I was reading an artical in Nintendo Power about 2D and 3D games. Which do you perfer more? And why?

I myself perfer 2D over 3D, because im a hardcore RP gamer, and RPG's are just better in 2D.

NOTE If you see clockwerk anywhere in this thread, posting about the death of 2D fighting games, yell at him a little, okay?

clockwerk is banned for 24 hours. Any more of that shit and I'll ban you for good.

To everyone else: don't be retarded. Being retarded will only result in giving us reason to ban you (and so will other forums).

On topic.... it depends on the games. I'll take 2D for fighting (classic fighting games such as SF and KOF), and 3D for everything else.... 3D fighting games just doesn't do it for me. But then again, I don't play games anymore. :P

2D Fighting > 3D Fighting, that is obvious...

RPGs... well this is a hard one... :\ It's all down to how much work is put into it... If it's a good effort in 3D, then it will be liked, and considered greater than some 2D RPGs, but some 2D RPGs have more likeability due to the more simple areas, and will be considered greater than 3D RPGs etc...

3D fighting is cool. I played DOA Ultimate the other day and loved it <3 the characters actually respond when you press a button, unlike most 3D fighters where it takes them half an hour to carry out an animation and then do something.

I also don't mind 3D RPG's. Okay, so the better ones (FF6, Seiken Densetsu 3, Chrono Trigger, Lufia 1&2) happen to be 2D but that's just because those games own, not because they are 2D. RPG's nowadays simply aren't what they are supposed to be (especially those overrated FF series after 7, though 9 was enjoyable cos it was a lot like the old 2D ones).

Shooters have to be in 3D, I don't like the games where you control a little airship from a top-down view. Actually, any kind of action game works best in 3D I reckon.

I don't really care whether a game is 2D or 3D, as long as the game is fun it doesn't even really matter.

i think that 3D RPGs are a good thing. 2D ones are also really good, but are harder to make really... good. but in some cases, 2D is good, other times, 3D is better. all depends on the game, really

personally i like 3D RPGs, i've sold my gaming soul to Squaresoft/Square Enix and their FF and Star Ocean series. but i also like the classic 2D fighting games like street fighter and MK, but i much perfer 3D

It depends really. For RPG games, it must have a good plot, characters, battle system and decent music. Suikoden 2 is one of the best games I've ever played and that's 2D, why is it one of my favourite games you ask? It's got 108 characters in total and almost all of them are memorable, good battle system, definately a good plot and it has good music.
Then we move to Final Fantasy 7, the first 3D Final Fantasy game....that had everything an RPG game needed IMO.

As for 2D fighting games, I'm not a beat'em up fan but I do play a bit of Street Fighter Alpa 3, Third Strike, Marvel vs Capcom, SNK Vs Capcom, Samurai Showdown and a few King of Fighters.
For 3D beat'em ups I only like DOAU, Tekken 3, Tekken Tag, Tekken 5 and Virtua Fighter 4.

I like 2D and 3D games equal, I need them both ;p

Finaly, a FF9 supporter. Ive only found FF9 haters :/

Actualy, I think some 3D RPG's are okay, such as Chrono Cross. But others are crap, such as Final Fantasy X. It had the right conspet of a FF game, but the gameplay was really bad. Almost as bad as the Junction system.

I tihnk the best RPG's are 2D in an isometric veiw. You can get the best 2D detail with it in an isometic veiw ;)

~~

As a final note, Castlevania is a good example of a great 2D game.

To me, graphics dont matter as long as its enjoyable. But some RPG's have to be 3D cause 2D Rpg's hurt ma head. Looking at da same colorful screem for 2 hours straight gives me quite a bit of migraines....Ex: Dragon Warrior 7
