I will be updating this topic with news about the NDS and Ninendo

~

This may be old news for some of you, but it made me very excited!
Square Enix Co., Ltd.
The World of Mana
A new story of Slime Morimori Dragon Quest
Dragon Quest Monsters series
Egg Monster Heroes
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series
Final Fantasy III DS

All these games are coming out for the DS! The DS seems like it is being over produced by major game comapnies, even Microsoft is developing games for the DS! But you dont see me complaining, just ranting about it. Also, Koei is making a Dynasty Warriors game for the DS, which is going online enabling you to play with others over the internet, all over the world :)

Really? Microsoft developing for DS? A Nintendo system? That doen't make a lot of sense (to me at least). Is it actually Microsoft Game Studios or whatever developing for DS, or is it maybe a second party developer, like Rare (who was acquired by Microsoft from Nintendo)? Just curious to know.

It is Rare that's doing it. However, Rare is a first party developer, not second. It's also unlikely that Microsoft will be publishing whatever games Rare makes for the system. They will likely let Rare go with a third party publisher like having THQ publish the Rare games for the GBA.

yeah thats how it usually goes with companies. they just get THQ to publish it, and they suddenly become more crap...

I think they want to help make the DS Having better games thn PSP

Microsoft doesn't have anything to lose to nintendo when it comes to the DS, after all, Microsoft doesn't have a handheld of their own and they don't have any public plans of creating one. In fact, it could mean money for them if the DS games sell well, so why wouldn't they? There's only profit in there for them.

RD
August 7th, 2005, 08:39 pm
It is Rare, but Rare is 100% owned by Microsoft, so if you think real hard, Microsofts developers are making games for the DS :P

I think they want to help make the DS Having better games thn PSP

According to many major game crtitics, the DS does have better games then the PSP already.

Actually, Rare has managed to make their games crap on their own for quite some time now. They may be revered for a few of their awesome games but they've always been hit or miss at best.

one thing i dont understand, is once i went into a game store i saw a certain game for DS. it was some virtual pet thingy. what is that all about? I guess DS is more like an interactive kind of handheld.

RD
August 8th, 2005, 08:20 pm
Its Nintendogs. Im getting that game when it come out ASAP.

Well, in the game, you get a puppy, and you raise it, take care of it, feed it, play with it, put it in compatitions etc. Its like an extended version of that Win95 game Dogz, but with more to do, diffrent dogs to pick, and better graphics.

Nintendogs is made by Nintendo, and is coming out in the USA on August 22 05.

~~

And you are right Hiei, the DS is practicaly an interactive toy. But isnt that what all game systems are sappose to do? Alow the player to interact with the game? I guess the DS does it better then any other handheld or home system because of the touch screen :D

all of you must have heard about the new game in the "Lunar" series for the DS, right? An interesting bit of info concerning it: those of you who pay attention must have noticed the developer - GameArts (GameArts - creaters of "Grandia" and "Lunar"). However, thats not exactly correct. In reality, "Lunar: Dragon Song" is being developed by Japan Art Media, and GameArts is being more of a consultant...

Pity about that. Makes you wonder how much better the game could've been if GameArts took more of an interest in it. Also suggests that Japanese developers still aren't taking the DS seriously

The `nintendogs` thing means that DS sucks and that itīs pointing to YOUNG players 12-.

Maestrosetti
August 23rd, 2005, 04:51 pm
Are you kidding? The DS isn't pointing to any specific age group. I know people in their twenties who are excited about Nintendogs. Nintendo has always had fun and innovative games. And the fact that aside from a few games such as Geist, Nintendo's games don't have any mature content so they can be enjoyed by everyone. Also, I don't think this is an appropriate thread to be trashing the DS.

Anime_Girl_Jenni

The real problem is that alot of you youngins grow up playing games with fancy schmancy graphics, and take one try at an old game get your arse kicked by the 8/16 bit AI, quit and say it sucks. There is a real future with DS, and besides, Nintendo builds their systems nearly indestructable, sony, well let just say if you drop any new sony system your out a few hundred bucks.

And I grew up with NES and Snes.

RD
August 24th, 2005, 01:28 am
Many of you are telling others 'Graphics dont make a game', yet I see most of the same people trashing Nintendo for that reason.

Just because theres no sex and blood, doesnt mean taking care of a cute little dog wont be fun. I think it is going to be one of the best games ever to tell the truth, for the reason of it being simple.

Resident Evil DS: well, it's not exactly as Spiky said, since you use the stylus as a knife. But with a bit of imagination you can convince yourself that in fact the knife is a feather, and those slashing movements you are doing are tickling the zombie to death ^_^ For Spiky (http://ds.ign.com/articles/644/644741p1.html)

Still, a remake of the first? will the DS hardware allow that?

I don't think any country has managed to get the same colours as someone else. As far as I can tell, the Pink you posted up there, is different to the Pink Australia will be recieving.

Man, i was so looking forward to Lunar:Dragon Song, but i never expected it to get such a low score (6/9/6/6) from Famitsu... and moving MP:Hunters till next year :( But what really got me was Advance Wars Dual Strike: everyone's complaining about sequels right and left, and Intelligent System goes on to release another close copy of the original GBA AW. AW: Black Hole was ok, since there's not much you can do with the GB hardware, but DS? I was at least hoping for new unit design, something - not another clone (or near-clone) <_<

Neko Koneko
August 27th, 2005, 11:36 am
Really? I never herd of that...I thought Aussie land got PAL games/systems, meaning you get the Europe special...

PAL is a television system, not a game system. The DS doesn't use a television so it has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC or whatever.

RD
August 27th, 2005, 07:51 pm
Wrong wrong wrong Angie..

