could anyone give this lowly piccolo/flute player tips on playing louder on the flute and piccolo? My band director (and my coach) always tell me to play louder (they can't hear the pic over the rest of the band...impossible huh ) Anyhoo blowing harder doesn't work because i split the octave...that never sounds right...

otherwise are there other tips on playing the flute/pic you know?

Keyword: Breath support. But remember, never louder than lovely.

You might want to try making your softs softer so you have that contrast that you need between piano and forte.

from my short experience of playing flute, i realized that there is a particular place you have to blow on in order to have a GOOD quality of sound. That's the part you want to blow on if you want a louder sound. because sometimes while i hold a note, i adjust my flute and the sound sometimes gets louder and softer depending on the adjustment. I hope that help

Find your focus. Find the "sweet spot" of the breath hole.
