Hey everyone, got this idea about an hour ago. It's to post your piano's picture, and give us some details about it. Well, heres mine, (click the link)
http://xs52.xs.to/pics/05436/PDRM2321.JPG
Some details about it:
-Its an Acrosonic, made by Baldwin
-Has IVORY keys. Ivory > Anything thats on pianos now. Like plastic, ehh..
-Is very loud
-Looks a bit rough, but plays and all the keys work nicely
-Is out of tune; about +10/14 Sharp
-Used to be in our "long room." we had it at one end of the house, and since the floors were all wood, and the kitchen, dining room and living room is a ll conected, made the biggest bang:heh: . Now it's in my bedroom. :P
-Yea, what was on my "stand," or whatever you like to call it, it Chopin's Funeral march, and Fur Elise behind it
-On the left side of the Piano, is a Head shot thingy of Chopin. On the right, Beethoven
-I am messy, so my sheet music is piled on the piano, and on a corner on the ground to the left of it. Bad habbit. XD
I think this is it about mine. Post yours ;)

Heh, if your good at drawing, MAKE A SKETCH <3. Lol.. yea it's old. like i said the keys are made from ivory. obviously it's outlawed today. so it's also a piece of history. and when i said about 10-14 sharp, i lied. its about 7 sharp.

ooo interesting thread, i'll post my piano picture up later. (don't have the camera with me now)
cool piano, but ya old piano tend to be out of key. Hm...
My piano:
- Samick (Korean made)
- 2nd hand piano
- High quality polished hardwood (that's what the description of the piano says when we bought it)
- NOT ivory keys (don't really want ivory keys)
- Upright 46'' i believe (ya not that rich)
I think that's about it
TheIshter
October 30th, 2005, 09:56 pm
yeah, i know about not being rich. When i researched a steinway and sons piano(which is my favorite), and it cost a whoping $40,000! Some even goes to $ 100,000. Its a dream to own one. lol

we just can't compare that piano with our everyday life piano, some violin cost up to like $100,000.
Milchh
October 30th, 2005, 11:28 pm
yea, only out of tune, because it was supposed to be tuned... in 1988. lol so, its not because its old, just past it's tuning date. and we dont know if there is many piano tuners around. since everything's electronic now...

I think plastic over ivory becuase ivory gets a yellow hue over the years. Rotten teeth...
And...those head shots arnt shots..Their head bust...but who am I to complain?! I dont even have one T_T

With windex i suppose? XD But probebly not white like White
Milchh
November 3rd, 2005, 02:13 am
nope not perfectly white. i dont know, just at times on the real pianos made now, the plastic keys seem smaller. unless its like a grand or something.. same with a keybopard with weighted keys..
TheIshter
November 4th, 2005, 03:50 am
smaller? on like uprights, or something? but the pianos i played so far are baby grands, weighed keyboards, and uprights. Sometimes im confused on which is the original feel of the "real" pianos. But maybe the smaller keys are for begginers only?

hrmm.. my piano isnt too exciting.. its one of those normal ones
but my piano teacher had two grand pianos in his house
and i was amazed firstly at how he even would fit and get the piano through his door.. and secondly amazed at how much money he would have spent on it
it was cool though.. because when you are waiting for the other dude (the dude before me who was learning piano) you could muck around on the other grand piano.. so ya..
i feel sorry for the pianos that i touch though.. why? because i get MAJOR sweaty palms.. and so after i play for a bit the keys are nice and wet and i have to always wipe them down lol..
but there are songs that i play that lasts a while.. i obivously cant stop halfway through the song and wipe it down then continue..
so... i had to get use to wet slippery keys after a while lol...

Ah! My sister had that problem! But she went with my mother to do acupuncture, and after five weeks (ish?) of going there twice a week, she doesn't have that problem anymore. You should try it. Maybe it will also help you.
I have a Steinway & Sons Baby Grand Piano. Type L. The keys are really hard. I had the option to loosen them, but I thought that they would give me an advantage, because then I would be able to play easier on other pianos.

Nothing wrong with keyboards, if you hate them it shows that you're narrow minded and not very adaptive when it comes to playing instruments.

