Well I decided to start a new thread cause the conversion to v bulletin and since all my attachments were all gone. heh doesnt matter they werent that good anyway. Which is why I started new.
About me hmm...im 16 and Ive been composing for a good while now and hopefully showing signs of improvement. My musical interests are kinda hard to pin point cause there alot. but I do enjoy the artist "bond" you prolly never heard of them but none the less one of my favorates. Of coarse a big inspiration is video game music(Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Kingdom hearts, and alot more but the list would never end) :heh: . Oh ya and im the administrator as it says under my user name... not really
Okay this song took a while but I finally got it down. :heh:
As always I would appreciate any comments or ratings good or bad. :D

I really enjoyed the piece. A nice piece with very good dynamics and a good dramatic flow. Am a bit down, and your piece cheered me up.

Oh, I've told you my thoughts on this piece! I think it should definitely win the contest! Only one problem, the sheet music wasn't playable. It's too bad, too. Just at the end you have some chords that stretch like an interval of like 12. I LOVE listening to it, though!

Pretty nice piece, especially when you throw in those unexpected harmonic changes (though even more would've been nice :)). It feels pretty tight and mechanical, though, so maybe you should play with the dynamics and tempo some to get more of a "humanized" feel to it.

I loved the dissonance in the beginning. I also like the fact that you built up so much for the best part. (from 2:03 to the end) The title fits the song perfectly well, too. I don't know if you like people rating your pieces but I give you 9/10... give or take 0.2.

I loved everything but the ending. I like how you used the constent cello. It seems as though you got tired at the end. I should know... I do that all the time. Only thing I would change in this song is the ending... but it seems like you already know that. You could just loop it from the second measure.

I wonder - do you mean Aerial by "Arial", or is it simply a name for something. If it's the former, then I gotta say the piece feels like a bit heavy on it's feet. First thing is probably the string chords, which could probably use an accent on the down beats (and consequently, all the eighth notes should be marked in a similar fashion). You should change the drumkit to the orchestral one, since the standard snares don't work at all in this type of piece. The transition into the section starting at ms. 34 is kinda abrupt, as is the sudden ending that follows. You should probably develop that section some more before ending it, or preferrably just making it loop to the beginning. Some general tips to make it more "floaty" would be to speed up the tempo about 50%, and add some occasional 16th notes for the chords as well, so that you aren't playing straight eighths all the time. More woodwind flourishes would probably work too - ease up on the bass a bit though. Just make everything a bit more unpredictable rhythm-wise, I guess. It's a good start, though. The harmony is pretty fitting, and the melody works too, though you should bring it out some more. Keep at it.

Very good. Loved the beginning and everything else but, as I'm sure you know by now, the ending was...okay. I kinda left me in a "Huh?" state of mind. For the sake of there even being an ending, it was fine, but I know you can do better than that =D

Yes, obvious from the first few notes.
For one, and slow, and high toned, right rand.

Very anime dramatic like.

I just listened to "Piano" and I have to say, I'm impressed! I like the progression and the part around 1:20ish. Not the most incredible piece, but it had some nice moments and such. :)
There was just a little too much reverb/pedal in there though. :/ Also, the ending was too abrupt...

I missed this composer! What nice music!
The Unseen
Wow! I love the flute in this piece! However, I feel like if you wanted to really make this piece shine, you could lengthen it by adding an inter-section somewhere in the middle with a new melody, as the flute melody does get a little repetative.
Last Chance
This one sounded kind of VG battlish. I didn't love it, but that's because I'm not a battle music fan. It was effective for that.
Piano
I agree with Blazing Dragon on this one, and I also must say that I think the rubato was a little strange in some places. WAY too little pedaling. (Which is to say that the virtual pianist needs to lift the pedal more often.
One_Winged
May 29th, 2006, 09:03 pm
the unseen is very rpg-ish and loops nicely this could be in some big production like the ff series.
lift that pedal in "piano" and it will be great! also if you loop this song the abrupt ending kind of works...
last chanse wasnt great but it was nice.
I pictured a burning town and medieval soldiers...
love your stuff man!

I found my file that had more of the parts in the song "piano" so......
Once I have time I will fix it up.
I feel the song sorta went out of whack. :heh:
-There is also a weird measure where it goes slow, I dont know why.

The first one sounded pretty much like most game themes would, although I don't think that most game themes are as exciting as they could be if they had a more memorable melody. (*hint, hint*)
The second did sound very much like bgm, even a bit Nobuo Uematsu-ish. Good job. I could imagine the name fitting very well with the music. The harmony wasn't as boring as I was expecting for this type of song.

