What music or artists are really overrated?

The first thing that really comes to mind is COLDPLAY. Bloody Coldplay. They have so much potential, but Chris Martin seems intent on being more a celebrity than a musician. Which is something I'm not very fond of.

I think Mariah Carrey (that's not how you spell it, is it) is overrated. :heh:

Yeah rap is.... overrated. But I feel that it can be very nice sounding depending on the intellect of the artist... Anyways I say that beetohvens fur elise is overrated. I mean you know that song as soon as your born its so cliche'. And then it seems to be the only thing people who dont play piano want to hear from a person who does play piano. Get off his nuts!!! The dude was freakin deaf... Its not that good

Linkin Park, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, any of the type. Why worship music that seems to make the world seem darker than it already is? Not to mention their bland fomuletic pop songs, 4/4 time is getting fucking old.

Simple Plan's singer got hit in the head with a plastic water bottle while performing and had to cancel the gig. At their home town. At a charity concert.

Those arnt over rated! I may not like any of them to, but it depend on each persons taste. There are many thing that you may think are super, but other think is over rated.

You want to go conduct a orchestra and compose music but not be able to hear what you composed or what you conducted? because in my opinion i think that's the most incredible thing one can do. I love Beethoven as a composer, but think that the Fur Elise is overrated and overplayed. That's all.

I wasnt dissing him at all... I feel as though people go overboard on FUR ELISE, as for beetohven I understand what he did... Good job! I just dont think that everyone should stay on what he did,more on the lines of that song to be more specific.... There are other songs out there!

Green Day is probably the leading punk band in the world. I think they go against a lot of the principles of classic punk though. They're sellouts, for example.

And yes, all poser bands who rely on style more than substance. The Killers, Franz Fernidand (a little bit, they have great potential) and the such. Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears were lucky they were gifted with a "good" voice and big boobs. Sheesh.

Overrated musicians, quite a few come to mind. Kaiser Chief's - sorry to anyone who adores them. I simply can't see what's so brilliant, they just copy other musicians. Franz Ferdinand, The Darkness and sometimes Coldplay. It has to be said that Chris Martin is more concerned with his public image than his music, so he kind of drags down the rest of the band. Don't even get me started on The Darkness's Justin Hawkins, King of British rock and roll? More like Queen of Britain.

Green Day has stated multiple times at awward shows and on MTV that they are not punk, but rock..Sheez people get it right.

I bet they don't even have a clue of what they are. I also agree that Green Day is overrated.

Hmm, perhaps Coldplay are more popular than Greenday here in the UK but not in the US.
Greenday nowadays are terrible. Wake Me Up When September Ends is an ok song though. But Greenday in the old days when they were PUNK, they were pretty good. I've never really been a big fan of theirs though.

Overrated bands: The Gorillaz (Dieee!!!), Coldplay, Backstreet Boys (Pretty boy band, no talent, they just have fixed up voices), Greenday (Overrated, and the vast majority of their songs suck. They are a 1 hit wonder on each album), Good Charlotte (They are a wanna-be-punk-badass band), Simple plan, Jessica Simpson & Hillary Duff (Both are just getting their voice fixed up, but sing because they are "hot".)
