Now is your true chance to help me out...has anyone seen this series? If so was it good? I am considering watching it. So give me your thoughts and opinions please.....

I though it was great! As you probably already know, it's very graphic (lots of violence and blood) and has quite a lot of nudity. The content of the series is very shocking, but appropriate for the story and social environment of the anime. I suggest watching it subbed because Kouta's english voice annoys me for some reason. But that's just me.

Personally I liked Nanashi Fansubs Version (for no peticular reason other than to support the underdogs). And, People, DON'T FORGET TO DOWNLOAD EP 14!!! It adds quite a bit. Check it!

Ep 14? Is it also known as the OVA?

yea it is the ova. Elfen lied is a great series, but its extremely gory.
I loved it though and the song lilum grew on me as well, although I was quite upset because the long version of lilium that was played in the final episode with the piano solo bit isnt in any of the osts so i was quite dissapointed and upset

Elfen Lied is okay, but slightly overrated I think. It's mostly popular because of the extreme violence. The story's good but most people say it's good because of the violence, which is a shame.

If you don't like violence, stay away from this series because you won't enjoy it. If you don't mind violence which involves ripping people apart and you like a strong story (and don't mind annoying and mindless characters who can only say "nyuu" all the time) than you might enjoy it.

haha.. well i quite enjoyed it! well.. i REALLY enjoyed it lol
but yeah.. i liked it for its story.. and for a few scenes of violence XD haha
but i dunno, there was somthing about it that made it interesting.. how they developed the characters and stuff... and it was only 13eps.. well.. 14
but still.. i enjoyed it!
the song is really cool!

does anyone know what elfen lied means? because i have no idea... i must have missed somting or somthing...

and yeah.. my friend think its overated.. he HASNT EVEN WATCHED IT! he just took others opinions from one site and he just decided that it was overated.. and he wouldn even tell me why he thought it was overated.. he said he was scared it might hurt me or somthng?
i dunno, it was nice of him to care that he didn wanna hurt me... but i told him that i wouldn care on what he says, i just wanna know what he thinks.. but he never told me
and by him not tellin me is what hurt me most... coz we have been friends for a while now... like, over 10yrs.. bagh! anywayz... this has nothing to do with the anime lol.. sorry!

Obviously, Elfen Lied deals with human evolution. Supposedly, the Diclonius will create and become the new species of human, probably an even better one. Lucy seems to be the most important Diclonius in the anime. She perhaps was the first Diclonius and probably the one who was planned to lead the change. There is a German song called Elfenlied, which was based on a peom by Eduard Morike, that apparently appears in the manga. It doesn't appear in the anime, however, so I'm not exactly sure with their connection. I could probably look it up.

The opening song, Lilium, of the anime was supposed to sound like a Gregorian chant. It was based off of several biblical passages and the hymn, Ave mundi spes Maria (Hail Mary, Hope of the World).

Translation of Lilium:
The mouth of the Just shall meditate wisdom
And his tongue shall speak judgement (Psalm 37:30)
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation
For when he hath been proved he shall receive a crown of life (James 1:12)
Lord, Fire Divine, have mercy
O how holy, how serene, how benign
How pleasant, O lily of purity

You could probably find better information elsewhere. I actually got all of this from Wikipedia, which I hope is correct, seeing as it's written by anonymous persons.

EDIT: Found a webpage with Elfenlied in both German and English. http://www.jfuller.net/elfen.html

Okay well I started watching it and it is pretty interesting....as everyone said there is a lot of gore in it but I don't mind.........I am kinda undecided on whether I like it or not though.....I just think there are way too many boobs!
I don't wanna see em I don't need to see em just put them away!

Asrialys
December 10th, 2005, 10:07 pm
Well, you'll be seeing quite a bit of them, and then there's Nyuu's habit of fondling...

Anyway, the story really doesn't pick up until halfway through the series. If you get tired of all the unnecessary exposure, then just fast forward lol

M
December 20th, 2005, 12:28 am
But you see... The boobs/ nakedness in this anime are done in good taste (it doesn't form a solid distraction). As opposed to some of the H/ Hentai animes out there, this is nice and clean (kinda like a vector chopping off a guy's head).

They say that it is so violent that it can cause you to lose sleep for days. I have often tried to summon the courage to consider watching it, but have consistantly failed.

This serie is worth a 7/10

Umm the serie is nothing really special.

Few things to describe this serie:

- Lots of blood and bodyparts flying around

- Nyuu is another Chii(Chobits) rip-off, with another personality.

- Invisible hands that fight.

If you are really looking for something special, then this isn't what you're looking for, this show is okay.

People that just went from DBZ / Naruto to Elfen Lied will probably say it's the best show ever because of the ecchi parts in it and ofcourse the blood.

erhh... i never went from dbz/naturo to elfen lied....
i havnt seen many eps from both dbz and naruto! even though i have all the naruto eps sitting right here... i just havnt been bothered watching it...
anywayz.. my point is.... *looks around*

@eddy.. what? people actually said that after watching it you lose sleep for days? well... i dont think thats true.. but then again i guess everyone is different... but i say get up the courage and watch it.. its good! its not horrifying or anything... you dont see any scary looking people... all you see is arms flying off and blood splatter XD

and about this ecchi and blood and stuff.. okay, yes true, there is a lot of blood and arms and legs that fly around... and yes its true that you see nakedness... but why do people criticize this anime for? like erhh... its not liek its "american pie" or "dawn of the dead" or anything...

so erhh.. what am i gettin to here...erhh... umm.. but yeah, it may be violent, but its anime... its not liek its REAL legs and arms that are flying around...
i dunno... for those who are too scared to watch it because of what you have heard... just give it a try... atleast try to watch teh first episode.. and if the first ep was toooo much then stop... but i doubt that its too much

lol I'm not scared nor really criticising the show, but I'm just pointing out that lots of people tend to overrate this serie because of the nakedness, blood and the Chii rip-off.

