The definitive thread. Think we know enough about them to try it out

I'm going to have to say none, at the moment.
But that might change with some more titles comming out.

Xbox 360 and Revolution for me. I will eventually get me a PS3 but only when it's cheaper, much cheaper. Getting Xbox360 on launch.

Xbox 360 launched last Tuesday.

I'll be just getting the Revolution. I'd rather have a bunch of games for one system than a bunch of systems with a few games.

I'm getting my 360 mid-December.

PDZ and Quake 4 look awesome on it and the XBL functions on the 360 are increadible! But seeing as MGS 4 is on the PS3... I have to get that too.

Yeah, in the US. UK gets it a week later. I hope my Xbox360 won't have any errors <_<

This (http://cube.ign.com/articles/670/670078p1.html) satisfied the fanboy in me.

I think it's the other way round ;p I'm not originally from the UK though.

Anyway, I've been looking at reviews for Perfect Dark Zero and it seems to have had so so reviews. Gamespot gave it a 9.0, IGN gave it a 8.4 and Team Xbox gave it an 8.8. I expected higher reviews for such a highly anticipated game. I'l just get Call of Duty 2 and Condemned on launch instead.

I saw the news and they were talking just today about there being errors with 360. :heh: Its over here in the US though. I'd check if its ok if I were you. They say it was expected too.

Its supposed to be really complicated or something.

I'm not getting anything. I'm comfortable with a PS1 and Nint64.

I'm mainly getting PDZ for its multiplayer on XBL (50 ppl in one game), sadly I don't think its singleplayer is gonna hold up against other launch titles.

Yeah, IGN said that the saving grace of PDZ is that it's the best FPS online in all of the launch titles. What I didn't like about the launch was that they were mostly ports/re-releases. Not very exciting. The two Rare titles and Condemned looked OK, but not enough to get me to spend 400+ dollars.

I'll be getting the Revolution fairly soon after it's launched and the Xbox2 (I call it this because 360 is stupid and there merely for consumer appeal) as soon as Too Human is released. PS3 will have to show me much more before it becomes worth considering.

As for that article you mentioned Pyramus, it's saving grace is that it was better than its counterparts on the PS3 and Xbox360 channels but it was still the same old journalistic dreck that IGN spews forth so very often. For reporters that wine about fanboys so often (Nintendo fanboys in particular) the editors there certainly sound like a bunch of schoolyard morons half the time. At least Matt on the Cube channel doesn't resort to pointless mudslinging most of the time.

I really pitty those who got a messed up 360, they spend hundered of dollars and wait for ages and it either over heats and crashes or just plain crashes. Yes, I know MS will pay for everything to fix it, and I mean everything, but god! MS was in a bit of a rush to bring the 360 out to alow such things to slip in that many of its systems..

even through my controller doubts im sure the revolution will be great. The PS3 is for a few fighting games and RPGs, cant stand alot of the stuff on the station

Ya, there aren't many games for the 360 only yet...

The sad truth is... if you are a Halo fan, you are stuck buying the 360...
...if you are a Final Fantasy fan or MGS fan, you are stuck buying the PS3...
...and if Nintendo owns your mind, then you are stuck buying the Revolution.

Pity my lost soul and empty wallet, for I am all three of these things...

Oh, yes! And they arnt roumors. People have let their 360 tip over and the disk slips around and many people had their $60 games scratched and other had theirs cracked.

FOR GOD SAKE BE CAREFULL!

Computers has left the console department far in the dust. Not only can a computer be upgraded and used for longer, but it also presents more realistic games with higher visual resolutions and sound reproductions. The only issue with computer games is the fact that most fighting games for the computer suck. Other than that, the computer takes the props

Egmont
December 4th, 2005, 07:27 pm
The thing I dislike about computer games is that a) visuals and sound are the only improvements, and b) you have to upgrade way more often to keep up with the changes requirements. I'd much rather have a console, whose upgrades you only have to buy once every 5 years or so, than have a perpetually upgrade-requiring system. Also, I prefer having a controler in my hand than using a mouse and keyboard. It's much simpler that way. Personal prefrence, I suppose...

Kozmo
December 4th, 2005, 09:38 pm
Well of course PCs are better for gaming and are more powerful visually, that's hardly debateable really. But not everyone knows a lot about computers and has the money to spend on countless of upgrades whereas a console has it all for you.

The reason I got an xbox360 was because of that, my PC sucks and I don't have the money on buying good upgrades, I'll just buy a whole new computer, but that's a long time away, I'll enjoy my Xbox 360 in the meantime.

duhh... methinks computers r expensive.

:\

pifish
December 4th, 2005, 10:11 pm
Expensive, but cool! Much more so if they're the kind that can play F.E.A.R. At high resolutions and still give you a good framerate, although to the best of my knowledge those things are a few months off.

