Noir episode #13.
Kirika takes up a hobby painting, befriends a painter, and falls in love with him (it's more of a crush, but it's as close to "true love" as she's ever experienced.) In the end, the painter is killed in front of Kirika's eyes by the Soldats due to his connections. Kirika is (inwardly) devistated by this, and drops her scetchbook into the river. This is quite symbolic as it represents her expressions of love.

Kirika's in my opinion the only character in Noir (of the main cast anyway) to show some actual emotions. Mireille and Cloe are so shallow x_x

In EoE everyone dies, in the series they don't. I don't know but usually the ending where everyone dies is the sad ending x_x

Asuka
August 8th, 2005, 09:51 pm
They both had sad endings. in EoE everyone died yes, but then, in the series everyone turned depressed. I mean, Asuka, the one that strives to be perfect ended it up laying in a rusty, dirty, empty bathtub in the middle of nowhere. I thought that was kind of sad. Kaji died, which made Misato all depressed. Rei had no personality so she doesn't count. And shinji was depressed because he was only hurting everyone by piloting eva.

RD
August 9th, 2005, 12:28 am
I think the series was more sadder,

because people were alive, but had no reason to, they were all depressed.

The movie everone dies, but then they did for a good reason, to save peoples lives.

In EoE everyone dies, in the series they don't. I don't know but usually the ending where everyone dies is the sad ending x_xTo me the films happier as they have the chance to return if they want to, in the series theres no chance of it & everyones dead for good, well mushed together into lcl which in this case is effectively the same thing for individualsOf course this is probably one of those things thats differant for everyone like so much about the series

Last episode of Tactics

Suzu died in the second last episode, but nothing was said. It was only after half a year in the last episode when everybody found out. Still, her spirit appeared again and again as if nothing happened, and only Kantarou and Rosary knew she was a spirit. Suzu became a spirit because she couldn't rest until everyone was on good terms with each other, especially Haruka and Kantarou.

The whole series of "Now and Then, Here and There" purpose is to make you depressed, though it wasn't that sad to me.

Another one is Futakoi. It's not emotionally depressing, it just sad to think a director would have this extreme of a twin fetish.

*Pulls out anime archives*

Okay to start the list:Kanon When Aya realizes that she was actually dead and the cousin(forget her name) realizes her love is unrequited
Kannazuki no Miko When the lunar priestest turns evil and tries to kill the solar priestest, even though she was in love with her
Serial Experements Lain Though the end turn out happy, the fact that lain is a Deus ex Machina is quite depressing

Half of the scenes in the Rurouni Kenshin OAVs, Trust, Betrayal, and Seisouhen, caused me to bawl endlessly. :heh: The highlights of the sad moments include...

Trust:
As Kiyosato is dying, he reaches for the flower on the ground. That part was really moving.

Betrayal:
The bit at the end, after Tomoe is dead, really made me cry. All Kenshin was doing was fighting in the Revolution, but with the music in the background ("In Memories: Ko-To-Wa-Ri"), it was really sad. The part where Tomoe's spirit embraces Kenshin was rather powerful as well.

Seisouhen/Reflection
Most of this was depressing. :heh: 2 of the saddes parts would have to be when Sanosuke tosses Kenshin the fish and then remembers how Kenshin was stronger in the past, and the part at the end where Kenshin is walking home and Kaoru is running out to meet him. That last part was especially sad because of the song. I've also always been a pro Kenshin-Kaoru person, so that made the scene even more depressing as I was overcome with joy at their reunion and also stricken with grief at the events unfolding before my eyes.

An honorable mention would have to be in the final episode of Honey and Clover, although I found myself crying in almost every episode anyways.

At the end, I just broke out in tears, and that was mainly due to the fact that the series was coming to an end, and the characters had grown up so much. By the end of the series, I really felt connected to all the characters, so I was pretty sad to see it all end. Seeing the scene where Takemoto finally tells Hagu how he feels was also touching for two reasons. The first one was that Takemoto finally summoned up the courage to do so, and the second reason was related to, "What about Morita?!?!?!?!" That end narration by Takemoto was pretty sad as well. Yes, so I was basically beating the floor, screaming, "Nooo!!! It can't be over! NOOOOO!"

Well the whole story behind Lucy is sad like when they beat to death the dog. But do you think Nyu/Lucy came back at the end? I think so.

