Both of these pieces impressed me musically, they did.. but to me it seems like you composed these from music theory, rather than composition talent. They're not bad at all, but they lack creativity.

"Caprice" had a pretty good chrod progression, and it felt fresh. "Scherzo" had a great orchestration, and a wise use of instruments.

Heh, i've never studied music theory! Look in my sig, that's my philosophy! :)

How's this for a creative piece, eh?

well... none of them are my type of music but when i saw the sheetmusic for them.. it looked pretty hard to compose. (especially nocturne) my favorite piece from you so far is caprice because of your chord which is pretty interesting. and nocturne for some reason reminded me of Metroid (the game)

Noir7

Your Nocturne doesn't sound like a nocturne to me. It's unique in its own way I suppose, but it sounds kind of corny. Your bass-strings reminded me of the Bond leitmotif.

Aaah! I get it! You want game music! :shifty:

Check this out, it's pretty amateurish! I stopped making vgm a long time ago! :heh:

Sounds very heroic, good job! If I'd give it a score, it would be 7/10 :)

So, i've finished my waltz caprice..

PS: Notice that it's in midi format. :shifty:

Marlon
August 18th, 2005, 12:50 am
Well, it didn't sound like a waltz at all.

I didn't like when it abruptly changed the left hand to some really fast notes (thirty-second notes, maybe?). But overall it was very good. :)

Letehn
August 31st, 2005, 01:26 pm
What do you mean? It's so waltzy that it's almost a clichee! :\

New stuff.....

I don't want to get too technical but, an Etude (french for Study) is purely meant to be practice for some sort of technique. I bet 100 bucks that you can't play this piece, thus you don't really know what it is a study of.

heh, maybe I'm wrong though, just pointing it out :)

Letehn
August 31st, 2005, 02:02 pm
Yes, you are wrong. Tis be a finger and speed exercise. Don't underestimate me. ;)

PS: I can play this piece. (slowly, but i'm gaining tempo)

P.PS: Sooo.. Eh.. Do you like it?

Noir7

I was simply going from the fact that your signature proves that you don't know much about music.

Letehn
August 31st, 2005, 03:46 pm
Hah, that is actually a Debussy quotation. I thought it was fun.

So Debussy didn't know much about music, eh? ;)

Like the waltz, which sounds like a waltz, IMO. (Although, a "proper" waltz might have fewer tempo changes, and might be slower? Not an expert on waltzes; and I like the tempo-changes and speed, so I'm not complaining.)

The waltz is the only thing I can listen to, as it's the only midi.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

I bringeh't thee midis.

Ah, there be midis!

Like the tempo and mood of the pieces.

Btw, the Minuet (again, I feel the bass line is inappropriate for a proper Minuet; again I'm unsure, really; and again I don't really care ;) ) sounds especially neat if you set the instrument to Tremolo Strings. Try it, if only for fun. :D

(And there's no way I could ever play that Etude. *gasp*)

Letehn
September 1st, 2005, 10:16 am
Yes, the etude is quite difficult. Try a piano duo (if you want to play it, something i doubt :shifty: ). Thanks again for all feedback, any suggestions on how to improve the pieces?

Find my thread, listen to the pieces, and notice how your composing skills outdo mine. :heh:

One thing you might want to try (not for the etude, but it might work for the waltz and the minuet) is, separate some of the voices into several channels and experiment with various instruments. You know, try some arrangements and stuff. *Shrugs*

Improving pieces is hard for me, if I see no obvious short comings.

When I'm done with a piece, I rarely edit it later on. It's hard, and it just feels weird =P You should just take comments and use them to improve future compositions.

I did the waltz for a string quartet, don't know if it works. waddaya say?

PS: Just ignore the weird language in the sheets!

EDIT: Sorry, noir. I didn't see your post. Editing pieces works fine for me.

I get confused easily and try to keep as few programs on my computer as possible. I don't like clutter. (May sound silly, I know... :heh: ) Sorry for being a bother.

I like the arrangement a lot. Nice dynamics! Very waltzy in a parisian way. *Dreams*

Hmm, this migth be the first piece i'll add to my portfolio. You sure it's 100% done? I'm not to sure about the ending.

PS: Thanks for the comments. :)

Dawnstorm

Well, the ending does sound a bit abrupt, I feel. But, sadly, I have no suggestions, because ending a song is one of my most stubborn weaknesses.

Letehn
September 3rd, 2005, 08:10 pm
I will look into that. In the meantime, fest yehr eyes on this. It's really bad

deathraider

I quite like this song. It has a very good melody, though in a couple spots the harmony could use tweaking. Oh and around 50 sec, it get's a bit choppy in places. Maybe you could use some pedaling in there. On the ending, too, it needed a chord, and not a single note (of course in my opinion).

Hmmm. Overall, very interesting and unique. ^_^ Your Waltz is my favorite. You seem to have a thing for medium to fast-paced emotional music, which is cool. It'd be interesting to see you do something orchestral, though.

Good job. B)

Hah, of course! You want a midi!

I'm thinking of revising this one, any suggestions?

PS: This is probably the only ''capriccio thing'' i have ever done.

Marlon
September 5th, 2005, 07:33 pm
Sounds so kingdom-ish. ^_^

I liked it, but then again, some parts sounded like they needed more harmony. Also it was VERY short.

This would make good background music. It sounds an awful lot like a lot of other piano music though. It doesn't really distinguish itself. Ooo, wait. I like that waltzy bit. But still, most of the themes aren't very memorable.

MIDI
Congratulations on all the orchestration! I didn't realise how short it was because it was looping so well. Great use of percussion. The flute part is capriccious. It's effective. I like it. Five points for Gryffindor.

I'm kinda in a ''try all kinds of styles'' period. I want to see what works best for me, and also, i've had the composition labelled magical by at least two people. :P

New piece!

Scherzo is pretty good! It REALLY needs to be expanded upon, though, and I'm not so hot on some of the pauses. Besides that, it sounds vunderful.

I didn'y like the dissonant chords that started at about 00:40, and ended somewhere around 01:05. :\

But other than that, I liked it. :)

Didn't sound jazzy to me  Especially not the latter half. I found the ending to be funny, and didn't really fit in. It came from nowhere and just ended.

Also, you've done what again?

Marlon

I liked the ending! XD So unexpected and... wierd!

Well, anyways, it's not jazzy. But it was pretty good. :)

Sorry, but I don't like this stuff at all.. you can't even put a label on which type of music it is.. it's just "Music" to me.. your frases are too short, some repeats are uneeded... i don't know, just i get a bad vibe from your music.. doesn't sound preety to me.

Preety = Musically.

Letehn
November 9th, 2005, 03:27 pm
Well, that's encouraging. ;)

It's all rigth, you are entitled to your own oppinion. I am very fresh at this game and my music thoery training is, well, not there. I've just started studying harmony and form though, so this will all improve in the future.

well, Funebre (Funeral in French) didn't sound anything like a funeral. i know it supposed to be resembled to hate, but i didnt even feel a fake feeling from it. 2/10.. sorry

the second, landler, kind of sounding like "Dredle Dredle Dredle.."

I mean, for the most part, you repeat the theme twice, add an odd chord progression, then theme, then progresson again. then with an odd/weak ending. 0/10 vry sorry....

Letehn
November 15th, 2005, 07:05 am
Why do you think i called it ''funebre''? I mean, why would i call it funebre if i didn't know what the word meant? ;) I can see that this isn't your style, as my funebre has been called intruiging more than once. Same with the landler..

But anyways, the funebre was based on MY bad experiences. If you listen carefully enough, you migth hear that.
