well these are three of my favourites:
1. hero´s song- just strings here...
2. inside the beast- fully orchestrated
3. The Finishing Blow- hardcore action! a boss-theme for a megaman-like game...

If you want to use any of my songs in a game or something just ask!

As you've posted quite a bit of pieces at once, I'll just comment on the last three.

Hero's Song: Interesting take on a "hero" theme; has a sort of medieval knight feel. It'd be nice if you developed the theme some more, and added a countersection.

Inside the Beast: Sounds rather comical to me - It'd probably fit quite well for a light-hearted like Disgaea.

The finishing blow - It's not uninteresting, but feels somewhat "lifeless" - if you add some modulation/pitch bend, and some dynamic variation in general, it'd probably sound more intense.

well the thing is I cant pitchbend or modulate:cry:
and the dynamic... I think its dynamic, others will have to decide on that one

Wow. You've got good RPG music going here. I can't do backgrounds like that. Something I'm still working on. My favorite song was the Mini game one. It matched the title and didn't get boring. It would fit right in a mini game.

"Inside the Beast" sounded like something Rareware would make! It was wierd.

One thing I thought all your songs lacked was a good melody. I loved the backgrounds a lot but the melodies were never catchy or memorable and at times some of them sounded alittle random. Try taking abit more time on them.
Other than that, I loved the songs.

If we were to have another CMA (or whatever it's called) where we double up, I think you and I would be the perfect combination.^_^

I liked the first one quite a bit. The seond one I felt the background drowned out the melody. Other than that it was pretty good too.

Post something with a pan flute! Do you have any songs like that?

The first piano piece was ok. sounded like a few familiar songs (not saying it was a rip off of them).

the second one, i didnt get much of a waltz from it. but it was new. instead of doing the base note of something, then a 2 note chord, your did something a little different. i like how that was a different sounding melody..

here is a song named "enemy territory" I´ve tried to make song to a game like Red Alert or Command and Conquer... oh it was done in less than an hour so dont be too harsh on me

the other one "platform 2" is for a megaman type of game, funny i feel like I have posted this song before in that case tell me

The road back: this is the first song i produced after being mute for a year,music-wise that is.

Harmony: one of the most beautifull songs i´ve made I think, it has no melody to speak of but its beautiull anyways...dont you think?@_@

Demonic Wyvern

Enemy territory WOULD go well in a Red Alert type of game. I kept picturing that before I saw what you wrote about it.

Platform 2 sounds like it would fit into a Megaman kind of game or a Super Nes racing game. It would also fit very well into Flash Flash Revolution.(I don't know if you've ever played that game.) I liked this one because of that.

The road back: I like how you could hear the melody in this one. A few of your songs sometimes drown it out. It was pretty good. Wasn't very memorable though.

Harmony: I really don't know what to say about this one. :heh:

this would make me so happy!^.^

Battle Energy - There are some neat ideas in this piece, though they feel underdeveloped. The harmony and counterpoint are pretty sparse, and the phrasing doesn't connected perfectly. The mp3 version has some balance issues (everything is too "in your face"), though that might just be the orchestration (too much mids and trebel, lack of bass). Overall, this piece feels more like a sketch than a complete portrait.

Boss - In a complete contrast to the previous piece, the bass is very prevalent in this piece, to the point of being overpowering at times (for the 2nd section). It also seems that the alto sax is playing higher than it really should be (soprano sax would probably be more appropriate, unless you specifically want the texture that you hear in your synth). The piece has a pretty driving feel, though it has a rather inprecise feel to it. More polish and refinement would do it well.

No Chance of Winning - Nice job with the velocity variety in the drums and strings; this piece feels a lot more "alive" than your other ones because of such. The orchestration is pretty dynamic too, with the expressive points nice and full, while the other parts having a light but more tense feel. The only thing I can pick at is that the "melody" on the piano part is somewhat ambiguous, and doesn't particularly flow that well. Otherwise, this is a very solid piece. Good job.

Winner - Not much to say here, really; this sounds more or less like your typical victory theme: cheery and repetitive. I did kind of like the chord progression, though.

Though I haven't heard all of your pieces (or even the greater majority), I have to say that my favorite so far is "No Chance Of Wining" - it sounds like you've put a lot more effort in this piece than many of your others, and the style is one that's also more agreeable to me. Hope to see more like it in the future.

I think I might be cursed.... the pieces that i take some time with and really think, those are the ones most people find to be less thought through... but hey its the ones listening who have to decide on whats good or... not so good.

oh, and thanks for taking the time to write all those words man, appreciate it.

Edit: The counterpoint is not just sparse in "Battle Energy" there is no counterpoint in it at all... counterpoint is basicly when you take two separate melodies and put them on top of each other to make a whole. I didn´t find it necesary to mess things up more than necesary, the time signature and rythm does that fine by them selves, but that comment on the lack of bass, is good... got to do something about that.:heh:

I cant hold it back anymore... I just have to post this song, and dont be anxious about it, its harmless but very cool. it depicts an antivirus making its way through the computer and finding the virus...

Virus was really unique and I liked the whole style. I think you had succeed in the effect you want about the whole antivirus thing. I like the opening that intergrated really well into the song. Sorry but I can't post anything really that constructive.

I think you did a pretty good job on this song. I didn't like it that much ONLY because I have a preference towards songs with a clear melody. It was good though. Hope you understand what I mean.

btw, this would go good in a StarCraft like game!

Whiskey and Cigarettes
This one was fun, and though it was sort of slow to progress in my opinion, it was very cool in how you organized the chords. I think you should expand on that one.

Narcissus Mirroring
Wow, this was very cool, and I really liked the echoey feel! It definitely made me think of a mirror, though maybe not so much the story of Narcissus.

Mechanical
Interesting technoish feel...I'm not sure I'm quite as fond of this one, but more because of my personal taste than because of how well done it is, which is very.

Spanx, I just have to say that "whiskey and cigarettes" was an experiment with some new drumsounds... so I can understand your feelings about the piano, its just the same over and over, with some tiny adjustments here and there.

To be honest, it can't be a love song.

Your drums are pretty damn good I have to say. the lead-symph, delay LCR synthetics really make it feel like your submerged. The only criticsm I have (apart from the fact that it can't be a love song at all) is that there were certain bits near the end where I think you repeated yourself a bit to zealously. I reckon you could have got the violins to make a more dramatic atmosphere as if a whole schoal of fish suddenly parted and revealed a sunken ship or some spectacular corale which would be your climax. Nice ending.

Zarith
February 25th, 2006, 11:53 am
sorry, but if you're saying submerged is not a love song you're just listening to it wrong...
if you think about it as submerged in to love, in to the feeling, not in to water you might get it...