I want us to eat our meals together...and study together and worry together. I wanna tell you the things that are on my mind...and Kyo...I wanna listen to you. I want us to stay together.

Kyo: It's okay, you don't have to love everything. If you're afraid...if you're afraid it just means you've seen the real me. Not like my mom. She went through all the motions of loving me, but she never tried to see me. I wanted us to talk together, and worry together too. I was fine with her being afraid, even if she didn't love me in that ugly form. I wanted...I wanted us to stay together. I've been a fool...I didnt that anyone...anyone...would ever say that to me. One of the sad moments I saw was in Fushigi Yuugi...
First when Nuriko dies...the other when Miaka falls in love with Tamahome but he rejects her and yeah on and off. The other was Tamahome's family being slaughtered by Suboshi the Seiryu twin. The ending where Miaka's wish came true...Tamahome is in her world showing his ring!
Sailor Moon is still a classic besides comedy and adventure...I just love the drama in the show.
Serena/Usagi gets dumped by Darien/Mamoru and she constantly tries to go back to him as he turns her down. Her crying in the phone booth and the other episode where she is pounding the door to his apartment. Then the part where he throws a rose that is broken and flies into the wind.
X is a Clamp series but I must say I like the dark theme and drama seems so realistic. Like you can sort of relate to the character in a awkward way. lol
Katori is on the cross then her brother stabs Kamui and then finally kills his sister. Thus leavng Kamui traumatized as he really loved her...but was not able to protect her which he promised as a child the day he saved her from falling off the tree. He never let go of her as it looked like he was sleeping on the tree with his head bleeding. Aww that's sweet.

so no one dies in it, BUT when George left and Yukari went off with that other guy i was so annoyed. I still think Evangelion's EoE ending is so depressing, even though it wasnt the best ending Anno could have come up with... Still, the symbolism is absolutely amazing.

If youve ever watched it as closely as I have, you see things that just make you realize what Shinji is going through: its to simple for them to just die on Shinji, they first change thier relationships.(misato-kissed, asuka- strangled-ish, rei-being rei is bad enough) Basicaly, he tries to fight to the bitter end for happiness...then gets crucified, his ego(sense of reality) collapses, his libido narcicises into destrada, pushing him to the state of mind that lets the 3rd impact happen. The only reason he really came back is because he finnaly quit running away(major symbolism, watch the show) and made things go back....ish. The title of the other movie pretty much gives it away: Death and Rebirth (as shinji's mind or as the population of earth, whatever you think is a better metaphor)

Air TV + Movie - Both were good, the end was great as well.
Although as sad as it is, both endings (the same) have a happy ending. Sure it is sad that Misuzu died, but she reached the goal of happiness, and it is the same as Yukito who sacrificed himself to save Misuzu's life. It was very touching ending however, I didn't cry but my heart was jolted. In a way it was both sad and happy.

NGE - Was another good one too, I love watching anime with that bit slice of life.
This series were lil bit vague but it is really meaningful similar to Air TV. Each character and his or her own problem view of life and how they deal with it.
In the end of NGE, Shinji really wasn't alone, like Ayanami said, as long as people still have their will, they will be reborn. And I guess Asuka was one of the first.

There are others too like Samurai Shamploo... H2O... and so on...

I have to say(both from FMA)...
When that stoopid guy fused his dog and daughter and then they were killed, I bawled.
And...
When Lt. Maes Hughes was killed, it was absolutely the saddest moment in the show ever...I bawled even worse than the first one.

I don't think anyone ever said this yet but...

Gungrave... It's a pretty sad story itself... but it I got a little teary when...

"Big Daddy" The syndicate Millenium boss... finds out that Brandon knows he was getting killed and had the scientist necrorise or bring him back to life just for the sake of getting Millenium back to normal.

and... this too

The ending where Brandon and his old friend that was evil and making all the suffering happen, are back together, remembering the good ole' days, then defend each other from the shooting, and in the end, they kill each other.

I love endings that leave you reeling for a couple of days afterwards. Serial experiments lain was really really sweet but can you imagine the loneliness she faced? I can't.

