1 1 1 = 6
2 2 2 = 6
3 3 3 = 6
4 4 4 = 6
5 5 5 = 6
6 6 6 = 6
7 7 7 = 6
8 8 8 = 6
9 9 9 = 6
___________

I have this for a test at school. You're only allowed to put math symbols in between the numbers. Any will do, such as ( ) ^ + - / etc etc.. You're not allowed to put in any additional numbers.

Does anyone know how to solve this? Some of them are easy, and I've completed some of them. Well, go nuts XD

There's no way Im doing math problems that I'm not required to by my school!

ill give you help on the ones you cant do... But id rather not just start doing them for..."fun?"

1 1 1 = 6

2 + 2 + 2 = 6

(3) 3 - 3 = 6

(v-4) + (v-4) + (v-4) = 6

5 5 5 = 6

(6) 6 / 6 = 6

7 7 7 = 6

8 8 8 = 6

(v-9) X (v-9) - (v-9) = 6

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Im going to edit them as I figure it out.
This is fairly simple :D
KEY
~~
v- = square root
Lol, thanks ^^; You covered the ones I already knew though =P The first one is said to be the hardest.
XD I did...
I'm going to try the ones RD missed
(1 and 8 will use the same method)
S={1,2,3,4,5,6,7}
a*b=MOD7(a-b+1)+6
1*1*1=6
5 / 5 + 5 = 6
7 - (7 / 7) = 6
I came up with a really wierd way to do 8.
S={1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9}
a*b=MOD9(a+b-1)+1
8*8*8=6
Can you use sets and operations like that?
What math level are these? Are we allowed to use calculusy thingys?
what is the meaning of this character "^"
I dont know..im only in algerbra 1..
what is the meaning of this character "^"
It's an exponetial thingy. 2^2 = 2 to the 2nd power = 4
Anyways, I kind of did # 8...
well clearly your way ahead of me in math :/
What about 9 9 9 = 6 oblivion?
Oblivion
Well, I just started Algebra 2 one wednesday.(Thats accually when I learned how to do that)
Actually, the solutions should be done without a calculator. There is supposed to be an easier way..
what grade are you in?
Noir7
It's not for math class. It's for a class titled Digital Technique (directly translated). Mostly binary stuff, but this is said to be important aswell.. somehow.
im in geometry and i dont know how to do these!:sweat:
well, actually, i probably did know when i was in alg. 2, but i forgot everything i learned ova teh summer.
Is this what you want?
(1+1+1)! = 3! = 3 x 2 x 1 = 6
2+2+2 = 6 (or 2 x 2 + 2) = 6
(3 x 3) - 3 = 6
(4+4) - (square root of 4) = 8 - 2 = 6
(5/5) + 5 = 6
(6 + 6) - 6 = 6
7 - (7/7) = 6
haven't figured out 8 8 8 =6 yet
(9 + 9) / (square root 9) = 18 / 3 = 6
Oblivion
If it's binary, then could you go...
8 in binary is 1000 so...
8 - 1 + 000 - 1 + 000 = 6
Noir7
For the first one: You're not supposed to add more numbers :/
Oblivion
muffin, you have alg.2 before geom.? I have it the other way around.
! is a function Noir7. It takes the number and multiplies it with every natural number preceeding it.
(1+1+1)! = 6 I'm not adding more numbers I was just showing you how it works...Oblivion gets it.
2+2+2 = 6
(3x3)-3 =6
(4+4) - (square root of 4) = 6
(5/5) + 5 = 6
(6 + 6) - 6 = 6
7 - (7/7) = 6
square root of (8+8) + third root of 8 = 6
(9 + 9) / (square root 9) = 6
Noir7, I'm assuming you've covered factorials? It's the ! sign.
Not allowed to add any more numbers, only use (+,-,*,/ etc.)
Wow, well done. I wouldn't have even thought of the factorial thing unless I got out my calculator and looked at every single button on it, lol.
Noir7
September 3rd, 2005, 01:27 pm
Wow, you got them covered, thanks ^^; I'm not sure if that factorial thing is right though, because it was to be done without a calculator. But meh, you're probably right.
Factorial is possible without a calculator. Just with huge numbers it's very useful. :P
that factorial thing is right. You don't need a calculator. Just need to know what it means. It's the closest answer to it anyway that anyone has thought of.
