I had the pleasure of seeing this just a few days ago, and my God-- it was GOOD. If you have a basic knowledge of Oz (that means, having read the books or seen the movie), then the way this story intertwines with what has already been set in stone will amaze you.

It takes all of the ambiguities of the "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and makes something out of them: who was the Wicked Witch of the West? Was she really wicked at all? Was she ever friends with Glinda the Good? How did the Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion, and Tin Woodsman come along?

All through the musical there's charming little epithets from the movie that appear in the dialogue, such as "there's no place like home." Also, the music is very enjoyable, so I'd recommend it to anyone. ^^ I'm hoping for the book it's based on (Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West by Gregory Maguire).

I didn't like the way the book contridicted the orignal Wizard of Oz at all. Elphaba was a child of the Wizard? The way Dorothy was?

Please.

I liked the music. We did Defying Gravity for Marching band. I just don't like the story. The Wizard of Oz is so much better.

I have only read the book and I'm telling you if you're under 18 and not a fan of literature erotica then do not read the book and watch the musical because the book is mature as hell. I just read the book on a recommendation and I was amazed and also a little disgusted.

I am aware that the book was never intended for children, but the musical either toned down or completely left out the more suggestive themes in order to make it humorous and entertaining for all ages. I just got the 1st edition hardback of the book a few days ago, so I'm going to start reading it today.

I hear there's a sequel to Wicked. Son of a Witch I believe. Tell me, has anyone read it or would anyone recomend it? I'm curious to find out, but I don't want to waste my time if its not worth it.
