The only ones I like even a little are Diary.mid and Ojinko. I guess maybe I'm just a tough critic, but the songs just seem way too random, like you were just playing random things with a beat.

This is kinda of a funny dilemma, I guess. You think all my pieces are random, while I think most of your pieces random too. Whose right in say so, though? :P

Don't ask me! I gave you my opinion, though I tryed to be a bit nicer about it than you!

I wonder if that was sarcastic... <_<

Wow, a comedian, and a composer! The comments that I SHOULD have put with that first post were that I really like you Asian-esque mood in Ojinko. I just liked diary because I felt like it actually had some kind of a melody. I realize that songs aren't all melody, and I realize that some of the songs I posted aren't really that melodic, but I found most of your songs lacking in flow and melody, and they just seemed so random! My most random song was one of my very first compositions anyway. I didn't really know better. I'm sorry if you thought I was rude in my first post. I just don't think you should be so rude and spend an hour finding faults in my music. I too, am done with THIS thread.

I lied, I'm not done. I'm going to comment on your CMA entry. It was really good. It reminded me of big city during the night, like a theme in an anime. I really liked it. Only one thing bothered me, and that's the instrument at the beginning doing percussion. It sorta started to give me a headache. Once the song got going, though, it blended in much better.

Well, I'm glad you liked it (and expressed your thoughts in more detail). About the bongos, which I think you were referring to - it might be because I didn't really vary the velocity (the "loudness") of the notes a lot, so it sounded slightly droning for abit. I would've also added some snares/toms/hats if I had a good jazz/brush-drumkit available, but unfortunately I didn't. So I mainly relied on that and some other percussion hits (as I've said in the CMA thread, this piece was mostly done as a result of testing out some samples I've never used before).

Nightwish-Very nice sound quality. I think it would fit good in a game. It kinda reminded me of Sega's Sonic. It also gave me a jungley kind of feeling(the percussion). :)
Diary-A nice looping song, nice additions in the end with perc. Very pleasant. :)
Commute-Its okay, but not one that I particularly favor. :heh:

i always enjoy listening to your pieces spc1st, 'cause it may sound random to someone... but i know it is very hard to compose something like that. i mean... i dare people to compose something like it. i can't do it. hahaha. can you? ~~~ but hey... just because i dared and asked someone to compose something like it.. please dont compose it. i was just trying to make my point. heh heh.
rm - great intro. it was ridiculously harmonized. hahaha. that's the only way to describe it. 8/10
commute - which time signature did you use?
diary - great piece. loving the drum and pizz. string. and since it's a short piece.. that's a plus for me 9.5/10

This i what I think:
I think Diary was the nly good song that u have posted here on this thread. The other song sounded....hum....how do I put it...... Chaotic
The other song maybe are your style I donīt know, but even so, Diary was the only good.

Thanks for your comments, guys. Here's some general responses to address the pieces that you've heard.
Diary was a sorta "self-compromise" piece I've made - normally, I wouldn't write in such a style, but it's kinda a sketch for a game piece, so I've tried to make it as subdued as I can without getting awfully bored writing it ;). Commute was kinda the same case, though the 7/4 sig. might make it sound a bit more jumpy than I probably should've made it (this one was kinda inspired by sim city-ish music, thus the title) - I think if I extended it some more, it would sound a bit more "listenable", the listeners having better adapted towards the oddities of the piece.
Ojinko was for another game, though the melody didn't really pick up until half-way into the piece, thus making it sound a bit random too. And rm... well, admittedly, that was kinda intentionally random :P.
I'll try to post updated versions of the game pieces after I extend and work out the kinks in them.

Oh good! I look forward to more songs like your CMA entry. I'm really sorry how stupid I've been to you BTW. In case you don't read my new thread, I thought about the whole argument, and how stupid it really was of me to be so overly sensitive. I wish I DID have some good solid equipment to compose with. All I have is Cakewalk Music Creator, and it's getting outdated very fast.

First of I have to say that the sound quality is great. What was used to make these?
I liked the creativity in them. Its a nice different kind of music. The 2nd I didnt like. 1st and 3rd songs I liked and kinda reminded me of sonic. :)

 I actually liked this piece.
I think it's a bad instrumentation choice.
Oô;;;;; There is nothing wrong with the choice of instruments. The violin isn't supposed to stand out (right..?), and besides, this is very well orchestrated.

No, I like it, but what MP3?

I think the instrumentation choice was fine. I just think that it being in a MIDI was...bad. x_x At least with that screechy sounding MIDI violin. This is an awesome battle theme, though. ^_^ It definitely has a kind of Xenosaga-ish sound to it, which isn't a bad thing.

That's what I meant: the choice of that instrument even though it's a MIDI. I wouldn't mind maybe another stringed intsrument, for example, as long as it sounds good as a MIDI. ^_^

The only thing that I thought could have been better after listening to the MP3 (SOOOO much better instrumentation!) was the transition at about 0:30. It seemed much too out of place with what little transition there was.

I think the end went on past its welcome. That was VERY dissonant, and was kind of cool in a few ways because of that. I think the way that your brought the second instrument in was a little off...but that's of course just my opinion.

What's an ogg file?
Shizeet
November 3rd, 2005, 01:32 am
It's another type of audio compression, somewhat more efficient than mp3. If you have Winamp, it should already come with the decoder. Else, search for the OGG Vorbis codec and go from there.

Thanks for the comments, but could you be clearer about which piece you are referring to? I think by accordion, you were referring to the first piece, though it's actually a harmonica. And both the 1st and last piece have a guitar part...?

the guitar on re-relax and the accordion-like harmonica on re-relax

Sounds great so far! Good job! I can tell that it was from some Zelda game. I don't know exactly which one. I haven't played WindWaker (much, maybe even a few seconds or so) but I think it'd be from that game.. I'm not sure.

Hehe, I'm a bit surprised that you've managed to enjoy this piece, as it does use a lot of "modern" composition methods ;) (specificially, it's pretty hybridized piece, having orchestral, rock, electronica, and even big-band influences in there). The original is actually from the Link's Awakening on the Game Boy, though it was somewhat musically minimalistic piece; I had to stretch the source material in all kinds of ways to get it up to four minutes. But I guess I must be doing something right if you don't harbor any major complaints :P. Thanks for the comments, as always.

Hah! Everyone is always surprized when I like modern sounding compositions. Yes, I am deeply in love with the classical, romantic, and impressionest era's, this does not mean I don't like modern things, THAT SOUND GOOD !
