just wondering if anyone sways when they play piano...like sway bak and forth
coz i noticed my frend do it and at that time i was like a beginner piano player and i was like i dun wanna be like that and my frends like u will
and then one yr later i sway naturally without noing it...
is this normal? not that i dun like it or anything just that i thought it mite be soemthing every piano player does...:lol:

I do it when the music is all along the whole piano. Its how I reach the notes.

when the song is really good... or when i'm reaching for notes. Example of a song is... er.... Unmei from Hitsuji no Uta....

i do if it's a long song.

You do it to reach hey? lol, well if im improvising like a beethoven sonata, ill have the notes way at the bottom playing loudly, and the more top notes (3-4 Octave from middle c). but i dont have to stretch that much. i may have to lean in twoard the keys a little bit, but if im sitting up straight, it sucks lol.

i guess swaying is ok as long as you arent at a recital or something.......otherwise that would be retarded. :P

Do you mean side to side or back and forth? If you don't actually sway when you're playing a piece, then you need to become a better musician. If you sway whilst you're playing the music, it shows you understand the music (I'm refering to natural swaying, not forced). Also, it actually makes you look better than you are when you're auditioning.

If you think it's retarded watch a professional violin soloist play and then you'll see it's not.

speaking of swaying at a recital... one student in a recital i went to swayed like crazy and had his hands up over his heads... the problem is, the song is very freaking slow and doesn't feel emotional at all. And his movements were really forced.... Of course, I was LMAO'ing XDDD... under my breath though (;^;_;^;)

I sorta sway while playing piano...not too much though, guess it's because I'm newer at piano than guitar or violin.

I'm a strange one, I was thinking about how people move differently depending on what instrument they're playing just the other day XP

It's good to see someone swaying and moving around and stuff while they're playing without even realising it, it means they're very much into what they are playing. =S I don't think I've ever seen someone sway on purpose while playing piano/keyboard but I can imagine they'd look like complete dumbarses XP

Sometimes "swaying" helps to give you leverage, so yes, I do sway. I probably also sway during passionate songs, but not intentionally...

yeah i sway a bit i think, i think when you get into the music it doesn't really matter if you look like a fool :P
But i don't go all dramatic like the guy with his hands above his head :P
