Your favourite songs and why they are so great.
My list in no particular order, with a very vague explanation.
Radiohead - Let Down
My favourite song of all time. Cryptic lyrics in which I am yet to understand, but Yorke says it's more of a personal thing. The overlapping at the end is just absolutely gorgeous and gets me every time.
The Beatles - A Day In The Life
Pinnacle of what McCartney and Lennon could achieve. Lennon's dreary verses, coupled with McCartney's rather comical take on everyday life strike an unparalleled unison.
Radiohead - The National Anthem
This song is just perfect in my eyes. The brilliant yet simple bass line and the smutty, unpolished feel of it. Then the brass comes in and cuts through it cleanly. Amazing.
Jeff Buckley - Mojo Pin
Such a suffocating song, yet so delicate and sly. The speed-up and slowdown of the drums with Buckley's voice makes me choke.
Elliott Smith - Between The Bars
All the emo bands of today could never be as honest as Smith was. Between the Bars is something that would make a drunk English brute break down and cry in the middle of the night.
Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky
Raw power. Nuff said.
Miles Davis - So What
Bass line is awesome, and the piano is charming.
The Velvet Underground w/ Nico - Femme Fatale
The unrefined Velvet Underground melody with Nico's exasperating, dry as a desert voice work well. This is my favourite example of that.
