ahem 1st post. hiya! XD yeah, im new to this community. So, let me share my story first.

----------------------------------------

im a high school student, and for the past years im really inclined in playing the piano. if i my memory bank serves me right, a fateful incident happened 3 years ago.

3 Years ago, while playing a game called Zelda: Oracle of Ages, a fire struck me. a fire that would soon flare up my
passion for music. it seems that the theme of Zelda got me.

then, i said to my mom, "hey, can i have some formal lessons regarding on musical instruments?"

"sure, why not".

"hmm, what would be your suggestion?"

"how about guitars?"

"guitars? nah."

"how about learning the piano?"

"piano? hmm, sure i'll try it"

after 1 week, my formal lessons begun.

well i gotta say my teacher is great, and i think she's in her late 40s

as time passes by, my love for music was growing

"FACE, EGBDF, ACEG, GBDFA", my teacher said

"what are you talking about? FACE? EGBDF? that's nonsense."

"nonsense? these 4 things will help you"

"FACE, EGBDF relates to the g-clef, the other 2 relates to the f-clef"

"FACE as in face, and EGBDF as in every good boy does fine, ACEG as in all cows eat grass
and GBDFA as in good boys does fine always"

"these are the notes in the staff", my teacher laughs

"ahh. pardon me for my foolishness"

well, we had a healthy relationship

i then learned the concepts, from accidentals to chords, symbols and their meanings.

after 1 year, i seemed to acquire the basic skills to play the piano

then 1 saturday, i went to her place for my usual sessions.

"mom in the hospital right now.", her son said

"why? did she visit someone?"

"umm, actually she fell, and had a head injury"

"aww, i guess there would be no lessons for today, well cya then, tell your mom that
i'll be praying for her fast recovery"

after 5 days, horrible news arrived

my teacher, after suffering a head injury she had complications, "comatose"

then she was taken by our Lord.

at that point, i felt helpless. then as the days went by, that fire within me began to be
extinguished

i was lost, and my interest shifted. i then became too much addicted to video games

i was an avid fan of ragnarok online, gunbound, ff series, tekken, dead or alive, megaman
zero 1,2,3,4, Golden Sun, and last but not the least, Zelda: minish cap

it was jan 2005, my interests then again shifted to music. i remembered my 1st rpg,
zelda.

"hmm, since im too much addicted in games, why not play the music of the game instead of
playing the game itself?

this is how i got flared up again, for the 2nd time.

i was then busy for the past months

i think last week, i was surfing the net and i found this site

"wow. anime and video game piano sheets"

--------------------------

well, that's it.my story kinda sux, but thats how i feel

can someone tell me what will i do next? i want to learn the piano again.
i don't want to have a new instructor. i want to learn the piano by myself

i think i will do some sight reading, but i dont know the techniques

can someone pls help me?

That is a very touching story, most unfortunate as well.

I know almost nothing about the piano specifically, but I do know the basic of music; theory etc. (Personally I play the violin)

To truly love music, you must strive constantly to try and do better, not give up if something becomes challenging, and i can't express enough how important practicing is. I'm sure your teacher would be sad if you just gave up. If she taught piano, then she had a true love for that paricular type of music, and wanted to pass that love and talent on to her students.
If you are addressing the idea of teaching yourself, that may be quite challenging, i think it would be best to try and find another instructor, but, that's just my personal view point. Like with any instrament, you must be prudent not to develop bad position, or habits when playing the instrament, it could seriously damgage your hands etc. At least for the violin. If you are hesitant about finding anothe instructor beacuse of what happened previously, then that is your personal decision, but i don't thnk your teacher would want her ordeal to cause that either.
Just follow what seems right to you, (listen to your heart, and maybe try praying about it to.)

I hope this helps, and good luck.
(Glad to see another Christen join the site) Way 2 go!!

Wow that story took my heart away
Hey I don't take piano lessons

I figured out everything myself without a book
I just listen to the song then there
Here is what you shud do well this is wat I do
Sing the song
Dont imagine tht ur playing the song
Feel it
First I figure out the keys or chords or watever
Then I practice
It takes me like 7 tries
Then I can play the whole song perfectly
Yeah you heard it PERFECTLY

I self taught myself too. It is possible but it's your decision. I know if I were in your position I would probably be alittle hesitant(sp?) about getting a new teacher. At the same time, it's important to move on.

Such a touching story

~

I did get formal lessons for about 5 years, but they did no good for me. I purly enjoy listening to it, and mainly remixing songs...

Awww

Learning on your own is nice though, thats what I did and I guess I got more satisfaction out of it because I did it all myself

But if you self taught yourself, you miss a lot of theory in some sense, looking at guidebooks aren't really that effective. But you gain lots of style because there won't be a right way to play the music or the express it.

I self taught myself for half a year without a teacher on piano, and I finally got a private teacher and I progressed twice almost three times as much. I have a great passion for the piano. Though, as a beginner, here is a VERY good tip that helped me a hell lot. If you know the tune you are trying to play, it is three times as easier to learn the notes. Some techniques for sight reading is, screw trying to read a note for C, chord of C, E, and G while you play the music. Read ahead and figure out what hand position you need to be in, or change into, and then instead of reading notes, pretend the the notes are the fingers you need to push down, not the key you need to hit.

I agree when what I think matches what someone else thinks. Duh!
