design sucks (of course must keep in mind its not final). Same as the XBox - i doubt i'll be seeing games that will look 35 times better. Also, $465? Add to that the higher costs of development and you get $60 games. A bit expensive. However, it'll still probably get most of the rpg, no matter how many times squareenix swears that it supports all three consoles...
Revolution: ahh... well, keep in mind that Ive always been a fan. Im expecting it to be cheaper, and I hope if its sufficiently easier to program for it some producers (especially 3rd party) may switch from PS to Nintendo; however, this is just a hope. Access to Nintendo's 20 year library is awesome (more so if it would be free), but they better have something more 'revolutionary'. I mean, how 'revolutionary' can they make a 'user interface'? I was expecting something along the lines of:
There's also a port that beams 3D images directly onto the viewer's retinas. Revolution!

Just kidding, but that would be cool.
------IGN
Anyway, it'll probably be less expensive than any of the other next gens, and it has Zelda - if I decide to get a console, most likely it would be it
GameBoy Micro: How many of you were expecting that? Still, a they'll need more than a sleeker design to get my attention. Unless it can play mp3, there's really not much reason to get one. An 'old' GBA SP will serve you just as good; and anyways, how many more games will be released for it with the psp and ds around? not much - give it maybe 1 more year before producers will stop supporting it
PSP: Nothing new, except the expected news that the best games for it won't be localised in NA and Europe. Great...

True, but it was very much a multiplayer game. The fault wasn't in realizing the concept of the game as mainly multiplayer, it was in making the requirements for those multiple players too high. It was actually quite a good game and I have trouble seeing it as forced. Perhaps it shouldn't have the Final Fantasy name attached to it but Square had already obviously decided that Final Fantasy was more a catch-all than a specific franchise anyway.