RD
December 4th, 2005, 10:15 pm
Computer gaming is a WHOLE LOT cheeper then console gaming. The reason why is because with consoles to get your moneys worth you should get a multi-thousand dollar HD telly. But with PC gaming you can get a really good pre-built computer with a nice 21 incher (or a wide screen LSD if you prefer) for less then $400 USD.

Power to black friday.

pifish
December 4th, 2005, 10:41 pm
Pfft 21 inch, I don't see why anyone needs anything bigger than 17 inch.

Kozmo
December 5th, 2005, 08:16 pm
Actually, a high end PC would cost you around £900-1000 here. I'm not willing to pay that amount ;p
I'm just gona wait til I find a high end PC on sale or something, then I will make my move.

Those people that can handle games like F.E.A.R are damn lucky though.

RD
December 5th, 2005, 11:24 pm
You just need to look around. If you just want to get what you see, of course you will pay a lot. Thats why Black Friday is your best friend unless your a slow runner.

And the reason why someone would want a 21 inch is because they dont just surf the internet but play games on their PC. They probably want great resolution and picture quality too, which is why I would recomend a wide screen LSD instead of a giant 21 incher (those things are DEEP).

Why that would make sense if PC game sales came anywhere close to Console game sales, or if they were on the rise instead of the decline. Obviously there's a lot of people who like the console, whether it's for the more comfortable viewing environment, stress-free play experience (I personally enjoy knowing my game will work, and that it won't have horrible slowdown because my equipment is over a few months old), one time cost (again, upgrades are expensive) or superior close range multiplayer experience (4 player split-screen on a PC? I think not). Technology doesn't alone make a system.

Edit: Oh, and the controllers on a whole are much friendlier for games. Only FPS and RTS benefit significantly from the keyboard/mouse combo, and the mouse will have trouble competing with the revolution controller.

Computer Issues
--------------------

I cannot deny that PC gaming is more money that Console gaming (in the begining), but that's the price you pay for functionality & quality.

Cant stand a Keyboard/ Mouse combo? BUY A CONTROLER FOR YOUR COMPUTER (I'm getting sick of this comment really quick. You can buy controlers designed for the computer, or you can get a USB dongle that'll convert your favorate console controler to use as your computer controler. Hell, they now have the Xbox 360 controler designed by the first party for the computer).

Computer stats are outdated? My 4 year old computer is about the equivlent of the Xbox 360's hardware right now (to put this in prospective). PC games ususally go in 4 year loops (Much like a console update every 4 years, only the games still work, where as console's need Reverse-Compatablity) (Also when updating a computer it costs only about 300 dollars each 4 years (G card/ process switching on and off. My graphics card in my current maching is about 6 years old now, and it runs like a horse), with the occational 500 when you need a new motherboard or other non-preformace specific parts. That's about the same price for a console is it not?)

Oh CRAP! The games not working! I've never had this problem. Ever. The only things you ever have to worry about is keeping you computer clean and tidy (Firewall, anti-virus, defrag HD, error check HD, clean reg, exc) and make certain that your computer stats work with the game (CPU speed, amount of RAM, Graphics card apture(sp?), Sound Card (this one can usually be overlooked), and Windows version). If the game just so happens not to work, there are a number of sites out there that can help you and tech support numbers.

An added bonus to having a game on a computer is the fact that problems can be fixed with a Patch or download; not to mention you can get updates on the game and expantion packs; even create a new game using the technology provided (Prime example is UT2004's engine and Half-life/ Counterstrike mods).

Four players on one screen. Conserning FPS- That's just absurd! There is no form of stratigy(sp?). Ghosting is almost impossible to not do (you just look at the wrong spot and, OH CRAP that was the other teammate camping out at the top of the stage waiting for you to come out! What would you do in that situation?). Also, if you don't have a big screen tv, it's kinda hard to read your stats. I would much rather have my own screen with only my stats, and only my preferences availible only to me (Maybe I'm just selfish).

-----------------Conserning Fighting Games- Like in my orginal post, Fighting games always, ALWAYS, fall short on computers. There never was a good fighting game designed for the computer.

Ported videogames There is a reason why games that orginate from a console sucks on a computer (good example Halo). The games themselves are not properly adapted for computers. Very little code is changed when redesigning it (which is understandable. I'm not saying a programmer has to completely rewrite the game), when the code could be revised better and create a much smoother game. (GAH! I suck at explaing this one. Let's just say that console games are not designed for computer and vice-versa).

Also did I not mention that you can play any console game on the computer? Though it is not legal, you can do it; and it works quite well. I followed the 48 hour rule (not owned video game ROMs can be held on a hard drive for 48 hours without legal issues) and it played smoothly.

(Also, the way the Xbox 360 is right now, I dont think anyone wants it. Too many flaws. Wait for Revision 2 to come out (It'll be soon)).

Keyboard and mouse is the best thing for FPS games, it just feels perfect. But gaming on consoles are just as popular as PC gaming, and just wait for the PS3 to come out, if what Sony are saying is true, having a PS3 is just like having a high-end PC. Me? I personally don't give a shite ;p
