Experimental Topic #3: Sometimes it happens: you're walking somewhere and suddenly you see something that makes you stop in your tracks and changes your viewpoint drastically. For example, seeing teenagers beat up a man/bum/another teen half to death does that to you.

Does that ever happen to you? Can you be affected by one small episode (something you saw) in your life, which happened most likely to a complete stranger about whom you don't even care... but for some reason you do. It happens to me sometimes: a 10 second real life episode can change me. Sometimes i imagine it as a "level up" in an rpg - i see something that makes me stop, something changes in me, and a small icon above my head "Level Up - Honor Increased to Lv. 8" ^_^ something like that... or sometimes it just shocks you: you stand for 5 minutes, people are rushing past you but you don't care, and one thought goes on and on in your head: "he almost beat a man to death. and he talk's about it in this casual manner? is he a monster, or what???"

Yup. That really reminds me of that UK murder of the 3 year old by the two 10 year olds..

Many things change my mood and the way I think for a long time. the Hurricane did it, and the though of my village not being prepared for a Tsunami has been making me a bit crazy for a while. Many people just dont care about others, and its just crazy. I read books that are total fictional, and I still get shocked when someone kills someone else and they just stand there like they dont care. Im shocked and stuned if anyone can really be like that in real life. But they arnt monsters, just people that need help.

You're not alone, Alone (Gosh! That's so ironic!). ^_^

That happens a lot. They make you a better and more admirable person, and sometimes it can save you dreadful experiences.

when you see someone who is suffering a great deal more than you and you think your life is bad you can't imagine how they feal, for me I saw a young women with no legs and had a very hard time talking and writing yet she had total brain function just to think that she knows people are giving her nasty looks and thinking she's weird or having pitty on her, SHE KNOWS, she's not mentally retarded she knows just how we know. She's also so much happier than I am. sometimes I think my life is horrible and parents suck and school sucks and when I think about her and the others like her I really think about my life and realize that I have it made I have friends I have functioning legs and then I feel selfish because this girl is happier than I am and she's obviously less fortunate than me and i feel extremely crappy.

lol my dads saying when someone is mad at someone or sad or upset "Well.......It's better than a sharp stick in the eye...." lol it makes you smile

That's so true.

Most of us don't realize what we have until we lose it or see someone whose lost it (that's what I meant by saving yourself a dreadful experience).

your little story fits me perfectly ! I feel that way too sometimes. I've heard about similar cases(about ppl without legs and such). I mean.. they always look so happy? OF COURSE it's good, maybe they're really unhappy inside or they really are happy. I don't know.

Probably should have, but then again a scream could be anything. Someone could have dropped glass or saw a snake or smething.

After seeing a man slit another man's throat quite a few years ago, I am extremely conscious of protecting my throat. I find necklaces and turtlenecks very uncomfortable, and often sleep without a shirt to feel "free". When I get the money it's off to the shrink I go.

You're ignorant.

What DaveX meant was probably that if you're unaware of something, it won't concern you. It wasn't really meant to reflect on this topic, I think.

ie, if there's a spider on your head, and it crawls away, it's the same thing as if it was never there in the first place. Is it not?

Very interesting question. I too have heard this and have thought about it. But, you would never know. (unless you did something like film it while no one was around)
maybe we think it makes a sound but it really doesn't.

sorta off the topic but I always wondered about this............its about what you see........
(think outside the box) let's say that you grow up learning that the color of grass is green. but lets say that what YOU see as "green" is what I see as, lets say, "red". now i know that can be confusing but think about it if you grow up learning what colors are named what then how do you know that what your "green" is my "green" they could actually be totally 2 different colours. You can never find out but what if thats true what if the world looks totally different in your eyes than it does in my eyes we just grow up learning it that way.

anyways just something I always thought about b/c it makes me pondor.

There was a man who photographed a dying (literally dying) African child being stalked by a vulture. I think the story goes he left the child to die, won an award for the photograph and went off to commit suicide in guilt.

when i see someone suffering i try to help. People have tried to mug me before when i was younger. That changed me. coz i was submissive, i didnt have anything they wanted and needed. but i took the abuse...never again, never again am i gunna sit back if it happens. even if i cant win i will fight it.

The best example I can think of is my school's trust councelor, who cannot walk nor anything, and yet her smiles can melt your heart and help you realize we're all so lucky (she always says that "God did not take away my legs, but gave me second chance"). ^_^

She ended up like that after an accident and most people would think she were grumpy.

Or maybe they were thinking and someone said something to them... :shifty:

I'm just relating this to my friend, she jumps like thirty feet and screams every time I interrupt her "thinking." :heh:

Well...The tree was always there. Let's say birds had a nest there but they weren't around to hear it then it matter but this is quite off topic...

Yes that has happened to me and I feel bad because (as others have said) I get mad at the world for the smallest things while other have gotten it a lot worse than I do.

My school counseler is paralized form the waist down (I think), yet she is always smiling no matter how bad the situation is! I think I admire her for that.
