Battle Royale, a film by the veteran Japanese director Kinji Fukasaku, tells the story of a dystopic future in which each year, a randomly-selected 9th grade class is kidnapped and sent to a deserted island where they are equipped with weapons and are forced to kill each other until one survivor is left. The movie, which premiered in Japan on December 16, 2000 amidst much controversy, is based on a bestselling novel by Koushun Takami.

Anyone read the book or seen the movie? They're both great, in my opinon the book was better because the movie left out alot of parts that were in the book. So, anyway I was just wondering what the members thoughts were on this. ^_^

Yeah, both the manga and movie were based on the book. But I think the manga is much better than the movie, since it fleshes out things that even the book doesn't necessarily imply (and I think there was more cooperation between the manga creator and the original author). The movie was just too short to cover much more than the main characters and their present disposition - and misses out on some simply marveolous character development, in my opinion.

Hm....maybe I should pick up the manga, I fliped through a few pages but ended up not buying it. I will proably wait till I can go to this one store and get it for $4 instead of $10. lol I thought the book was better than the movie, but I also like the movie. I thought the music was cool too. ^_^

it's pretty simple ^_^ , like someone in battle royal say: kill or be killed, that's all :hunter: , however, i only read a few chapters of the first manga , and the 2° volume of the second manga "Blitz Royale" , i'm not interested in see the movie, i saw a few screenshoots and in my opinion it don't look so good :unsure: , maybe i would read the book but if i already know the story it have not more interesting :think: ; but speaking about the manga, in my opinion it's very good ^_^ , i like it a lot :D

what is the diference ? :think: , maybe if you don't know the person you would kill it would be more easy but however you see it it's still kill :rolleyes: ; this manga in my opinion shows the basic instinct of survive that have each form of live , and that is what those guys in battle royale are trying to do, survive ; anyway , i recommend you to read/see the book/manga/movie and try to imagine what you would do if you were in their positions ^_^ , or what your "friends" , teachers , brother would do ; would your friend really try to kill you if it's the only way to survive to him ? or the "friendship" is more stronger that the instinct of survive ? :think:

Lol, you are right, its just the though of my best friends killing me just so they could live is crazy, I would rather kill myself then let my friends have the thought that they killed a friend.

but by killing yourself you just make it easy for your enemy to win... because you become just one less person to deal with...

But I wouldnt want to be killed by the hands of friends, or even have my friends have the final thought and agony that they killed a friend.

But I wouldnt if we made a group, and ploted to kill off the enemy....wink wink....

well.. thats what they did do... 3 of them made a team and decided to work together to stay alive till the end
but.. the rules was... if more than 1 person was alive on the island, then they will be killed... so only 1 survivor was aloud

So youve seen the movie? Ive only read the outlines for the Manga O_o

i read the manga and, if i remember well, the rules are:
- if after 3 days there are more than 1 person alive all the explosive collars will.. well... it's obvious, isn't it ? :heh:
- each person will have a random weapons (knife, pistol, harisem :blink:, boomerang :hey: , etc...) and food for 3 days (however, after 3 days the 99% of them will die anyway :rolleyes: )
- one random area of the island will be a danger zone each 6 hours (danger zone means that if you're in that zone the collar will explode :shifty: ) however, they will say which zone 5 minutes before so the guys will have time to run...
- there are no other rules.. (i think so :heh: )
- oh yeah. the most important of all, kill or be killed XD

Lol. In the book, some of the weapons are like coat hangers, Plastic hammers, a rope...

They dont really say it like 'She Has A Coathanger For a Weapon...' But Its based on the characters personality, so its implied :)

well.. just to let you know... in the movie, you dont get to see all the killing
so you kinda never know there wwas that kid with the paper fan...

I'm on volume 14 of the manga and it's pretty good. I really wanna see the movie though, cause I hear it's awesome. Wasn't there a Battle Royal 2?

i don't think so :think: , the second manga it's about the marines that do a identical, but this time secret, proyect that the army is doing, and the class are chosen contemporary with those of the army, however, this guys are not trying to kill any terrorist (they kill themselfs as always in battle royale :lol: ) ; in my opinion the second maga is as good as the first, but the differences are big, like the style of the drawing and the story, so maybe not all will like it :unsure:

The style is childish IMO, but would it look fine with all that gore thats in #1? I mean Childish art + alot of gore = doesnt look right. Its like watching 8 year olds getting shot O_o

i love the battle royal movie, 'go, kiriyama, go' ^_^
but wasnt keen on the manga, read all of it off a friend and dissagreed with what was done and the depths they sank to to creat thier atmosphere. I intend to read the book it was based on aswell.

the second movie lost itself about halfway through, due probably to the death of the first director. Epiloge was too long for its own good. same goes for the action ending.

No, it's not banned, it's just not going to be released.

u dont need to worry though as it is region 0, aslong as you have a system that can play PAL. Get it from Play.com, nice and cheap.

I've had the DVD for slightly over 3 years now. I got the kool special edition metal box 2 disc set which also includes a free photo card ^^

I've also got the mangas but only vol 1-3 :D

The movie is brilliant, Kiriyama is by far the most interesting character, signing up for fun :D. He also had the most kills of 12.

Yeah Kiriyama and Kawada were ok I just didn't like how they didn't follow the book about them....
