ok on friday i had my first actual converstion in japnese. its wasnt very good.

Me:(holding up a game) ikura desu ka?
Clerk: go ju yen
Me: takai!!!!!!!!!
clerk:( gives me a frown and goes into a lengthy explanation of why his store is cheaper then most and at the end asks me :anata wa nihonjin?
Me: iie boku chugokujin
clerk: o (and says many other thigns really fast.)

Translation:
Me: How much is this?
Clerk: 50 yen
Me: Expensive!
Clerk: blah blah.... are you Japanese?
Me: No, I'm Chinese.
Clerk: Oh.

Edit: Wait, isn't 50 yen equivalent to about 50 cents?

Edit again: Just so you know, I translated it because you're not supposed to have untranslated foreign text, say the rules, though I bet tons of other people knew what you were saying.

5,000 Yen is approx (little less) 50 USD

5000 yen would be "go sen yen."
