Does anyone have any tips on freestyling piano or any websites that would give tips on it?

What you really need to know is the scale, then evreything else is by ear. ;)
I love doing that! :P

Ask a jazz player.

My forte (I think). Learn some chord patterns and just play along using the notes of the scales making sure that you stick to the key-signature (even though you aren't reading music, you still have to stick with one). You can try and pop a tune in your head to accompany the chord pattern and try to play it. It should come naturally after a while. For jazz, you have to feel the music as well. Stick to the blues scale and chord pattern and try to conjure up something sophisticated yet simple to play in your head to make it sound good. Everything is by ear usually like marlon said. Also pick the style of what you want to play first. When you get better at it, you can switch between styles. Everything just falls into place when you get the hang of it and you will just freestyle without having to think. ^_^

Improvisation is also through practice so play a lot of random things and even if it doesn't sound good, try to fit each chords and notes to the right place. My best tip is use the black keys as a start off, because they are all harmonized. I can do freestyle with all black key XD XD. Once you master freestyling with them, add some white keys in it. I don't know, just my tip

Jazz is the easiest style to improvise in. Take chords 1, 4 and 5. Poke around with the Jazz scale and those four chords, and no matter what combination, it'll sound decent ^.^

that is true about jazz. just i can't figure out some of the ''be-bop'' ones whenever i mess around with some rythum. (can't spell it right, and im a musician :heh: )
well anyway, when i get a better recorder, ill show you guys my REAL style of playing. when i write stuff (im writing an impromptu atm) it's hard to put my real ability, since it's very rhapsodic.
