with chamber do you mean "church" ? , if it's , try with Bach , he is well know for his religious's music , however, maybe the "Toccata e Fuga in Dm" by Bach (midi: http://mfiles.co.uk/downloads/toccata-and-fugue-dm.mid , pdf: http://mfiles.co.uk/scores/Toccata-and-Fugue-Dm.pdf )(one of the most famous pieces ever  ) can be considered as a chamber music?
(ps: chating is sing ? , maybe the "Ave Maria" by Schubert (or is it Schuman?, or Bach again ? , however, the "Toccata e Fuga in Dm" is more darkness that this last one, that's for sure... ))

I think you mean chanting like Gregorian or something like that. I don't really know a chamber music piece with chants, but Bach isn't a wrong hint. But he didn't wrote that much chamber music, mostly solos and string orchestra/choir pieces. There's a chanted part in George Crumb's "Music For A Summer Evening" (great piece), but it is a "composed" and not an actual chant.

@JcKaji2: There's an 'Ave Maria' by Schubert or Schumann (not 100% sure which one, because I don't like German romanticism, but definately not Schuman, that's a different guy), and there's an 'Ave Maria' on the C-Major prelude by Bach. Some frenchman (I think Auber, but I'm not 100% sure) thought there was no melody in the prelude, and so composed an extremely cheesy melody for it: an Ave Maria was born.

P.S: I just finished a piece based on a chorale ("O Heiland, reiß die Himmel auf"), but it's for strings with 4 wind instruments and again no chamber music.

I was also going to say Gergorian... however, there's some music by (don't kill me) Elliot Del Borgo that has some of the feel you're looking for and is really easy. I don't think it's meant for chamber; in fact... it's meant for middle-average high school string orchestra. :death: (I swore never to bring up his name again... ah well)

At any rate, it has a rather ancient, interesting feel to it. There isn't a part actually written for the chanting, but I'm sure you could add your own...

That would be Schubert who wrote one version of Ave Maria, not Schumann (I don't think Schuman exists o.0). And I believe it was Gounod, not Auber, who added that melody to one of Bach's preludes =P Although I don't think the melody is cheesy at all, but that's my opinion . . and I think there's a third famous Ave Maria, but I don't remember it, meh . .

Gregorian chants eh? I have a cd at home . . don't really listen to it :heh:

well, it looks like that Liszt did a transcription for piano of "Ave Maria" too  ( http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/compositions_b/lzharpo2.pdf ), maybe is it the third that you're speaking about?

@Al: Yeah, it's Gounod. I just don't like Romantic music (the style), so I always forget who wrote that piece. The story behind it is true, though. There is a Schuman, he's an american composer. I only know the 'Circus Overture' because we played it in our wind band. The piece isn't that great.
@JcKaji2: The 'Ave Maria' is a text, not a composition. There are many composers who wrote music on that text, but there's no 'one-and-only' composition.

Gregorian chants are the only music from this time that I can hear without falling asleep.
