View Full Version : What are your musical aspirations?

This forum needs a thread where composers can post about their musical ambitions! Here it is. ;)
Well, what are your hopes for your music? Will it become your career? If so, what type of career? VG music? Anime composer? Film songwriter? Even if your dream might seem unattainable, don't think twice about posting it here. I'm sure that in hearing fellow composers' hopes, it will motivate others to give the music world their best shot. :)
Or not. Are you a composer just for the heck of it? Do you only write songs for your own gratification? Or as a favor to someone else?
---------------------------------
I hope one day to become an album artist. I would love to be able to record all of my pieces (and how many there are!) professionally on state-of-the-art synthesizer equipment. It would please me to no end to be able to go to a music store and see a CD of my own work for sale, even if it isn't on any "chart-topping" list. But before that, I might consider becoming a video-game musical composer. There's just something about a great video-game soundtrack that makes or breaks a game, and it would be awe-inspiring to hear one of my own pieces playing to some sort of tender RPG scene. B) If the video-game composer idea works out, perhaps then I would have the fuel needed to launch myself into a more conventional composer career as stated above.
Of course, I'd need to go through schooling, first. If everything goes my way, I will pursue a master's degree in Music Composition and Theory. :D

I'm really a writer. But sometimes I get bouts of "word-weariness"; then I turn to music. It's expression without words. I have no ambitions to publish music (although I would enjoy providing raw material for the talented composers/arrangers.
Anything I put up is compositional "freeware"; do with it as you please (but give me as much credit as I deserve ;) )

Doing it for the heck of it. If I somehow manage to get myself into a musical career (preferrably composing for films, video games, etc. - fat chance, bleh), it won't be full-time.
I'd really love to be a conductor though. XD

I do it 'cause if I don't the tunes bouncing around in my head drive me insane XD I mainly do them for the challenge - nothing will ever come of them but it is nice to share them!

Well, I have been given several awards in music (for piano performance, recognition as an all-state Chorus member, getting a superior at Solo/Ensemble Competition, first place at two universities in music theory.) So I plan to stick with this by becoming a Professor of Music and/or a video game composer (which I already technically am, just not a very well known one. :P ). Professor Morningstar just rolls off the tongue so well... :)

I compose mainly for myself and for my friends. I write down what I feel, and then when the song is complete, I play it over and over again to help me contemplate and reflect on stuff. Perhaps in the future, when I write enough good songs, it'd be nice if they were recorded professionally. Because it'd be nice to have my own cd, but I'd mainly have it to distribute to friends/family and such. I'm not as interested in selling it in stores, but hey if it comes to that, then sure, why not?

I had thought about doing it for my profession later in my life, but it seems as if my parents doesn't really want me to be a musician, so I decided to not think about it, but who knows, maybe I will someday...
And if some of my compositions get chosen to put in a film, that'll be cool, but I highly doubt that's ever gonna happen.

I have the same dreamy ambition like gnomish has said only I'm not really as serious as him about it I think. Composing is a good way of channeling my emotions into something when I particularly feel that, well, emotional. I played my first composition in a concert when I was 10 which I composed completely without anything other than everything popped into my head. It wasn't amazing but I thought of it as a sign that it was something I was meant to do. Sounds stupid but it gave me that edge as a musician at that young an age. I had a fortune cookie say that I would become famous and one of those fortune teller machines said it too, but I doubt it really. I wouldn't really like to be either. At the moment, I do not have the facilities to put my best music into CD's or even midi's. It'll be great to write music that sells loads though I've always felt people with this state of mind are foolish and need to get a reality check (I'm talking mainly about popstar wannabes) which is why I've never taken this ambition to heart.

In the future, I hope to compose music for korean dramas as a career.. and a second job as either a music or school teacher 'cuz I really enjoy teaching and working with kids.. ^^
Before, I have never thought of pursuing a career as a composer.. I would say what first got me interested in becoming a composer was..(um this might sound kinda stupid/silly but..) it was after watching a korean drama called Glass Slippers. I reallly love the OST 'cuz the music is simply beautiful and sad..~ and I hope that I can also compose such music some day. ^^;
Oh. Another OST I really reallyy love is from the drama called Sad Sonata (aka Sad Love Story)~

I really don't know what to do in music. I have talent in writing, drawing, and music, so I can't be too sure.
I'm still thirteen! :heh:

I compose for the heck of it.. like mazda said, if I don't, I'll go crazy with so many tunes occasionly popping up in my mind.
@ Sukarufu: That's a stupid reason why you should stop thinking about a musical career.
@ an-kun: I agree with you on the wannabe pop-star thing.. it's just so uncool =P
@ Marlon: Remove your avatar, then re-upload it.

I began to write music as a general past-time, but as I began to explore and discover new kinds of music, I began to become very interested in the whole spectrum. Now, I compose music as a way to react with my emotions and express myself in ways that I can't normally.

Hmmm... I'm not a very good composer; I compose the same way I write poetry... out of pure emotion, without much skill but with plenty of passion. :heh:
I did want to be a composer for my quartet, Quixotic; we had planned to become big, popular musicians with our own cool songs, yada yada. But my resignation is currently pending (read: I haven't gotten around to telling my friends that they're all fired becase I'm disbanding my own quartet) because we hang out too much instead of making music.

You're a violinist, right? It probably wouldn't be the same with another person playing your compositions, but if you send me sheet music for either violin or fairly easy piano, I'll record you a CD. I could find really good people that play guitar, band istruments or whatever too if you needed, although not until school starts again.
Like I said, I probably wouldn't want someone else playing my stuff and recording it, but if you like I'll do it. Or if you have a music file saved on your computer, and could send it to me, I could record it onto CD; I do have the facilities to burn tapes and music files to CD.
...Only I'd need a mailing address to send a CD to, huh...
Edit: Um... I'm not sure this is allowed, but I wanted to show An-kun how well/badly I play the violin, and you are allowed to attatch files in this forum... so I'm going to attatch a very short excerpt from Konzert in G major by Viotti. The last four measures are from a different part of the piece, hence the odd rest.
