I wouldn't necessarily want to be just one character -- I'd rather be able to have certain aspects of several characters.

Inuyasha: I like his courage, but I can do without his mad-at-the-World anger and his somewhat irrational stubbornness.

Miroku: I like his intellect and his ability to dispassionately analyze a situation without forgetting that there are consequences to one's actions, but I can do without the lechery.

Sesshomaru: I like his ability to retain a Zen-like calm in almost any situation, but I can do without the deliberate and unthinking (one could say almost joyful) cruelty that he tends to display.

Shippo: I like the childish "can-do" enthusiasm that compliments his beyond-his-years maturity, but I can do without the how-can-I-piss-off-Inuyasha-today teasing.

Yes, they were. I'll admit, cartoons that they used to play when I was like...five, were good. They no longer play those cartoons where I live. They've all been replaced with cartoon "comedies" that I find horrific, and allow me to thank my parents for getting rid of cable.

And I do realize that anime stands for animation. I just can't stand it when I here an anime dubbed in English, because the voice actors usually don't do as well as they could, or just do horribly, period.

People's standards tend to be higher then achivability. That, or people only let things slip into the 'good' category with a random or floppy standard, like Japanese vs American. Maybe a lot of American animations don't have a long, complex/stupid story, but there are plenty of animes that are just like Spongebob Square Pants or the Miss Adventures of Flapjack. Big eyes included.

But spongebob = epic win! I mean, HE'S A SPONGE...!

Gargoyles was terrible (and ridiculously ugly). Batman was good, but doesn't hold a candle to the better anime out there. Disney hasn't been good in twenty years. Saying "anime was based on Disney fifty years ago" doesn't say a whole lot. I'm sure Walt was inspired by other artists too - who cares? The only thing that matters is what's good *right now,* and American cartoons as a whole suck ass. Kind of like calling Final Fantasy a 'byproduct' of pong. Completely inane, and nowadays, totally misleading. As Mushy pointed out, many American studios are now looking back to Japan for inspiration. We have some kind of crazy time-folding by-production loop-of-infinity going on! The universe is going to lock up! Ctrl+Alt+Delete!

Being on topic, I'd want to be a totoro. Then I could fly around and make trees grow all day. It'd be sweet.