Like I said this was an okay show, but I've seen lots of people that have only seen DBZ and Naruto before stepping over to Elfen Lied.

I don't really consider their opinion as valid, because of the following reasons:

1) A true anime-fan or one that has experience, looks for anime himself instead of just following the crowd.

2) They haven't seen enough shows to tell everybody wether it's a good show compared to others or not. <--- they usually tend to say it's "The best ever made."

3) Most of them are not even trying to look for another serie, they just wait for somebody to come over to their sites/forums whatever to come and tell them about the show so that the big group of sheep have another thing to watch.

ok let me say this then, im a true anime fan if thats what you would consider me as. I have over 120 gigabites of anime with well over 30 series. I ask people for opinions on anime on here because i know that they're right alot of the time.
I've watched elfen lied and although yea it has alot of blood and whatever its still a really good anime. as for nyuu being a rip off from chobits well you have abel being a rip off from vash in trigun for trinity blood. Trinity blood was still an awesome anime.

I know you say dont be a sheep but thats how you discover some of the best anime series, for example look at full metal alchemist, people rave on about it alot and just coz they do does'nt mean you should be like nah im not going to watch it.
instead i think there must be a reason as to why they are going on about it and thats how you discover things like fma and bleach

You know what I call that kind of fan?

Somebody that doesn't find out himself what to watch and just takes on what everybody is telling him to watch, in my eyes people like that are weak or lazy people.

They aren't real anime-fans so they don't have a valid opinion in my eyes.

You know why? Because I'm the type that looks into MYSELF, and don't let others tell me what to watch and what not, I watch what I want no matter what people say.

If you really like something, you would step out of the "familier place within the boundaries" (probably a forum in most cases) to explore the world of in this case "anime".

This is how I became a "true" fan:
I have seen some dubbed shows on television when I was younger and didn't know they were called anime before.

I went on Suprnova to check out stuff on a boring summer day, not knowing what anime was I started downloading "Onegai Twins (After few eps I found out about Teacher the prequel" and started watching.

At first it was kind of weird watching something with Japanese voices, but after a few episodes I got used to it.

After that I started to download more and more and found out that this is the "hobby of all hobby's" for me.

Sorry if I insult anybody with this post, but if you're like that "YOU FAIL!".

M

*M passed except for him rateing anime and suggesting which to watch (only because there not mainstream, ex Noein, Iraya no Sora, Solty Rei, Koi Kaze, and people tend to be too causious or waiting for someone to comment about them on deciding to download them or not)*
But this is not about Elfen Lied anymore... So...

Who else here want to have vectors? Because I do!

I have 2 things to say ;p

1) Opinions by sheep-fans, are "MOST-LIKELY" unreliable.

2) Opinions by other people, are unreliable.

Either way the opinion of anybody is unreliable, I totally liked Saikano and have a friend that totally dislikes it.

The show has a high rating though, so it's not a bad show... but if you don't like that kind of show you'll have a different opinion compared to somebody that does.

Because I think of this, I judge on myself wether I'm going to watch something or not.

Up to now I've only had 2 shows which I didn't like, they are too boring for me.

those are

- Parappa The Rapper
and
- Tetsujin 28-go (2004)

but then again that's my opinion, it's still pretty rare for me to dislike anime, I'm kinda carefree with what I watch.

Anyways I didn't finish these 2 shows yet since the fansubs aren't that far with them, but I will finish them, maybe my opinion will change or maybe it will not.

I'm not a quitter, some shows start off boring and end up being really fun.

Same with Maria-sama Ga Miteru, I thought it was boring because I had no idea what it was about, but after a few episodes it was more fun then I expected it to be and continued it and can't wait for the 3rd season coming :)

Oh yeah Sephiroth, I have over 1400 GB with around 600-700 series.

Note for MOD: sorry for going offtopic, please move the real off-topic posts to a new thread, thank you ^^.

*cough* otaku *cough*

Its like your on your SAT's and you ask your friend for the answer to number 65. You dont know if they are right, but you take their word for it.

Now, lets say Sephy and I have similar taste in animes and mangas. So if I recomend somthing to him, wouldnt it make sense for him to look into it and see if he likes? A recomendation is nothing more then that; no one if forcing you to watch what they say, its just a recomendation.

~

Now, Elfen lied isnt so great to me. The box art is what usualy catches my eye at first and gets to to dig into the show, but I expected more from the box art it self then what I got.

Then the anime. The story is good, and the nudity is in taste instead of some hentai crap, but the constant decapitation gets a bit dull.

FIRST DAY OF WATCHING
"Eww...His head exploaded!"

SECOND DAY OF WATCHING
"Wow! His arms went flying off! COOLIES!"

THIRD DAY OF WATCHING
"That happened 3 episiods ago ._. "

Why are you still posting here? Looking at your posts, it sounds like you're warning us from people like you, who tells their opinion, but also advocates not listening to opinions.

Besides, I'm sure that just about everyone here will watch an anime they're interested in, despite what other people say. That don't need someone telling them to not listen to the opinions of others. It's their decision alone whether or not they listen and whether or not they watch.

99% of the time people have a different opinion than you have, so if you listen to somebody that says it sucks and don't watch it, but if you did you would've liked it alot, it would be bad wouldn't it? :P

Too bad showing of your anime collection on the internet doesn't really get you anything. Personally, I'm not admiring you or anything, I'm more wondering where you get the time to watch all that. If you watch it. It's easy to download heaps of stuff, but do you actually watch it? And if you do, do you also have a social life and such?

Anyway, this topic is closed. Growing your digipenis using your anime collection has nothing to do with Elfen Lied.
