Howl is really good looking but the main character sophie has bushy and too big eyebrows.

As if it being Miyazaki/Ghibli wasn't incentive enough for this film to make me crazy - Christian Bale is in it! >.<
Even if it's just his voice....he's still in it....

I'm dying to see this. But it's only playing in Toronto. -_-

I just finished the book last week and noticed there was a movie (wierd coincidence) but I don't think it's playing where I am...
Great book though, I hope the movie comes out on DVD.

it's a good movie, I thought it was one of Miyazaki's best. The drawings are really nice and of course, the music is great! it's got a really interesting plotline as well.. I want to read the book now, haha.

Maestrosetti

You should. I reccomend it. I'm not sure how close the book is to the movie though.

theres a book on it!? Is is a manga or a chapterbook?
i still thought the art could have been a little better
can they at least draw sophie a little prettier!?
she IS the main character.. but howl looks so much better than her. lol

Maestrosetti
July 13th, 2005, 08:51 pm
It's a chapter book, so there's no pictures of anyone. Although on the cover it shows the scarecrow and Sophie's back. Wow.

Eternal
July 13th, 2005, 08:56 pm
thats a horrible cover...
the scarecrow dosent even play a big part.
plus he gets regected by Sophie which is obvious by the title
HOWL's moving castle which mean HOWL the MAIN character cant get rejected... ya.

Maestrosetti
July 13th, 2005, 08:59 pm
Yes, I know. I don't think Sophie should have been old throughout pretty much the entire thing. I was interested mostly in Howl and Calcifer.

Eternal
July 13th, 2005, 09:18 pm
ya...
the witch of the waste man, u should see her in the movie
they really EMPHASISE her ugliness.

Maestrosetti
July 13th, 2005, 09:26 pm
Heh. Really? I think that the book says that she's pretty, and her fire demon is making her look young, despite her incredibly old age...? Something like that...

Eternal
July 13th, 2005, 09:42 pm
yep its very true
Howl tried to court her once but found out she was ugly so he ran away.

There's a sequal to Howl's Moving Castle (book) called Castle in the Air. I recommend it. Personally, I found Castle in the Air more interesting than Howl's Moving Castle. Great book.

Maestrosetti
July 13th, 2005, 11:56 pm
Oh! My goodness! A sequel! Really? Are you sure it's better than the first? Because I loved that one. I don't usually like sequels, though...

Sam-chan
July 14th, 2005, 12:30 am
Yup. The sequel's main character is different though. It's kind of using the details from Howl's Moving Castle to make a new book. I liked it better, but Howl's Moving Castle was very good too.

I love this movie! It is my favorite Miyazaki film. I read the book first and Miyazaki does deviate from the plot of the book quite a bit, But I think the changes are very nice and wonderfully woven in. Can't wait to buy it on DVD!:)

Yes, I want to cosplay Howl but I'm not boy-feminine enough... (then again, I also want to cosplay Miss Cloud :D)

I love the animation, I love the characters, and I loved the plot.

But, the character development was pretty shitty. Besides that, I'd still like it.

Wait, there's a sequel?! YAHOO! *dashes off to the library*

I read the book about a year ago then flipped when I found out miyazaki was making a movie out of it. I didn't really like alot of the deviation from the plot, but overall I liked it.

The parts of the plot that were taken out makes me think of the phrase "dumbed down." I assumed they were trying to simplify it to make it short enough, like with the Lord of the Rings. I bear no ill will towards Miyazaki though. I still love his work. :teeth:

On a side note, I personally like Naussica(sp?) best out of all his films.

aries_fire

Oh yes naussica is the 2nd best, princess monoke the best! ^^

GAH! I bloody loved Howl's! (And Howl) Cutie.
They were kinda vague in explaining the nature of Howl's blackbird deal, not that I minded. I guess it's better with that sorta story.

Howl's Moving Castle was really good ^-^'' i really loved it and how the plot of the story was well done. There were some parts that i didn't really like..but all movies have a godo and bad point ^^;; i really enjoyed it..and hearing it japanese with eng.subs was beter than hearing just plain english >_<;; original is always better ^.^

Actually, I prefer the English dub.

Emily Mortimer + Jean Simmons tagteam FTW!
