Well, first of all I'm self taught and I don't play on a weekly basis. I bought my keyboard (YAMAHA, the purple one with 2 big speakers and bass). I memorized and can play all my songs, most of them including: Sadness and Sorrow, Sakura's Theme, Hokage's Funeral, Tori no Uta (first page and a half of it, from the anime AIR), and Song from a Secret Garden hehehe. I like mostly smooth, sad songs like the ones above. ^^; Any suggestions what I should play next? A lot of people play To Zanarkand but I don't want to =(.

How about trying "Hakkai no Theme" from the anime Gensomaden Saiyuki? It's a pretty simple sad/pretty song~ ^^

You can find the sheet music if you go to AnimeScores (http://www.animescores.com/SheetMusic/index.htm). It should be under just "Saiyuki". :)

And I also recommend "Alone" under the same anime, but this one might be a bit more challenging. ^^;

It could be interesting for you to move in the direction of classical music, a lot of the more basic compositions are very fun and educational to learn.

i agree with dark clone
when you are self-taught usually u pick ones that u like. but once in a while it's good to play some classical pieces.

I don't know those songs very well but are they versed in pedal ?

Maybe you should try something simple yet fun like Fur Elise ?

Another good anime piano song to play is Yakusoku from Love Hina (love to play it)

I recommend starting off playing it WITH the pedal simply because it will sound better as you aren't as sure of yourself and you will probably be searching for notes or chord formations so the pedal keeps a sound going, just be careful not to play the left hand anything higher than p the whole time because you'll get mass distortion unless you pedal on a SwMw basis. (what I do).

Shit

This is all assuming you have a foot pedal add on to your yamaha keyboard

Give this one a go, here's the direct link:

http://www.sheetmusicarchive.net/dlpage_new.cfm?composition_id=81

It's a very well known piece because it's so simple to play yet very lovely to the ears.

Ahha, good for you :heh:

I agree with DarkClone about the classical music, there are alot of etudes that are very educational yet fun to play for your ability.

try to play moonlight sonata. its fun, hard, but is very acheivable.

I wouldn't actually recommend you moving into Moonlight Sonata so soon, that's more a piece that you want to play absoloutely perfectly and work so that the whole piece sounds brilliant. I recommend, if you want to play a Beethoven piece that is, one of his minuets. Search the net and find one that you would like to learn, or look for another composer. That's all I can recommend.

i was thinking for the right hand. it gives you an idea of arpegios and the like. i never learnt much of it both hands, and i just use bits of it as a warmup. it gets my fingers movig, and gets me thinking for some reason. forused as well. It may be fairly advanced for what is being asked for here, but i think that the beggining could work to improve on playing.

It would start a new level of playing for charchar123, but I think he (correct?) would benefit slightly more by starting with something easier, outlining the basics of theory. Moonlight Sonata, although easy to play, is essential to get perfect. Also, if it is arpeggios he wants, I could recommend many studies.

I'd recomend Beethoven's Minuet in G, that's a really fun piece to play. Or if you want a much more easier task, it's better to start off with sonatinas first before jumping into sonatas. Clementi has some good fun and easy pieces that are melodic and I would say not boring to learn. And if you want a piece in the modern expressionistic era, a piece by Eric Satie called Trios Gymnopedie would be great for begginers, it's a very good piece that anyone I think could relate to. And lastly, if you really want to start with the easier classical pieces, Mozart's famous minuet would be great for you...

I think you can start with Fur Elise, and skip the "happy part" (it's the only hard part, I think) until you master the rest of it. :)

Uhmmm...haha. Guys I have a cute problem. LoL. uhmm. I'm not very good [big understatement] at reading notes you see. But I could play the piano really well. So, can you recommend me any site that just gives the keys to be played instead of sheet music :( it would really be a big help. Thank you! I'm such an idiot * whacks her brains off*

Download Guitar Pro 4.0, and it tells you what keys to play with a little virtual keyboard. :heh:

Try the sheet music posted in the old forum "Sheet Music Translation" under Sheet Music Requests. you can't even read it.
