Discuss the show.

Personally I think it's god-awful. The way it makes popular culture references at every opportunity is annoying. The Simpsons relieds on popular culture too, but changes it enough to reveal the follys of it which makes it funny. Family Guy just pulls them out and expects it to be hilarious.

It just has those blast out do something stupid funny to grab cheap laughs. I'd say the best of it can only compare to the worst of the Simpsons. Director of the series Seth McFarlane came out and said Groening has lost it, which in my opinion is true, but as creator of that pretentious little show he has, he has absolutely no right to say that.

There are also a lot of similar plotlines which have been used in the Simpsons, only to be used in Family Guy a few years later. Ugh.

Along with the weak characters. Meg and Chris are not developed well, and just plain aren't funny.

I...

I think it's a good show...

I have seen similar plotlines to it and the Simpsons, though, but that's the writers' faults.

I watch it mainly for Stewie. He rules! Bow to him!

Chris and Meg aren't supposed to be funny imo. The real comedey is with Stewie, Peter, and Brian.

I personally like Family guy because its straight-up. I don't have to think to laugh, and I shouldn't when I relaxing at the tv. But I don't care for some of the more sex oriented jokes.

Egmont
October 10th, 2005, 06:42 pm
McFarlane himself does the voices for Stewie, Peter, and Brian. I thought that was pretty crazy.

Yes, especially during the parts where the only characters are Peter, Brian, and Stewie. I find it fascinating that he can switch between those different voices so quickly. (Though it's probably re-recorded, maybe...)

Egmont
October 10th, 2005, 09:17 pm
Yeah, they don't do it all in one take. It'd be impossible since there are parts when all three are talking (or even singing) at the same time.

Yes. Like the one time where Stewie was thinking what would happen if he was born into the olden times where everyone smart (or something, I can't remember...) And they just go back and forth: T
Stiew Griffin: The port is quite good.
Brian Griffin: Yes, quite good.
Chris Griffin: Indeed.
Peter Griffin: Most certainly.
Brian Griffin: What year is it?
Chris Griffin: '51.
Peter Griffin: Ah.
Stewie Griffin: Delectable.
Brian Griffin: Indeed.
Chris Griffin: Yes.
Peter Griffin: [Peter bursts into flames] Oh, dear.
Brian Griffin: What is it?
Peter Griffin: I spontaneously combusted.
Stewie Griffin: Oh, I am sorry.
Peter Griffin: Oh, it's quite all right. I've grown tired of living.
Stewie Griffin: Ah, very good then.
Chris Griffin: For the best.
Brian Griffin: Yes, indeed.
Stewie Griffin: Tsk-uh! Is it raining again?

That was great!

Old Stewie : Well, in the future we dont go to destanations for vacations, we go to diffrent times....
Stewie :Oh really?
Old Stewie : I went to visit Jesus last year. His powers were really exagerated..

(Not word for word)

Brian: I could really use a break. A vacation. I figure I could get in a few drinks before they kick me out.
Stewie: Oh... oh really? You need a vacation. You- because you are so busy. ...Say... how's that novel you've been working on? Getting interesting? You... you got a nice little story brewin' there? Got a good... beginning, middle, end? Nice... development of the characters? *Stewie's voice rising higher and higher* Made the story a little more enriching for the reader? A little more real? Got a good antagonist-protagonist exchange? Hm?
Oh no... you really need a vacation.

So far, I have never seen Chris actually in school. I've seen Meg in school, Stewie in Daycare, but not Chris...

In a vein attempt to actually like the show, I watched the credits, only, to my horror, see them try and recreate a scene from my favourite movie Trainspotting.

What was the most disturbing scene I have seen in film is now but a lame appropriation, done poorly by Family Guy.

Sigh.

Stewie: [to ticket agent] "Now listen to me..." [looks at agent's name tag]
"Jo-LENE. I've got an army to raise and I must get to Nicaragua. I require a window seat and an in-flight Happy Meal AND NO PICKLES. OH, GOD HELP YOU IF I FIND PICKLES."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Peter: Lois. You've got a sick mind.
Lois: Peter, I'm talking about making love.
Peter: Oh. I thought you wanted us to murder the children and harvest their organs for beer money.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Stewie: "Okay, I got it, I got it. If you cooked anymore slowly, you wouldn't need an egg timer, you need an egg calendar."
[laughs]
Stewie: "Oh, that's right, I went there."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Olivia: "You *are* the weakest link. Goodbye."
Stewie: "Aha ha ha. Oh, gosh that's funny. That's really funny. Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. 'You are the weakest link goodbye'. You know, I've never heard anyone make that joke before. Mmm. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference, reference that outside the program before. Because that's what she says on the show right? Isn't it? 'You are the weakest link goodbye'. And yet, you have taken that and used it out of context, to insult me in this everyday situation. God what a clever, smart girl you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. Mmm, that's so fresh too. Any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me while we're hitting these at the height of their popularity? Hmm? 'Cause... I'm here. God you're SO funny."

Smurf #1: Yo, Smurf, that party last night was freakin', Smurf!
Smurf #2: You bet your smurf it was!
Smurf #1: Hey, I saw you leaving with Smurfette.
Smurf #2: Yeah. Right when we left the party, she started smurfin' me.
Smurf #2: Shut the smurf up! Right in the smurfing parking lot?
Smurf #2: Oh, yeah.
Smurf #1: That's freakin' smurf!
Smurf #2: You betcha.
Smurf #1: Freakin' smurf.
