Aeila's Submission

The name sure does ring true when listening to the tune. I like the choir parts, and as the piece progresses (though it is short) the ear gets used to the seemingly-random harp part. This piece was too short, I fear, for it to have left any sort of impact on me.

Ravelle's Submission

Quite a programmatic cataclysm going on between the 4 hands, eh? This song is uniquely classical (romantic... impressionistic...?) in comparison to the others. Though it is nice to see such a style going on here at Ichigo's, it didn't impress me quite enough to get my vote.

Maestrosetti's Submission

What a pleasant melodic theme. The to-and-fro chord progression is a neat concept, and the flute coming in later on in the piece sounds very nice and well-phrased. In retrospect, some of the phrases feel a bit stretched beyond their limits, but it's overall a very nice effect.

Gnomish's Submission

I am exempt from adjudicating my own piece.

Klonoa's Submission

This song has a nightly feeling about it. Although it does not affect my decision, I'd like to hear an Mp3 of this song some day. As the piece progressed, the constant arpeggiations of the LH were so consistent that I nearly wished you would add a bit more variety, though near the end you did just that. Good call and good ending.

Cursed Angel's Submission

Your composition is very light and shy, it feels. I like that. It goes very well with the nocturne theme of the CMA this time around. What a peculiar piece with a soft-spoken melody... nearly snagged my vote!

Al's Submission

This is one laid-back piece! The subtle entrance of the lower register of the piano is a very good plus, and the soft melodic line lends the piece to a certain charm. Although some of this song's chord choices remind me somewhat of Uematsu's work, this song retains its own character; unique structure, catchy and innocent melody, inner broken chords, and a wonderful ending add to the charisma of the composition in whole. This one managed to get my vote.

Finally done listening to the first bunch! :) Great job, everyone!

End result: My vote went to Al for his lovely "Dreams of a Kiss".

I thought I put an MP3 Link..
Well anyway can we just vote or do we have to like critique them? :)

You can do either, but it is preferred that you comment on them. By the way, you put two links (midi and mp3) so I just picked one. :/

Also note that this is a public poll: You can see who voted for who.

Self-voting is stupid.

Well, its been awhile since i left here. Its good to hear more compositions being posted up and shared. Let me say this:
From when I joined Ichigo's composition thread compared to now, there has been a dramatic change of quality of written music here than I can remember. I have to say this was the toughest choice because all of them have a unique sound and feel. Each one has by far passed my expectation of a great composition. I may have to raise the bar for my standards. All your (the composer's) song have brought me from beginning to end, and took me for an adventure. Each of you told me your story through your music. Take some time and think about what I'm going to say next: Invest in publishing your music. You all have the gift of music and composition that can have great potential.

Shouts out to Al, Gnomish, and Xenosaga. It's been awhile since I've talked to you guys. It seems that I've missed alot while I was away. you guys rock!

To all the composers, take off and soar, and see the world in a new perspective up there, and show the rest through your music what it is.

Hey Archangel, glad to see you around again!

Wahh, it's been too long since I was able to listen to compositions and comment, so I'm glad for the chance that this CMA has provided . . comment away people! =)

Aeila - Panic of the Stars
I loved the panic feeling you set up, although I felt it took too long before the choir was allowed to come in. Your piece is short enough as it is (although sometimes panic attacks do suddenly come and go!). I would have preferred the melody to stand out more, as it was drowned out by the accompaniment.

Ravelle - Prelude no.3 "????", for 4-handed piano
I can see this piece being underrated. Some would see this as randomness or whatever, but I know how extremely difficult it is to write in this style. Although you get props from me for your grasp of musical technicality and harmony, I'm sorry I can't vote for you theme-wise =T

Maestrosetti - Ballet Hanté
I don't know why, but I didn't like the whistle you used =\ oh well, aside from that, I liked your song. Definitely lived up to its name and unique theme. Nice chord progression + its extension, and nice usage of the right hand to tie everything together. Although it did sound a bit overbearing due to its repetitive nature, I can't think of a way around that. I would have preferred some more variety in the accompaniment (I understand it's a ballet, but still) and a stronger ending (maybe a fade out?).

