This is a pretty good job :heh:
Heather, could use a little more strength in the melody maybe.
Kimura, was one of the better ones Nice job.
Loneliness, could also use a some improvement in the melody.
It might make it easier to post all midis(if you can) so more people could here them. :)

Yes, I agree. I can't listen to any besides kimura'_4.mid. The left hand is sorta repetitive, and you have awkward pauses in places. The melody is a bit shaky, too, but not horrible. Good Work

Thanks. ^_^ I'm a senior in band, that's why. :heh: (Call the Heather piece "Fanfare") But you guys did like the Kimura piece, right? (I've got two battle themes that you guys can listen to and I'm sorry that my Finale can't transcript my music into midis.) :heh: :heh: :hey:

I see potential in the Kimura theme, but the instruments have awkward pauses and some parts really don't make a sense. The potential I see in this one though is maybe a counterpoint melody? The way you introduced the oboe together with the other melodic instrument kind of killed that idea, but it could be done.

Like deathraider, I could only hear kimura 4. It was pretty good, but the melody didn't really catch my attention.

I'm sorry..:( I'm only trying and I really like Kimura.. I tried the best as I could on fast songs and they turn out like crap.. So, I guess slow songs are my thing. And I'm sorry that I only have the demo verison of Finale 2005. I know you two are being honest and I thank you for that. ^_^ :) :kfloat: :dots: Can you give me some tips on how to better myself the next time that I make a melody like that? I compete myself with other composers when I really failed at being better than them..

They seem to be the same piece, though one has two trumpets and clarinet instead of three flutes playing the parts. You've sorta got the battle theme rhythm down (ala FF7), but there lacks a distinctive theme to lead the piece through development. Actually, it ends rather quickly and abruptly...

I liked how "Heather's Theme" started, but the piano accompaniment drops off rather quickly, and the rest of instruments doesn't seem to make up with ostinato parts. Is this incomplete?

My favorite was the fanfare - it felt the most "complete" of the pieces, and there were some neat pretty neat harmonic shifts (ie, the progression right before the ending chord). The transitions from the "solo" sections to and from the "tutti" sections sound kind of rough, and the voicing/inversion of the chords could be better (ie, more bass). Some percussion would definitely be great as well, but overall, it's quite a nice little piece - good job :).

In someways, that battle theme you heard is actually from Kimura's battle theme (which is incomplete). The fanfare, I wanted a nice woodwind choir feeling (that's why I wrote it). ^_^ I based the beginning of Kimura's battle theme off of FF7 (kinda both FF7 and one of my friend's compostions). :heh: What else is new? :sweatdrop: But, thank you so much! :D :D

Heather could use some work but still.. greatjob! :)

Thank you! ^_^ the Heather piece is written for woodwind choir. :heh: I've been in band since 6th grade and haven't had that much piano lessons.

i agree with noir 7 about "kimura" and how it has some potential in it. i'll say the biggest thing that bothered me in this piece is the dynamic difference between your woodwinds and the piano. i think your woodwinds stand out too much compare to your piano. i think "heather" was the best piece so far. you can improve the melody on it tho. Your battle theme sure had an interesting beat though. (i'm not sure if that means good or bad :heh: )

It's ok. ^_^ I think that everyone's favorite would be ether Kimura or the fanfare. :heh:

The initial theme is very similar to the "Final Fantasy" theme - a bit too close to be unintentional, I'd think. Is this an arrangment of the said piece, or a medley of sorts? Please provide more information about the piece, lest you want more accusations of plagarism or whatnot.

It's a little bit of both. :heh: But, nior, I'm sorry. :( But, here's something more original, nior. ^_^ (For your sake) :)

You should add more accompaniment to this piece. It needs more background, like a Cello or something, especially if you work it in slowly.

No no no no no, you're not getting away this easily. "something more original" ? For christ sake, you totally ripped off two or three of Nobuo Uematsu's pieces and put it on your own name.

:( I apologize. ONLY THE BEST is not on my computer anymore. I will rewrite something else for Vic Migongna. :\ At least can't we be forgiving? I deleted the file off of my computer. :upset: Sorry Nior, at least read the chiriku file and tell me what you think about it. ^_^ Ok?

No no no no no, you're not getting away this easily. "something more original" ? For christ sake, you totally ripped off two or three of Nobuo Uematsu's pieces and put it on your own name. Nior, I know I did, and secondly I was referring to "Chiriku's Musicbox" when I meant ORIGINAL ((I'm not usually a mean person)). The ff pieces in there were from a medley I WAS doing and never got done and I never got around to it. So, I stopped fiddling around with that. And yet again, I apologize for ripping off Uematsu-sensei's two pieces. You're a good composer and I'm trying my best. @_@ So, I plan on hearing your compostions and complamenting you on it. ;) ^_^ (I can understand you being mad at me :D)

I liked "chiriku," but not the piano version. It brought back memories... :neko:

I didn't like how you used those dissonant chords in Eternity. Also, when the music box thingy comes in, it got kind of messed up.

Marlon
September 7th, 2005, 11:08 pm
I didn't get too much into Etertinity, maybe I think because of too many unbroken chords. Sounded a little chunky. Also, I didn't like the way that the piano abruptly ended when the other instrument came in. :heh:

But other than that, the song was O.K. :)

deathraider
September 7th, 2005, 11:30 pm
At the beginning it WAS "chunky." I agree with all previously made points and would like to add a couple things. The beginning of this song was particularly problematic because there are all sorts of holes in the sound that sound accidental. It could use some better pedaling at the beginning. You might want to make this song more interesting and captivating by adding less straight chords, more chord rolls, and more broken cords and arpeggios.

Thanks for your reply. Eternity was first made with piano and harp and that was written with Finale 2003 (notepad). So, I didn't know then. ^_^ Thank you.

EDIT: This is the original (written with 2003)

Chords were alright in this piece... but what you really need to work on is your melody. And I think the flute was introduced too much later in the song.... but since it's not done... I guess you can use that as an excuse ^ ^

Band Geek109
September 13th, 2005, 11:54 pm
Thank you! ^_^ *What it really was is that I had no place to put the flute melody and that's why it sounds a little funky*

Marlon

I didn't like the ending, nor the piano a little before the flute started. :\ Other than that, I guess it was O.K. :heh:
