Zatch Bell (www.zatch-bell.com) (Koniji no Gash Bell, as the japanese releases called it) strikes me as a very... not serious anime; nevertheless, there's *something* about it that's endearing. Has anyone else seen this/have any idea why it's ... captivating in that way?

For those of you who don't know what it's about (probably everyone; it strikes me as something you wouldn't actually start watching until you had to watch your children watching it, as I did), it's the story of a bunch of demon-creatures that wander around fighting each other... the catch being that they have to obey and rely on thier human masters, and return to a "spirit world" if their book is destroyed.

This is the anime that is so dumb that its good!! I love zatch bell it is so simple but really intrigues me. It takes alot to do that for me... I think its just the story behind the infantile concept.

;) i love zatch bell. i think its hillarious, and just lovable. The dub on Toonami is very good and keeps true to the origanal. I reccomend this anime to all you folks. also the card game is fun too, me and my bro played it a few days ago and had a great time with it.

I'm so glad I wasn't just going insane - I was afraid my little brothers had infected me with something horrible ^^ Very glad to hear there's actually something there that makes me like it.

On a sidenote, has anyone played the ccg? After reading through your guys's posts, I went and checked out their website again and they have a link to something about it... Very "strategy"-like, methinks.

has any1 tried the card game? me and my bro were playing it the other night and i thought it was great fun, alot of stratagy for such a little game :D

Yep, I've tried the card game. The cards and the spellbook that comes with 'em are pretty cool, and the gameplay is pretty original. Not sure if I want to get into card game stuff again, though; piano's fine for me.

Gash Bell is... odd - that big-mouth-grin little girl really freaks me out :blink: I'm not very fond of the artwork though the storyline is okay.

Naomi? Yes, her mouth.... is disturbing. Zatch Bell's art style really isn't particularly serious most of the time - but would it really make the show better if it was?

Not a dress -- a smock. You can sometimes see upper- and middle-class boys up to five or six years old wearing them in old photographs ca. 1860s-early 1930s. My mom has a picture of her father -- my grandfather -- taken when he was about four dressed in one. They went out of style during the Great Depression in the U.S. Zatch's is unusual in that it is sleeveless.

I really like Zatch Bell and some episodes are quite sad, but I cry for just about any "sad" thing in any movie, show, book, or life. As for the 'demonic creatures' they are called mamodos(sp?).

wow thx for the info, i was totally wondering what those shenanigans were about, but that clears it up. somehow i thought that zatch was just being weird, not like he ever is normally :P

I see like every five episodes, it's funny, and the action's pretty good, till it gets all mushy. That, for me, is the downfall for any anime. a little mushy, okay, no mushy, would probably improve a lot of anime, too much mushy, ech.

You guys hear about the zatchbell video game for the PS2? I have been playing it alot recently and really enjoying the crazy battles you can have :) Anyway guys check out the game, its pretty fun.

I played the game yesterday for a bit, it's okay - neither as complicated as something like soulcalibur or as tactical as something like tekken. The range is, as the reviewer wrote, an interesting novelty.

I would think that even though it is a dress, you have to think of it in"Little Lord Fauntleroy" context. Maybe when they send a few people ahead to check out the state of the earth, they came to England 100 years before, and planned a costume/disguise to make the little maboma's unassuming. Little did they know that 100 years later, they look like little boys in dresses.

Speaking of Zatch Bell, does anyone know if anything else is gonna be made, or does it just end there? It's nice to see a good manga end at a place that it's supposed to end, and not continue on after killing immortal gods.
