Hello, everyone. :) I took up the hobby of composing music around February of 2004, and I've been hooked ever since! Starting around June of 2004, I composed one piece of music every day, and that tradition still continues. I've missed maybe 3 days the entire time, and that was only out of necessity (vacation). If I cannot get to sleep at night, I've been known to have my nose in a music theory book or two. :heh:

My main musical inspirations are J.S. Bach, Eithne Ni Bhraonain (Enya), Yasunori Mitsuda, and Nobuo Uematsu. Of these, Enya has been my main influence, though.

My process of composing is clear: 1) construct a hummable, memorable melody, 2) use strong supporting instruments and well-spaced chord progressions ("block harmony", as I call it), and 3) make each 8-measure phrase distinct from the other parts of a song. In addition, I often use Enya's technique of alternative minor/major passages in between the exposition of the melodic themes. If you don't know what I mean, just have a listen to a few of my pieces and try to figure it out. :)

:) Without further ado, here is a comprehensive list of some of my named, more bearable songs:

My thematic songs:

Good work! I listened to all the songs that are posted. The really do have the "Enya-style" in those compositions. How long did it take you to compose those? I like "Heart of the Forest" for some reason though.

Wow there alot :heh: . I got to listen to a few of your songs. Great job they are all well composed(well..the ones i got to hear). The melodies will probably stay in my head they are easily memorized. Hopefully i'll get through them all Some I got to hear before the forums conversion.

Thanks much for listening to my old compositions, friends. :) I'll be sure to post a few new ones some time soon, but I appreciate that you took the time to go back and hear the older ones, as well.

Gedtag, it took me about a year and a half to get my skill in composing to where it is today, and each song in particular usually takes me between 90 minutes to 3 hours, sometimes more or less on extreme occasions. :)

That's some very nice compositions there Gnomish! A very large collection too. I'm impressed by your work but think that at times you should try to make your pieces slightly more dramatic. Keep it up though!

This song is entitled "Nightfall" and is meant to depict the day's succumbing to dusk. As the the sun musters its last ounce of light to throw a few final fingers of light across the darkening sky, night finally sets in for the defeat with its endless entourage of blackness and an airborne army of white owls aloft overhead. The trees shudder uncontrollably under the wind that has become night's friend, and the only comfort they have is knowing that daylight will soon come again and complete the terrible -- yet embracing -- clash of day and night.

Very nice. It gives me a kinda of water feeling in the beginning I think its the sound font. At 00:51 was a good addition it kept me interested and kept the song from getting boring and at 1:56 was a good change also.
8.5\10 im not real good at ratings :heh: ... nice job ;)

Beautiful, as always. ^_^

Pretty pessimistic interpretation of nightfall, which is my favorite time of the day. :bleh: But, I loved the ambience. Violin was beautiful at the end, the choir in the middle was cool, and the whole thing was just cool.

Good job. ^_^

Just listened to everything in Update #4.

It was all gorgeous, especially "Under the Starlit Sky" and "A World Against One". I especially loved those two since you used a different instrumentation, which was a refreshing change from your usual vibraphone and e-piano (I think it's an e-piano). I mean, it's a beautiful combination and instrumentation, but variety is always good (but, then again, that's only speaking about the pieces that I've listened to).

Great job. ^_^