Yes its a bit too repetative...thats about all that I got against it. But I guess if people are playing something while they hear this it won't be too bad cause the song doesn't take attention away from w/e they might be doing

Wow Klonoa! This is a very beautiful ambinece piece you've got there. I love that ostinato harp loop in the background, as it fits to very well. I like the melodies, and the flow of the strings with the counterpoint of the woods.
Love it, not much to say but it's mos def' a keeper! ^_^

i enjoyed this piece but the harp or whatever was playing in the background got very repetitive, but not so much that i didnt like the piece, but it could be changed, or variated anyway

@tiamat- yeah i always thought the harp was a bit repetitive at times, but i thought it went well. I think i couldmake it more variated though.
this is a slightly updated version that I had lost on my computer.
not much to say about it. :heh:
Sir_Dotdotdot
June 9th, 2007, 02:29 am
The melodic ideas and motifs are very well done, so are the chords, but the only that held this piece back from being excellent is the orchestration. The harp ostinato was rather too loud (which the harp isn't capable of doing) and you're treating it more like a percussion instrument than a harp. The wind chimes use was rather off (just one bar before the flute entrance). The strings background sound too close together, so a solution to that would be to spread the chord. Your voicing for instruments are sometimes way too clustered or even messy at times. This piece could also use some more variation in atmosphere; sure it's nice to have a relaxed and lush feel, but variate it! By variating, it doesn't necessarily mean that you have to have a fast part, you can vary the feel of the piece subtly by taking out certain instruments and have others play a certain theme (which is also a vital part of keeping the orchestration fresh).
Noir7
June 9th, 2007, 03:19 pm
Sounds like a typical RPG-tune, great work! The harp isn't that bothersome I think, it gives the piece its distinctive character. Although Sir_Dotdotdot's comments are probably right according the orchestration, I hardly think songs of this type is in dire need of changes in that area. If it were to be orchestrated in a true fashion, it would lose its style. I would even say you could add in some subtle electronica in this, rather than going the other direction!
Think FF9, that's what I did when I listened to this piece :)
Klonoa
June 17th, 2007, 12:02 pm
yeah I see how it does sound messy at times, i thought that aswell when making it. There was also a marimba playing in harmony with the harp, i dont know if you heard it or not, maybe thats why it was a bit loud.??
Like noir7 said I was kinda going for that style, but I would like too variate it more.
Im a big fan of electronica. That would be a nice addition to see how it would sound but i really wouldnt know where to start with that. :heh:
Thanks guys.
Ok this one is i guess like a rough draft ive been working on. There are still changes and additions I want to make......and for some reason i couldnt remember if the title came from like pocahontas or something  ... well anyways enjoy if you can ^_^

OMG that reminded me of Secret of Mana! I LOVE (!!!) that game! Very well done. I love your aeolian modal tonality and your use of woodwinds to get that feeling of the freedom of the wind. In fact, I would tone down the volume of the strings a bit to emphasize that effect, and maybe even add some more reverb so it feels more open. It ended really suddenly, though, so maybe fade it out a bit.
Klonoa
June 17th, 2007, 07:26 pm
thanks :)
I forgot to say it doesnt have an ending yet and to minus those last notes played. :heh:
I usually dont like to put to much reverb but I could possibly indiviually add some more to some instruments to see how it sounds.
Whats an aeolian tone? I looked it up but I got a little confused  sry but i really dont know alot of musical terms. When im a making a song I really dont know many terms to explain what im doing Im just going by what sound I hear in my head... i cant explain it.
deathraider
June 17th, 2007, 07:36 pm
You just used Aeolian mode (scale) instead of the traditional Minor mode (harmonic minor scale, melodic minor scale) with the raised 7th. It doesn't matter that much, but the Aeolian is basically the Greek modal version of minor, and is the same as a natural minor scale, but in western music, the 7th tone is usually raised to create a "leading tone" that supposedly pulls more towards the tonic. Your song didn't have this raised leading tone, and so it tended to sound much more modal (and for other reasons, too, which I'm not sure how to describe).
SilverHawk
June 25th, 2007, 03:58 am
That really was very RPG-esque - I enjoyed it very much. About an ending, I would say that you don't need one - maybe it's the RPG feel, but to me it sounds like it should just fade out. The strings and pan flute (?) really did capture that wind feel - great work!
