I just made this song in the style of King Henry VIII (bet you didn't know that England's king back in the 1400s was a composer!) and I like it! :D It's for recorder quartet (as it often was during the medieval times). Anyone able to help me think of a name for it? :) Thanks in advance!

Gospel of the Elves.

Actually, that's quite the creative name! But I was hoping for something a bit more medieval inspired, or perhaps a bit more broad. Elves are so specific: I'm hoping to have some of my songs submitted to RPG makers some day, and if the game doesn't have elves... it won't really make sense. :) But it is a good idea... Maybe I'll go with it.

I have to say that I like this song. It sure has a medieval spirit! The recorders flow well throughout the whole song. I have nothing more to say, really. You want a rating? :P

8/10 (very good)

!!!!!!!!!! 8/10 from Noir!!!! Wowsers! :D I tried my best to make it medieval-ish. :D I think King Henry VIII would be proud. :P Do you have an idea for a name of it?

I don't like naming others' work, but if I come up with something, I will let you kow ;)

Have you heard King Henry VIII's works?

ok, this may seem gay, but what came to my mind when I heard this was something like "King's Court"

Maybe that'll do. :) Good idea, actually. And, no, in no way does that sound homosexual. :P (I'm a literal person.)

Yeah, good interpretation. :) How about... "A Royal Dirge"? A Dirge is, according to dictionary.com, a "slow, mournful musical composition".

Hrm. :P I dunno. Majestic Lacrimos(o?) does sound good, is it latin or something? :P I looked up Lacrimosa and only LacrimosO came up. :) It defined Lacrimoso as "pathetic or mournful in movement" ... Does make sense. :D

chibi-ryu_chan

lol, the mournful part, yes it does. It is definently sad ^.^

Yes, it's latin, but I don't know much latin, haha . . .

Anyways, I have just listened to it. Sorry, but it doesn't sound as sad as I had thought. It's too fast for a lacrimosa or a lament. But it still sounds royal and majestic though.

i'll admit it is a bit too fast for a lament, but..hmm...what else could it be called

How about "Pacing the Corridors of the Castle"? Or something of the like?

hmm...well, it is YOUR song, so how do you like it. It sounds mysterious :sherlock:

Naming Songs = Hard! :P

I guess I might name it "Pacing Through the Castle" or something. When I hear it, I can picture a castle in a time of unrest, with the king pacing about it, thinking of what to do to restore peace or get his princess back or whatever. :P

EDIT: What about the name "Disdained and Distressed"?

For your first song, you could use something like, "Chopin' Off my Wives' Heads."

But seriously, for the second, you could get real classy with it and say, "A Dirge For King or Chief." That's a line from a quazi-famous poem written about Mozart's Requiem:

A REQUIEM!–and for whom!
For beauty in its bloom?
For valour fall'n?–a broken rose or sword?
A dirge for king or chief,
With pomp of stately grief,
Banner, and torch, and waving plume deplor'd?

Not so, it is not so!
The warning voice I know,
From other worlds a strange mysterious tone;
A solemn funeral air
It call'd me to prepare,
And my heart answer'd secretly–my own!

EDIT: Oh yeah. I think your first song is the best thing I've heard from you. I'm duely impressed. You really emulated the Middle Age style very well.

Wow! Alfonso is very inspiring with his zealous replies! :P Although my friend and I have already named the song just last night (we decided to name it "The Last Leaf of Autumn"), I'll be sure to keep in mind your ideas about parts of a requiem/poem thingy from famous people, especially those of Mozart. :) And thanks for complimenting my first song I posted- it is indeed one of my favorites. Sometimes I feel like I'm not composing anything worth the time, lately... I've gotten into composing medieval-style recorder quartets, but I hope to make RPG music some day (with a little luck and whenever I finish Treatise on Harmony, The Study of Counterpoint, and The STudy of Fugue, I'll be better @ composing :P), but how would these songs be put into VG's? I could make piano transcriptions - some of them have such simple themes but rich harmonies all over the place. :) They could be made into VG music, I guess I just need to change the instrumentation... unless some day I could find a Medieval-ish game... :P I dunno. Anyway, would you tell me if this song matches its name?

whenever I finish Treatise on Harmony, The Study of Counterpoint, and The STudy of Fugue

Maybe you should try reading something less technical. Like Arnold Schoenberg's book on Composition. I can't remember the title, but it doesn't deal with technical harmony at all. It's all about the overall form of a piece.

Yes, the name matches well.

Wow! Alfonso is very inspiring with his zealous replies!

The Chopping off heads was a joke. Get it? Henry VIII

hmmmm maybe it's because i play WAAAAAYYYY too much video games (yes even i can tell :sweatdrop: ) this song makes me think of my dragon warrior games (ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh X_X)

This song sounds..sad, slow, and to me...royal or "heroic"?

It's like remebering something a distant past or somthing

eheheh :heh: i can't descibe it..

"Friend too True"?

I seem to feel a deep sorrow in the song, somthing like a betrayl. Maybe a romantic feel, thus Friend Too True came to mind.