I didn't say I wouldn't own or play a keyboard, I'd say when it comes to a choice, it would come down to picking the real piano over a keyboard; You're not the one who thinks past the yellow line.

In the case of a violin... older is better. I think it's that way for most instruments; they get better with age.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v310/Kalile_Alako/Jessica/100_0324.jpg
Obviously mine's not a piano... my piano is in the second picture, though; the wooden panel is broken so you can see inside it. I climbed in there once, playing hide and seek when I was little. XD It used to be a player piano in a bar, and is suprisingly still in tune.
Anywho.
- My violin is my baby and my love.
- It is actually prettier than in the pictures; you can't see the details in the pictures.
-It is a Freidrick (sp?) Glass violin, and says "Fabrikat en Cremona 1736" on the label.
-It's a German violin, even though it says Cremona, and is over a hundred years old. (It wasn't made in 1736).
-It's worth over $3,000.
- A college professor that visited our class borrowed it to demonstrate something, and didn't want to give it back, even when our regular teacher gave his violin to the professor.
- I have a Wolf shoulder pad; very good, very expensive
- The bow is french (not pictured) and belonged to my private teacher's father.
- My private teacher offered to buy it back from me for $2,000. He was only half kidding.
There's my bragging about my lovely; my family doesn't have a whole lot of money, but my mom got it for me my sophomore year.
And I'm one of those creepy people who is perfectly happy rehearsing instead of dating, going to school, sleeping, or hanging out with friends. :P

<_< I like pianos, never played one before though, probably never will... Keyboards aren't second rate pianos, they are almost a completely different instrument, they are used differently from pianos. I'm a keyboardist and proud to be :P
The keyboard I own at the moment is OLD with a capital OLD, this thing is more like a child's toy than a keyboard, but at least it works... It's a Yamaha PSR-19 (http://www.bostonguitar.com/Merchant2/graphics/00000001/yamaha-psr-19.jpg) if that means anything to anyone, well you can see how dodgy it is XP... Can't wait til I finally buy my new keyboard! It's a Casio WK-3500 (http://world.casio.com/pacific/emi/high_grade/wk3500.html) I could get an even better keyboard but this one is for me XD... Would've bought it months ago but I'm almost cutting it short on cash for going to Japan ... So I go to the music store as often as I can to stare at it and play it when the sales assistant dude isn't hogging it... <_< I'm glad I'm not a pianist, cause there's no way in hell I'd be able to buy a piano in Japan to play, my host families would shoot me XD... *wonders how hard it would be to lug her keyboard around the airport/trainstation/Tokyo in general* No that would be a bad idea... It'd seem rude... I'll just have to go a month without playing then ask if they mind me buying a cheap second hand one... Can't go 10 months without playing XP
And I'll end my little rant here seeing as this is a PIANO thread not a keyboard one! Gomenne! ^^;

After that huge rant, nup, like I said my Yamaha is a toy, infact I'd probably get more out of my old toy piano. Can't play more than 4-5 keys at a time otherwise another note stops playing, no touch response, and above all it is absolutely crap for synth... The sound quality is absolutely shocking...-_-; Tis why I am so desperate to get my hands on that Casio. ^_^ When I get my hands on that I'll be playing alot of synth for sure, and my classical will sound much better as well XP I play lots of different types of music but mostly classical at the moment.

I miss my piano. I'll take a pic of it when I get home. :) At the moment, I have to walk to uni and book a practice room if I want to play, and some of the pianos aren't very good at all. But they have a very pretty harpsicord.

Due to space confines of my home and my parents utter disgust at how many instruments I have and can play (a trombone, oboe, Bb clarinet, Eb clarinet, alto saxophone, a guitar and a keyboard), I have a synth/keyboard. It's actually a pretty nice one, a Casio WK-3000 with plenty of fun buttons ^_~ I haven't really checked out pieces for a synth, I really don't know where to find them... But, it has the ability to play two instruments at once and doesn't need an amp to work... major issue- no pedals whatsoever.... I don't think the model has an attachment!! If I had a camera, I'd post the pic of it, I'll have to steal my friend's...

The next-smallest? have you heard of a Mini-Grand? They have like 76-8 keys, and looks like an "Infant Grand," as I called it. It was at some resturante, I asked what it was. I was surprized that there was something smaller than a Baby.
