Well welcome back. :) Happy youve got to get finale 2005.
Were these older ones or new ones that youve converted?
Moving on-I think I liked this one better. It was a very nice piano solo.
It fits the title very well in my opinion. Nice job 8.7\10
Gentle Dragon- I like the instruments you chose. A very soothing melody too.
8.5\10

Finally... a new composition to share with yall. I couldn't think of a good title for this song so I just picked my favorite word.... "Epiphany". Please leave a comment or two.

Moving on
Good use of leaps to embellish the melodic line. The LH seems almost muddled together with too much pedal at some points, but in retrospect, I think it fits very well. About a third of the way through, the song hits some great chords and a pleasing two-note melody near the upper register of the piano. Unexpected yet nice chord progression near the last quarter of the song in the LH. I like that trill near the end!
Gentle Dragon
Fade-in strings... what a nice choice. I kind of prefer the previous song a bit more. Wonderful change of mood around a third of the way through. The percussion and persistent piano chords embedded within the harmony are a nice touch. The pizzicato is very neat, too. The flute (?) part keeps very well in-touch with the name and theme of the piece. I didn't quite understand the ending in this piece, but I think it actually works with the quasi-Oriental theme going on.
Those Who Longed for a Kiss
Very basic chord progression at first. I was pleased to see it move a bit more away from the cliche it could have easily become if not backed with an open progression and calming melody. This piece is very nice, but I have not much more to say about it. The ending on this sounded very unresolved to me for some reason. It was a bit puzzling at first, but I guess it sounds rather deliberate and purposeful. Don't let my opinion make you change it.
Summer Fling
Although I adore the harpsichord, it usually doesn't work so well in a single-line melody. Very samba-esque, I feel. The steel drums and constant percussion fit very nicely with the title and theme. At times, the melody seemed a bit erratic, but the atmosphere of the care-free feeling carried throughout the entirety of the piece. What an up-beat, energizing song! Nice little fanfare near the end.
Drowning in Your Tear
The music is such a pleasing instrument of choice for this piece. It sounds very emotional to me: driving yet passionate. I like how dimmed the lower instruments are. Too often compositions are displayed with overbearing bass parts. The repetitious chord progression doesn't get on my nerves at all. I think it rather fits the theme very well. Although it left no clear melody in my head by the end of hearing it, I could listen to this for a while before I get remotely bored with. Good percussion line about 2/3 of the way through... very nice, actually! The piano reduction near the end is also a good way to end this piece. The fade-out is a good idea.
Bland Seashore
From the first note, I can tell this piece is very rhythmic and pulsing. The block chords would normally seem boring to me, but you executed them well. I like the use of the pad "Rain FX" used to encircle the other parts. I didn't quite understand the point of this piece, but now that I look back at its name, it evokes the scene well. Halfway through you change melodies a bit. What a relief from the constant piano runs at just the right time! Nice use of the seashore FX near the end.
Curious and Oblivious
Unique chord progression, I'd say. Good idea to use the e-piano for once. The rare "clap-clap" in the percussion is a nice add-on. I like how you use the pad "Bowed FX" to underline the harmonies at some parts. The bass part sounds so sassy to me when it first breaks in. The addition of an acoustic piano near the ending is a nice escape from the e-piano present all throughout the earlier bits of the song.
Heart Beat
You sure are good at creating simplistic, emotive pieces! I like how moving and fluid the LH is and the fact that the melodic line is so easy to get stuck in the listener's head. The synthesizer pad is very nice. It's nice to see your chord progression altered a bit later on as you progressed. I like the RH part a lot at the part when some sort of flute (?) or synthesized instrument takes a short melody just after halfway through. Your use of diminution and augmentation of the progressions and melodic theme in specific is very masterful.
Epiphany
Whatever the epiphany is that is portrayed in this song, it sure sounds a little dramatic/tramatizing/beguiling.... So many thoughts come to mind. Once again, good percussion line. Just the right volume, I say. That oboe (?) part is good. About a quarter of the way through, what is that wonderful instrument which takes the melody briefly? It suonds almost like plucking mixed with an e-piano or one of the synthesized pad FX of the GM bank. The instruments layer well altogether with one another. I like the ending a lot. The guitar comes in perfectly as the piece seems to lose its force and fade away whilst the strings and piano finish off the cadence.
I like your work, yellowmonkey121. Keep on writing! :)

I didn't have time to listen to all your songs, but here's what I think.
Gentle Dragon
I liked this and it was soothing not sure where the dragon though.
Moving On
I did like this piece though I have to admit I wasn't drawn in.
Those who longed for a kiss
This is a nice piano solo! I enjoyed this piece thouroughly
Unfortunately this is all I have to say so far. I'll come back later and add more though. Keep up the good work.

