Childhood Memories
Sounds like a sad memory. I like this song a lot. It also got me wondering what the memory could be.... I got a few ideas.

A Night of Remembrence
I like this song a lot, too. It seemed happy aswell as sad. It was nice. It is also very relaxing. At times I felt like I was in China (or another Asian country) because of the style. Nice job. I like the use of the drums(?). Also, great ending!

i've finished composing 3 tracks today for my chinese album, Tales of Two Love Birds. They're titled "Sorrow", "Unforgettable Scenes" & "The Great War of China". "The Great War of China" is the track i love the most and most well-composed (according to my sister who plays organ too. ^^) in my Chinese album. However, i'm sad to say i wont post that track as i'm afraid of copyright thingy. Afraid ppl will steal other's compositions and turned into theirs. >.<. Save the best for the last. =p My chinese album is currently 50% completed. Might consider publishing the album once it's completed. ^^ Hope you'll like

Sorrow
I can't say I liked this song. It seemed.....empty. It felt like it was missing something or that it was incomplete.

Unforgetable Scenes
I like this song. It is nice slow and soft. I really like where it goes towards the middle of the song. Very nice. Quite short, though. Great ending!

Constaneum
December 30th, 2005, 12:25 pm
ahahah. well, not all music should have more than one instrument and played using both hands or what so ever. =p . I purposely make Sorrow sounds like that, a melody without any accompanies. =p

Journey to Yue Fei Town
Good job with the percussion! It really does help to ass a nice oriental feel to it.

Childhood Memories
It sounds very nice and calming. I'd maybe vary up (or simplify) the accompaniment strings in the background so that isn't doing the exact same thing the piano line is doing. I really like the melody though. It's very nice and reflective. It really does sound like a childhood memory. :)

A Night of Remembrance
This song is beautiful!!! Some parts are very moving and might even work wonderfully in a sad movie scene or something. I really love how it sounds so relaxing. The shrill notes at the end sort of hurt, but maybe that's because I'm usign headphones. Overall, I really love this piece!

Sorrow
It sounded a bit empty. As a stand-alone track, I didn't think that it was effective because the melody didn't really seem to affect me, but I'm sure it'll work wonderfully if used in a move/anime scene.

Unforgettable Scenes
Is this the same melody as Sorrow? Oh well. It's really pretty in this form. Ah! There's a surprise in the middle! I like how it just fits into the piece while adding some variation without completely sidetracking it.

My favorite pieces were Journey to Yue Fei Town and A Night of Remembrance. Overall, you did a wonderful job. Keep up the good work!

ahahahah. sorrow and unforgettable scenes sure have the same melody but just different style of playing. ahahah. anyway, new tracks from Tales of Two Love Birds album. Once this album is completed (currently it's 75% completed), i'll consider publishing it (hopefully world wide. ahahah). Here are the two tracks, "My Mind" and "A Walk In The Sakura Garden".

p/s: Wonder anyone of you will buy this album if it's published ? >.<

Journey to Yu Fei Town: I loved the melody and percussion. The ending really disappointed me, though. The energy that the percussion gave left me anticipating a great climax that never came. The energy was built up, but it was never released. Me sad. -_- But, still great.

Childhood Memories: Simple and beautiful. =D I love how the piano notes echoed so eerily after they were hit. ^_^ Made me actually wonder on what memory this could possibly be, and made me think of a bit of my own.

A Night of Remembrance: Sounds a bit Enya-like. Which is good, since I love Enya. =D This is gorgeous. I thought the timpani/gong could've used some melodic accompaniment, but it's all right as it is. Still beautiful. Loved the melody, the bass, and the instrument you chose for both.

These three pieces have a beautiful simplicity to them that makes me feel like a child again. Great style. ^_^

I'll be sure to listen to more of your pieces later. =D

Apollo XI
January 4th, 2006, 11:17 pm

This song is very calming and it seems to have a nice them to it. Your mind always this relaxed?

A walk in Sakura Garden
You must love those shooting star kinda noises, huh? This one is good, too. Calming. Try to use thoose shooting stars less. They get a bit annoying. I like the percussion you brought in the middle. Heh he! ^^; I bobbing my head! >.< I liked the ending aswell. Very nice!!!!!

BTW, I agree with Apollo. If I have the money I'll definately buy it! Maybe....

