Hurray! I finished my first ever composition!

This one is called Waltz to the Stars, a cute little pice that makes me think of the night sky and stars when I listen to it. I attempted to practice my music theory and did a little experimenting. Most of all, I really enjoyed making this song.

Bottom line, it's not that great, but I think it's cute and had a lot of fun.

Feedback is much aprreciated!

Dreadfully sorry, but it would be much more convenient if you were to give us a MIDI file to view instead. Also, it is much safer to use a MIDI/MP3 file for public submission, as it would be terribly easy to steal credit for a MUS file by changing the composer's name slot.

Nice melody! It sounds like a love song. I don't think this should be a piano solo. I think this would rock if this song becomes orchestrated or something. But that's just me.

Well for a first composition it sounds great usually someones first sounds kind of random but I didnt hear any of that. Good how you changed the left instead of just playing the chords with the waltz style in the beginning. I thought maybe you could have added some pedal in it though. Overall I have to say great job for a first composition. :)

As for the mus\midi problem heres the .mid file for anyone without finale.

Waltz fo the Stars

Good job pin-pointing how to make a song sound like a waltz. Very good and precise use of cadences. With a strong melody and varying LH parts, this sure is a good song. You've managed to avoid the cliche waltz sound enough to keep us all interested and not knowing what to expect. Near the end, I like the part where the RH plays alone for just a little bit. Lastly, you followed up near the end with a good block chord passage in order to restate the tonic and draw the listener in until the last note.

I like this song. It's off to a good start for your composing, KakumeiLight! :)

this piece is actually not bad. only thing that bothered me was some of the chords. however i like the fact that this is your first piece. (very nice for your first one) now don't get mad... 'cause i did play around with your piece without asking.... but i just wanted to show you that just by changing the chords can really improve songs. (remember... i did NOT touch your melody) oh and sorry for the ending. i'm actually eager to hear your next composition.

Wow, Yellow Monkey, I really like your arrangement. (I'm fine with the fact that you messed with it, as long as you said so.) I am also bothered by the chords in my piece, but with my limited knowledge in chord progressions, I didn't really know how to fix them.

Do you mind telling me how you smoothed out some of the harmony progression wise? (I'd like to take some of what you say and learn more about harmonizing, as you can see, I'm still a beginner ;) ) Thanks a lot.

I think I'll add another composition(s?) in about two weeks, as I have Jazz tryouts next Thursday and a busy academic schedule next week. Or maybe, I can take the weekend to get down and compose one. I'm not sure, it depends. Sorry for those that...um...wanted to watch me grow into a tiny flowering composer bud or something.