I recently watched an anime (clue to as to what it is: man in white jacket knocks over another main character before assassinating the pope in last ep) recognise? Then you've watched it: Yup Chrono Crusade. I would hate to give away the fact that Chrono crusade has a sad ending cos...you never thought it would actually turn out the way it did. But wow, it was very sweet and you know, the full works: tears and everything. That anime left me really thoughtful over the few days afterwards and left me with a couple of almost sleepless nights. Ha. I was always thinking about how Chrono and Rosette spent their last days and what their relationship was like (the scene that Azmaria imagined was not enough for me). I saw a DVD cover, not sure where it was from; with Chrono and Rosette holding hands on the grass and I thought to myself looking at that: "Yeah thats what it would've been like". Some ppl think they were married in the eyes of god but nahhh I like to think that they were above that.

Ahhhh I love anime.

In Clannad's Fuko Arc:
When Fuko sort of got dissapeared from everyone's memory then she came back for her sister's wedding but after the wedding no one remembered her.

Meh, I am horrible at explaining things. :heh:

MOD EDIT: Good job using the spoiler, but do include something that explains who and what are involved in the spoiler (anime and an subjective point in the plot that doesn't spoil).

I cried when I read Eyeshield 21 when they were about to lose and to the elite team and one of the linemen were about to give up. That was also sad. T.T

I've got to say salty and watery droplets dropped from my eyes during Naruto at a point when something I thought happened didn't happen.

I cried when Choji and Neji fell in battle against the two people from the Sound Four/Five. But I was so happy when I figured out that they didn't die, I was so relieved, otherwise, I probably would have smacked the computer haha.

I don't know how to do that spoiler thing, so I'll just say ANYBODY WHO HASN'T WATCHED THE END OF FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST DON'T READ THIS!!!!!
@_@ @_@ @_@

Anyways, I was crying at the end where Roy had just killed the Fuhrer and was carrying out his son's dead body when Archer comes up and shoots him in the face (or Riza's bullet ricochet (sp?) off of Archer's armor, there's been a lot of debates on that), then when Riza sees Roy on the ground covered in blood...that whole scene had me bawling! Riza and Roy were my favorite characters, so naturally I was a wreck. It also made me sad that it didn't show them ending up together (although we all know they did, it was inevitable anyways LOL).

^ YES! It was, in my opinion, of the the best anime endings of all time, especially with the bit of vagueness at the end. The two OST pieces that play prior to and during the finale are both epic as well.

haven't read the elfen lied manga yet, but the end of the anime was definitly bittersweet.

as for sad moments, i'd say the end (and 90% of the actual series) of AIR.

YES. (And you mean Clannad After Story I assume!) I was going to mention this. I get sad just thinking about it. I think it's one of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen, but then again I'm a bit of a softy when it comes to things like that.

I was really on the verge of tears in Death Note when "L" died. That was so sad because only a few days before, he told Light he was the first friend he ever had. Also cuz "L" is really cool. I got really mad when Light killed him and I hated him. I really started crying, though, when Light died on the last episode. I didn't care if he killed L. I wanted him to rule the world, or at least go to jail and maybe breakout. It's all Ryuk's fault!

There's spoilers everywhere but there not specific so it's okay so sort of spoiler you can't tell what it is:
The end of Ginban kaliedoscope.
Whenever someone died on Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny they were all sad. Also when Romeus meets her again Naruto- whenever someone died. Particularly invasion arc and first arc of Naruto Shippuden
Sailor Moon- whenever they died. But you kinda know that most of the time they'll come back to life. So it's okay!
5 centimeters per second- Even though no one died it crushed my heart when they passed eachother!!!!!
The girl who leapt through time- When he said he will dissapear. So sad.

Elfen Lied was sad when...

Lucy and Kouta hugged at the last episode. Lucy finally felt tenderness in her life. It was sad to think that she suffered through out life and had nothing.

After the hug, Lucy marched to death. Her existence.. so fragile. A valiant march to help the lives of others.

Chrono Crusade :<

You get so close to the characters in that show, you just can't keep it from the tear-jerking ending. Me and a friend were drinking Japanese jasmine tea during the last episode, it was about 2 years ago. My mom bought it about 2 weeks ago and did some for me, and when I got the scent of it I teared all up, I was reminded by the back of my mind of the emotions back then.

Also, Grave of the Fireflies, a Ghibli movie. I cried 30 minutes non-stop after the movie, it left such a scar.