See, each region in the world has diffrent codes for games. Japan [and I think the rest of asia too..] is JAP, America's/Canada is USA and Europe [and I thought Assie and NewZealand] is PAL. But for some reason, the PAL and USA games are exactly the same, other then that particular code and sometimes the name.

Alone
August 27th, 2005, 07:53 pm
what about the language? PAL games support multiple European languages, while NTSC don't...

RD
August 27th, 2005, 09:58 pm
true. Im not sure about that though..

Another way to tell what regioned game you have is look on the game it self. The cart/disk should have a code on it, and the last 3 things should be either JAP/PAL/USA. I think those are the only 3 things, but im not sure...

Elite666
August 27th, 2005, 10:53 pm
Actually, Angelic was rather correct in saying that PAL and NTSC are the two types of TV signal and not specifically regional. He was also correct in stating that the DS has nothing to do with PAL or NTSC, in fact the codes on the cartridges are there for nothing more than ease of distribution since there are no regional lockouts on the DS.

Nintendo has proven in the past that they viewed Australia as seperate from Europe with Australia specific GBA SP designs so there isn't a lack of precedent for the situation here.

@Alone

The DS hardware is far more powerful than the PS1 hardware so I think it could probably handle a remake of a PS1 game.

@Radical_Dreamer

You may want to wait before you say a game is on the way. Just because an interview states that Nintendo is considering a cat based sim and Gamespot says it's a good possibility because Nintendo likes money, it doesn't mean the same as a game announcement.

RD
August 27th, 2005, 10:59 pm
Ah, okay.

But he still seemed confused about what games and PAL had in common. They poyut the spacific JAP/USA/PAL codes in games and systems so it would be harder for people who import. Its more commonly known as a 'Region Lock'. But even though a game has the region codes, it doesnt mean its region locked, like the DS and PSP :P

Elite666
August 27th, 2005, 11:02 pm
Once again, you really don't know what you're talking about. PAL and NTSC were originally put in because they are two seperate types of television and are both standard in different parts of the world. Angelic wasn't the least bit confused. The PAL and similar codes used on portable cartridges aren't there to hinder importing at all. It merely shows which version of the game it is and makes for easier distribution. If anything it helps importers because then they know exactly which game they're getting.

Quick followup on the Resident Evil: Deadly Silence (REDS) game that got announced the other day. I managed to come across scans of the article from Famitsu magazine, which apparently was the place where the screenshots were first seen by the public eye.

http://img381.imageshack.us/img381/2890/reds24fh.th.jpg (http://img381.imageshack.us/my.php?image=reds24fh.jpg)

And now for a sidenote: what is it with DS games and using the DS acronym in the game title? Are they attempting to be clever? First it was Fullmetal Alchemist: Dual Sympathy and now it's bloody Resident Evil: Deadly Silence. What the.

Alone
August 29th, 2005, 06:42 am
well its better than having Resident Evil Advance or something ~ at least they're trying to be clever and not just add DS at the end of every game title

i think ign or nintelligent (www.nintelligent.net) has good screenshots, not just famitsu scans

*Game name here* Advance. Thats how the GBA games were.

But nintendo is being brighter now, and they are making the DS stand for somthing :P

The Super meant that the Super NES was better than the old NES. The 64 meant that the Nintendo 64 had 64 bits. Advance stands for an advanced gameboy. It always meant something in the first place <_<

Little to none. The DS hal allways sold more then the PSP, and when Nintendogs came out in Japan, the sales shot up. It was like for every PSP sold, 3 DS's are sold. Now that Nintendogs is out in America's, and coming out to the rest of the world real soon, Sony should save their strength for the home console fight.

DS has and will allways have better games. The Idea of UMD movies is nice, but how many people make a collection of them like you do with DVD or video cassets? Just some wasted money IMO.

RD

Im dubble posting, but I feel this needs a bump :P
~
Nintendogs sold 250,000 copies in the USA in the first week. 15% of al DS owners bought Nintendogs, and DS sales tripled when Nintendogs came out.

Everything is coming up Nintendogs. People are actualy predicting its going to become a cult thing like Tomagatchi was.

RD

And when it comes out to the rest of the world, I wouldnt be surrpriesed if the DS sold 5 or even 7 for every PSP sold :P

September 1st, 2005, 10:27 pm
DS is already outselling the PSP in Japan =D
PSP is gonna get beaten by Nintendogs, and this is just the start, wait until Lunar comes out! Though that's most probably not going to sell as much as Nintendogs. I just want to see the PSP crumble.

RD
September 1st, 2005, 10:30 pm
Me too. It was selling 3 times the PSP in Japan before Nintendogs was even out, and just wait untill Animal Crossing comes out :P

Yeah, Metroid Prime: Hunters got delayed because of the Wi Fi mode. I'm sure that the wait will be worth it though.

RD
September 1st, 2005, 10:55 pm
Well, I herd it was deleayed. But to make up for the delay, Nintnedo added online VS battle...I wonder if theres going to be a Co-op game play...

Kozmo
September 1st, 2005, 10:59 pm
I do hope so, that will rule so much if they do.
I still think that Animal Crossing is going to be the best online game for the DS though. But it's going to be a pain paying off my debt to the Nook dude, that took me ages =/

RD
September 1st, 2005, 11:06 pm
I think its going to be the best MMORPG of our time becasue its free and you can play almost anywhere in the world. No logging in and its really nice to have it all in a tiny system :P

RD

Quite possably a remake of Xenogears.

Kozmo
September 1st, 2005, 11:21 pm
Lol, don't matter for me i never played any of them, they never came out in the UK :heh:
