Anyone here play online chess, like on Yahoo! or Instant Chess? I was wondering if anyone would want to organize an Ichigo's Chess Tournamen or something. Just a thought. :D

If anyone plays on Yahoo!, I'm kookiez808 and I'm usually in the Intermediate Lounges.

I do play chess.. and in the very occasion, online, but then.. its not as fun as seeing the expression on the other guy's face the moment you fork his king and queen XD

if we're to have a tornament, sure i'm in.. but then yahoo chess?.. now where do i get that..

Yahoo! (http://www.yahoo.com)

It's under games. It's the most stable online chess place I've been to. You have any suggestions?

Kou

well.. if we get a respectable number of candidates.. like say.. 16, then we can have a knockout tornament.. if we get less, like say.. 6, then we can have round robin

I was actually asking about a place online to play chess besides Yahoo. The tournament will actually depend on the amount of people interested.

Kou

oh that, XD well no idea.. yahoo sounds okay

Hurm... well, I guess Yahoo is good for now unless someone has a better suggestion. Oh ya, my account froze for some reason so I'm reverting to my old account. If you're on yahoo, look for michaelyago.

If we get enough interest people (say like... 6) then I guess we can start a tournament. We can PM each other when I set the matches on what time would be best to challenge each other (we do live in different time zones). So... post your Yahoo sn and time zone I guess if you're interested.

It doesn't matter if you suck or not. This is meant to be a fun thing, something the Ichigo's community can do together other than post at the forums. If you're a terrible chess player, I do encourage you to register. Knowing how to play already puts you ahead of the game than others. For those who don't know how to play chess but would like to participate, I suggest you sign up and look at an online instruction manual for the game. It's also good practice to go to Instant Chess (http://www.instantchess.com) for some quick runs with some online users. You can also download lots of free chess games that are avaliable all over the net.

Besides, we need more people to start this. ^_^;;

I think I'll post the schedule some time next week. I'm going to match you up for the first two rounds based on your time zone. This will be a 2-round elimination (you lose two times, you're out). Piece color will be determined randomly. Once the schedule is annouced, you and your opponent are responsible for completing the match. Contact each other through whatever means necessary (PM, E-mail, Chat) and figure out the day and time the both of you can meet at Yahoo (and pick a room too) to challenge each other. When you're finished, BOTH PLAYERS MUST PM ME THEIR RESULTS. If the match is not completed, both players get a loss (unless of course there's a logical excuse). You'll have a week to complete a match, so there shouldn't really be a problem.

But for now, the thread is still open for more interested players. ^_^

They look good, I especially like the part about the week to complete a match. I know how chess can take forever to finish if the opponents are the same skill level.

so..........

any time limits or such?....

i hate playing long games...

servbot
July 5th, 2004, 07:08 am
time limits just lead to stale mates though...

i remember we had chess club druring lunch, and we'd always get interupted at the end o lunch, right in the middle of a match

I think 12 minutes with 3 seconds increments is good.

Deletemenow
July 6th, 2004, 05:46 am
I'll join! Just gotta create a sn for yahoo :boo:

michael
July 6th, 2004, 07:30 am
Alright, when you're ready, post your username and time zone. Two more days for more players then I'll post the schedule.

:: edit ::

I just noticed what servbot said. For time limits, each person gets 12 minutes each (with 3 second increments for net connection delay). If you run out of time, you automatically lose.

Kou

i'd suggest 15 minutes.. 12 is kind of in between a "quick game" and a proper game with some thoughts given to it..

michael
July 6th, 2004, 12:04 pm
15 minutes seem such a long time to me. Most people actually play 10 minutes... well... what do the rest of you guys say?

Kou
July 6th, 2004, 12:13 pm
well that 3 minutes don't mean a lot most of the time, but in the occasion where it flips the game.. i'm ok with 12.. i mostly play 6 minute games

This link is for the official posting of results.

This thread will be open for more suggestions and for more players for the next tournament (depending how well this one goes). Good luck!