Thank you. These are some wonderful feedbacks. I'm very proud of the last composition. More comments are welcome.

That is a combination of Honky-Tonk Piano and Electric Piano.

Epiphany- I really think this one stands out from the rest to me.
Sounds dramatic, has a good melody that kept me interested, and a good precussion to add to that.
Great job.

I guess this is called the "arrangement" of a certain piece. (I'm not too sure) Anywho... this is one of my favorite anime song. Fruits Basket - Epilogue (http://ichigos.com/music/midi/fruitsbasketepilogue.MID) . I just wanted to test my new finale 2005 by adding some instruments. Tell me if I did a good/bad job. Oh.... and 1 more old song.

It's not unique. It's a nice chord progression though. This chord progression is definitely from Beethoven unless someone before made it. But I like all of yellow monkey's songs anyway.
That's the best transcription I've heard for fruits basket. You should put it up in transcriptions.

Unforgetable Story
This seemed as though it was a very nice piece, except I felt the intro was a bit too long, and at the beginning the piano seemed a bit out of place. Besides that, it was VERY nice.
Fruit Basket
This was a very nice piece of work, though I'm not sure I share the same love of this song with you. I like how you use background instruments in your songs, BTW.

Ehem! a new piece is ready now. There is a co-composed song coming up soon as soon as the co-composer finishes his part. (shaking my fist in the air)
I consider this as a Prelude but that won't be the same case to the other people. Please leave me some comment. I don't know whether I'm getting better or worse... or still the same.

Um...yeah, it was nice! I liked it for the most part. In some places the beat became a bit repetative, but that's not that bad. It sounds...bigger than a moonlight journey though. I don't know. It just sounds grander than a moonlight journey should.

Well... yeah of course. Everyone has to study to get better at it. I listen to a lot of other music and study that way. I listen carefully to what instruments the music plays and how those intruments affect the music. That's basically how I study music. But I'm really consdering taking a music theory class.

@Noir7: Yeah... true. But a yellow monkey with a red heart in the middle with a white background doesn't look as good as a white monkey sillouette with a red heart in the middle with a yellow background.
@Pyramus: Told you it was simple!
Oh by the way.... the xylophone in the song is supposed to imitate the sound of a clock.
Shizeet
October 11th, 2005, 06:24 am
The xylophone parts are really neat - kinda reminds me of Southeast Asian (ie, Gameleon) music, actually. Other than that, it's kinda typical, but not too shabby I guess. Some more variation in the drums, or just the piece in general would've been nice, but oh well.

Hm, the beginning was pretty usual and good - but I didn't like what came after the drumroll. I thought the song was about to bubble and boil, but it didn't. Good use of orchestration in the middle parts though.
And you're right, I did notice you slacked off in the end, hehe.

Piano and Electric Bass. Then comes the drum. Synth string comes in next. Acoustic guitar is next and after that it is the overdriven guitar. And finally comes the harmonic guitar. Question... In your opinion, what kind of genre of music do I compose? Someone asked me that and I was sort of stuck on that question. Is it.... easy listening?

I've been busy working on my retirement so I haven't been here in awhile and perhaps one day I will share what I mean by "working on my retirement" (and no it has nothing to do with music). Wow, I just try to imagine myself doing these harmonics at that speed... considering they sound like pinched ones, it'd be heeeell.
But it's nice piece nonetheless :)

i dont want to be mean but then again there has been a group of people who has been stepping on my toes - not just one... but more than one toe. why is that? because my music sounds like some other songs? pffff. i just dont get it. i'm sure you guys don't consider yourself as haters... cause that would be stupid right?