James Greterman (Gnomish) - Nightfall
Captivating accompaniment right from the start. Wonderful soft instrumentation, and I liked how it was backed up and everything. I know how you used a chord played by the strings to introduce the next section, but perhaps you can make it stand out a bit more and not fade out? As in, don't make it a chord, but rather, make it an integral introduction/note for the next section? Because I can't explain it, but I feel like the fading chord was not strong enough for the transition. Or instead of that, you can even have the strings come in even sooner, to build up to that next part? Meh, I don't know what I'm saying, it's just a picky little thing on my part, probably nobody else cares, haha. Wow, 2 minute mark approximately, interesting chords and mood change! And you managed to integrate it with the main theme? Impressive, and also a nice ending indeed =P

Klonoa (Rfree21_82) - Lulling Nights
Someone should perform and record this song for you. The midi doesn't do it justice, and the pedaling was not as clean (and often) as I would have liked. This was a very sweet song . . your style *almost* reminds me of Michael's (former mod, in case anybody was wondering, and I'm not saying you copied him, haha) . . hmm, some awkward breaks in the left hand accompaniment? As nice as this piece was, about 1/3 into the piece, I felt too much was going on, so that it was no longer 'lulling' to me, sorry.

Cursed Angel (xenosaga) - A walk though the stars
You've got a beautiful mood and imagery set up. Stupid midi's pedaling ruins it . . anyways, I'm not used to this style and harmony, and so I found it a bit hard to follow. Meaning, I didn't know the direction you wanted to take, not that it was random . . try to expand your ending, let us know it's coming? =)

Alphonse Nguyen (Al) - Dreams of a Kiss
Note to self: blahhhh =P learn to use your recording software more effectively!

VOTED FOR: Gnomish (and this is not a reciprocal gesture, in case anybody was wondering! =P)

Oh, I get it. Oops. Well now you know why my signature is what it is. Sorry everyone.

Panic of the Stars
Huh??? The link does NOT lead to an MP3, and it only goes on for 35 seconds...meh. I'll come back for this one later.

Prelude no.3 "????", for 4-handed piano
Wow! I must seriously applaud you! This is a very well written song! Except a few loose ends here and there, this song is very much like a song I heard the 5 Browns preform on stage! (Except they had 5 pianos, and they were Steinways, not midi patches) I have a great respect for this piece, and would love to hear it preformed in real life!

Ballet Hanté
In general, I tend to agree with Alphonso on this one. It is VERY spooky and fits it's name. However, it does seem stretched thin. I would have liked more changes it things.

Nightfall
This song is very beautifull! I love the strings in the background. Just one thing that bothers me is when the strings are on melody. You can probably ignore it since I don't know why it bothers me...oh well. This song is nice and sweet, representing night very tastefully.

Lulling Nights
Yay! I LOVE this song! I can't wait 'till I can make the recording!!! I feel so
privileged! This song makes me feel the TRUE feeling of the night that I love!

A Walk Through the Stars
The beginning melody of this piece I like but the pedaling and some of the harmonies seemed very out of place. There were harder dissonances where it seemed there needed to be something too soft. I also would have liked it to greatly expand after what you had!

Dreams of a Kiss
Very beutifull! I wish I knew how you had put in the instruments on top of the recording so smoothly! Sometimes, however, I felt you were going somewhere that you didn't go. I guess I had a little bit of the same problem with this one as you had with A Walk Through the Stars! A note of personal taste: I would have preferred a different instrument than the violin or whatever that was preforming the melody.

Voted for: Lulling Nights

Voted for: Al

I chose his composition because it felt new, exciting and personal. It had everything a good composition should have, and it reflected around this month's theme.

The rest of the songs were okay too, but they didn't have that night feeling I wanted for a winner. Gnomish's song had the night feeling to it, and Klonoa's song had its moments.

I wavered between Gnomish's, Al's and Klonoa's song. All of them are imo on a very high level, but in the end, the style of Klonoa's song is very much to my liking (sounds a bit like the AIR TV OST :)), so my vote goes to him.

Alright, I closed the two voting topics. Could someone put the winners' songs (mine and Klonoa's) in a new poll please? I still can't post polls due to internet retard..ness.
