OMFG I want one! I know I bashed the older gen-Ipods, but they wernt that good. But the current gen is...just WOW!

They are as thin as a pencil, and has a LED lit, full color screen. Nicely sized one too. But the Nano can burn in hell, what I want is the full sized one! It can hold 150 hours of videos! Thats just amasing for $300!

Oh holy god, if you pity this boy, you will drop an Ipod from the heavens into my room with the all fuzzy Ipod sock and docking station!

You bashed God in the religion thread as well.

The video iPod isn't as great as you think. The converting to what format the iPod can play is going to be a pain. I think the only things you'll be able to play are music video clips and TV shows from a few select stations.

iPods suck. From an electrical standpoint, the input/out capacitors are undersized, resulting in massive bass rolloff. The amp circuitry is noisy, and cannot manage a square wave without getting pulled all the way down at even a low impedance of 32 ohms, so the resulting waveform resembles a sawtooth wave. Not to mention a distortion of 0.49%, compared to say, the Zen's 0.05%, and the iRiver's 0.04%. The only halfway decent player hardware wise is the Shuffle, which strangely has a very good circuit compared to the other models. Oh, and the earbuds really, really suck.

From a commerical standpoint, the iPod is overhyped. It is a overpriced piece of bad engineering that owes its success to marketing hype and the "cool" factor of Macs. For the same storage, you could easily find a much better piece of hardware that's half the price. Much like Bose and Monster cable in that regard - they spend more on their marketing than engineering. Which always leads to below average quality and above average prices.

iPods are horrible. I regret buying one. 'Creative' products are much better and more value for money. In any case I'm sticking with my CD player for now. Crisp, clean audio for life.

I like my ipod mini ;p
But i really don't think CDs have better quality than MP3s to tell you the truth.
i ripped some songs from my albums and they sound TERRIBLE compared to my MP3s. The thing I hate about my ipod is the battery life!!, it dies in less a day! x.x

I use my Ipod mainly for the trip to the school which takes me roughly an hour, and i think Ipod will be less troublesome to switch songs than a CD player. Oh well I like my Ipod Mini.

My iPod seem to be working fine for me. The reason they are so popular i guess is because of their looks and how they set the standard for all mp3 hard drive players. And I would say the navigation is top notch.

The thing breaks easily though, the bottom left corner of the clickwheel has gone numb after about half a year. It's a fragile thing, mine's covered in scratches, I guess i shouldve bought a case. The earphones suck, but hey, they can be replaced. The battery life is pretty shocking as well.

I use an RCA Lyra that I got at K-Mart for $60. I loaded 64Mb of my favorites into it and put everything else onto 128Mb Flash cards. Works for me...

Good, you noticed. Well, I ment it as a joke.

Well, from a fad's standpoint, Ipods are great. But after some more research, I would rather have an ARCHOS jukebox or a Creative Zen. I was opting for a Creative Zen or a Mini-disk player and bashing the Ipod for a while, but now I think the newer gen Ipods are sexy..PSP sexy...

They didn't set the standard. The Nomad Jukeboxes did. iPods are just marketed better.

Yea. Walk to 100 people and ask if they heard of a company named Nomad. Then ask if they heard of a company named Apple.

Some people have such thick heads that they would have an iPod and brag about it, but not know that Apple made it.

*preforms jedi mindtrick* You do not want an iPod.

You want a JetAudio iAudio X5L (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16855603827). It is superior in all ways (well... Except for MP3 tagging, which is non existent in all JetAudios)

Thus the iPod being the first hd mp3 player to truly hit the public's eye.
Even so, any hd mp3 player released nowadays always finds itself being compared to the iPod.

Actually, Nomad is what Creative call their MP3 players. Creative is pretty well-known in game audio, though.

clockwerk: I wouldn't say the iPod was the first to hit the public eye. The jukeboxes were known before that, but they were sort of an niche item - storage capacity was relatively small (~6GB), and they were about the size of a CD player, so the mass market didn't really pay a lot of attention to them. Oh, and they were pretty expensive.

iPod is pretty cool, but i am just a bit cautous about their "battery", that internal one where you have to pay to get it replaced or soemthing? x_X

but besides that i would so want an ipod nano, but the my friend said they sanp easily lol, so i think i might just get an ipod mini lol, it is small and it has pretty nice storage capacity...i dun really need 40Gb anyway. and they look pretty trendy xD (the minis that is) but the nano is jsut cool lol. too freaked to by a nano since i am scared i might drop/break/snap/lose it lol.

Low SNR, possible noise, distortion, and bad frequency response. That thing is meant to play videos. The X5L will trounce it in music reproduction.

Fine, but theres another handheld that was actualy in the guinness world record book of '06, and If I remember, it cost a few thousands of dollards. And thats not what it was in the book for, it was in for being the most powerfull portable music/video player. When I remember the name, ill post it...

@WRider

Well, the Nano and all other Ipods have the steel internal frame. Unless you are either (1) morbidly obease and sit on it, or (2) try to break it with bad intentions, I know youll be fine.

~

Also, the only problem with the Nano construction wize is it scratches VERY easly.

If I rember correctly that was one of the earlier gens of I-pod where there was a problem of sorts that killed the battery.
And from what I've been hearing there are some problems with the nanos' screens not working.

Personaly I just wouldn't have enough music to fill it but I still love what was printed on the nanos' tamper seal:
"Don't steal music"

No, it's a problem with a) the properties of lithium ion batteries and b) the design of the iPod. See, rechargeable lithium ion batteries aren't built to last - as they are drained and recharged, their ability to hold charge drops. With the iPod, in order to make it "look good" and "stylish", etc, they have to sacrifice the capacity of the battery in order to reduce its size. Now you have a smaller battery that needs to go through more drain/recharge cycles in a time period compared to the batteries of other players. See the problem?

Dosnt Lithium batteries have 'battery-memory'? Its like when you dont charge it alot, it loses the amont of energy it can hold over time?

Sinbios
November 5th, 2005, 02:50 am
No. That was a problem of Nickel-Cadium cells. Lithium batteries have a different problem; if you drain it all the way down, you may not be able to charge as much as before. Regardless, draining and recharging cycles reduce the life of Li-Ion batteries.

"Ipoods" are no good! There are equal if not better music players out there that cost less, the "Ipoods" are just more popular, and they have other companies that make things that are compadable with it, sutch as cars and Alarm Clocks, but there are better one out there

^tru dat :)

needs and wants. ipods just looks nice with some touch wheel that cost more. apple then comes out with all these outrageous add-ons (halloween costumes) to make more money from ipods. afterall it's just an mp3player, a fancy one at best.
