Okay so we have a problem with our floppy. I'm currently at computer class and in a group trying to get a computer to boot from a diskette.

Whenever we startup, the lights go on and never shuts down (on the floppy). When we try to boot with it, the computer doesn't recognize the floppy, and tries to boot from the CD-ROM instead (which we are not using to boot with)

Does anyone know what to do about this? We have about 2 hours to go, so please give me some insight. We've already tried changing the floppy, Harddrive and some related cables.

Thanks,

hmm... i think that the most likely thing that this is is that the compy is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive first and possibly never from the floppy. Have you tried to change the BIOS settings and so it boots from the floppy before the CD-ROM drive? make sure that booting from your hard drive is still on the boot list, but after booting from the floppy, just in case

if that doesn't work, i have other things that i have thought of that could be the problem:

other things:
- have you tried to put in a different floppy, just to make sure it isn't the disk
- this can be happen if the cable that connects the floppy drive to the motherboard is put in the wrong way at the drive end

if these don't work, i'll keep on thinking... ^_^

We've tried all that. We pretty much changed everything related. The cables are not inserted the wrong way. We have tried them on in all possible ways.

Although we did fuck around much inside the case.. Ah, thanks for the help anyways : /

Alright, we figured it out. We simply replaced the harddrive (for the 4th time..) to a SATA. Then it worked =]
