Stagnant. Stagnant, stagnant, stagnant.

Demeaning yet somewhat catchy rap with degrading lyrics rule the charts. Pop music that many composers on this forum coud come up with. Punk rock bands who don't live up to the legacy of punk rock, or what it stands for. Fusions being created, their creators with a big grin on their faces thinking that they are pioneers. Rap/Rock, anybody? New artists butchering old songs with covers, Gwen Stefani, anybody?

Then in rolls a quirky little animated frog who bowls over the competition with only a few words to say. Ding ding, bahh bahh....WHEE!!!!! etc. etc.

Our generation sucks.

I hate MTV.

Discuss.

Agreeing with Clockwerk- "Our generation sucks."

Too many re-makes, very sucky ones at that...

The sad thing is that there will probably be no real discussion about this. Have in mind that most people here dislike the music MTV is showing, and those who like it don't want to post here because everyone is saying otherwise.

Now that I think about it, "Our generation sucks" is a false statement. Who is responsible for our generation of music? There are tons and tons of masterpieces being composed every year, but they aren't necessarily heard. I blame MTV. Yes I do, I blame them for enclouding peoples' vision. They, along with other similiar companies, are the ones who choose what we listen to. This is what creates mainstream. So saying that our generation sucks because of that isn't really true.

There ain't nothing like the classics: Beatles, Eagles, Led Zepplin, Metallica, etc....

Some of the music of our generation isn't bad, I just don't have a taste for it, and apparently neither do most of you (if not all). It what Noir7 says, its overrated and overheard.

The worst part about MTV is that its 25-30% music, 70-75% commercial. I don't want to see any damn commercials, where's the music baby!

You cant really say rap is bad. You also cant say its all profain if you have.

Have you herd of RUN DMC? They were the first main-streem rap group in the world. Well, they never talked about sex, drugs or adult subjects. All of their songs were comical.

And how dare you say our generation sucks. Look back into the time of Elvis. He stole black peoples wa of music, and the adults then even went as far as saying his music was the devils music.

And now he is concidered a great musician by some. I personaly hate his music. But does that mean it ends up obsoleat and I have to make a thread about how much I hate Elvis?

Also, take Lang Lang into concideration. He is a pianist of 23, and has made record by selling out tickets at world famous music halls. To say our generation sucks is to say one of histories greatest concert pianist sucks.

I have to agree with Sond, nothing sucks, its just up to taste. I can still say I dont like Elvis once again, for his music is stolen from the blacks and brought to seem like a white persons music. I hate it when people steal peoples music an say its their! Its un-original and un-creative.

Which one gives more emotions?
1) The prostatue died
2) The bitch got fucked, shot in her head after she banged banged banged

I will go with 2. If you dont like it, dont listen. I dont like Beetoven, and that doesnt mean I have to get his music shoved in my face and have to listen to it.

I live in America, so "majority rules." That would mean my generation does suck. :\

I don't think the average MTV worshipper has even heard of Lang Lang. I'm not saying this WHOLE generation sucks, I mean the mainstream scene of it.

I don't listen to rap either, I'm just puzzled to why it dominates the charts the way it does.

And our mainstream scene just pales in comparison from other generations. We don't have any great innovators, so what if Lang Lang can play the piano really well? Does that make him a pioneer? We've just got these stream of bands and rap artists who all sound the same.

-_- I can't listen to the radio anymore... That's not to say it's all mainstream, and it all sucks, some of today's music is great! (heh.. Can't think of any examples at the moment XP) Which may or may not be proving a point -_-;

Then again I've always liked classical much more than the stuff you get on MTV and most radio stations, like a few people have said, it's all a matter of taste.

This is exactly why Oingo Boingo needs to reform. Their insurmountable oddity is EXACTLY what we need. >_>

On the other hand, there actually is SOME good music out there. Maroon 5, for instance, did some things that I never heard before in popular music, and because of this, "She Will Be Loved" is one of my favorite pop songs. >_> Another good artist is Vanessa Carlton. I haven't heard a lot of her stuff, but "A Thousand Miles" has a magical effect on me. ^^; I also really liked Five for Fighting's single "100 Years". Also, I automatically commend any pop artist/band if he/she/they write/writes something that ISN'T in 4/4 metre (note the continuity of backslashes). XD You can tell I'm hyper, can't you?

So yeah... There's some pretty good stuff out there, you just have to look. :|

I'd like to see more instrumental music enter mainstream. Then again, not everybody likes tonality.

Rap should shoot off into a "rhythmic poetry" direction and stop it's deathgrip on mainstream music so that the more harmonically ambitious have a chance to jump in.

Of course, I listen almost exclusively to classical music, but I can't help hearing mainstream music some places.

Curious to know what that was?

Agreed.