Toy Soldier ? LOL I guess so. AHAHAHAH. Anyway, new music from my anime album, Princess of Justice (Seigi no Hime). This is a battle music. It's called TENSE. :D Enjoy ! (it's kinda noisy when it reaches the electric guitar part. LOL =p =p ). I have to admit the melody of this track is kinda weird, especially the intro part. AHAHAHHA :heh: Actually, i'm trying to learn Yuki Kaijura's style for this anime album of mine. :D She's the female composer i love the most. ^^

ok ppl !!! NEW MUSIC from Princess of Justice (Seigi no Hime album). It's called Final Settlement. Actually, you've already listened to the original version of the track Final Settlement from the album but i've noticed that it's not suitable to be known as Final Settlement as the melody is too short. I renamed the original Final Settlement as Justice. So here's the real version of Final Settlement. Hope you'll like it. ^^ Btw, near the ending part of the track is the chorus part of the theme song. :D

p/s: After months of trials, i've finally made the correct version of "Reverse Cymbal". ^^

Adventure!!!!!!! I like the beggining use of precussion...As well as the second qauter percussion. How about I just say I like the percussion. I like this song because it was soft and it had a sense of adventure. *Bobs head* It is mainly a big road that the characters are walking I imagine....Like the one at the end of the KH game. Why not wait till the actual date to do so :P? Anyways, your new piece is a pretty decent piece I guess, though also pretty average too - again, there isn't anything majorly wrong with it, but there's also not too much stuff going on in the first place. Also, I've been wondering about these so-called "Albums" of yours - can you post one up actually, instead of just tracks?

i dont actually post my full album coz i havent finished the rest of the albums. I've only finished composing my chinese album, Tales of Two Love Birds which comprises of 21 tracks with a total running time of approx. 60mins. I dont intent to post all the tracks of a finish composed album as i'm afraid people might steal some of my compositions (i'm sure there are a few ppl who might do that), change the name of the composer and stated it's their work and bla bla bla which is kinda annoying. This tracked will be used in a strategy style battle where u have to plan properly on how to battle the enemies (like board game style :P ). For this track, i'm trying to learn Hitoshi Sakimoto's style. In case you dont know who he is, let me roughly tell u. :D He's the composer of Final Fantasy XII, Vagrat Story, Breath of Fire V and etc. He has lots of nice work. BTW for Battle with Gouryan Troops, it sounded like Pirates of the Caribean for a lot of it, and some of it sounded like Nobuo Uematsu, but not at all like John Williams. If you had used more un-technoey orchestration, it would have sounded more realistic. I've also noticed that for heroic themes and battles, John Williams often heavily exploits the brass section.

Constaneum
February 5th, 2006, 03:12 am
oooooooooooo. eheheheh. John Williams heavily exploits the brass section for heroic themes and battles eh? Didnt notice that. eheheh. Oh yeah, Battle with Gouryun Troops is mostly influenced by Pirates of The Carribean as Klaus Badelt is one of my fav movie composers. By the way, it's hard to use Music Softwares to make orchestral style music as the instruments dont really sound realistic enough. Just immagine and assume the instruments i used are orchestral instruments coz when i select the instruments, i mostly select instruments similar to orchestral instruments. Part of it sounds like Nobuo Uematsu's style ? Well, you know i'm a die hard fan of Nobuo Uematsu. I guess that final fantasy style is hard to be avoided. LOL It's like part of my composition style. I'm still learning John Williams' though. Oh yeah, What's Jade Empire? Never heard of it ? Izzit a game or a movie ?

Well, I agree with One Winged Angel's comment about your pieces sounding like "bad hollywood productions", though it's mainly due to the lacking sample quality doesn't do it justice, especially so in the case of your latest piece. Also, I apprieciate how you try to crescendo the percussion rolls, but you need to make the velocity change exponential for it to sound somewhat convincing. The orchestration seems pretty solid, though, and you also have a decent melody going on - but maybe try to invest in some better samples, or even try using soundfonts (which are free, and some of them quite nice actually).

Constaneum
February 6th, 2006, 08:09 am

Most of the terms I used were actually more on technical/production side. Sounfonts are a sample format that are natively supported by Creative/EMU sound cards, but most modern software samplers today offers support (Fruity Loops' being one of them) - however, there's also a free software that does soundfont emulation called SynthFont (http://www.synthfont.com/), so you can check that out if you don't have a Creative Labs Soundcard.

Do you know what velocity is and how to use it in MIDI? Most modern sequencers have a "piano roll" where you can sort of draw graphs to dynamically change a MIDI controllers - for example, volume, modulation, and panning, to name a few. I've attached a screenshot of Cakewalk Sonar 5 which shows you how my piano roll looks like, and in the example I roll the taiko drums, raising their velocity in a sort of exponential manner. For fast and heavy dynamic changes, you want to do in such a manner to make it sound realistic.

Kanashii (Sorrowful): is a nice tune but I dont think its sad at all...

a bitter past: this is a really nice little music-box piece, you should consider removing the "sleighbells" and changing the strings into the same sound the melody has.

Hehehe. Thanks for the comments guys. Anyway, let me finish off the rest of the 4 tracks which i've wanted to post onto the forum that day. =p Still from my anime album, Princess of Justice (Seigi no Hime).

1. City Al-Khamerh
2. From That Day Onwards ( My first accordian piece)
3. Missing You
4. Summon - Lorathien (another battle music =p)

Lorathien is actually a goddess who fights along Yuki's side. She's the goddess of peace, love and hope. The intro of the music is basically the part where Yuki performs a summoning ritual. The part where you'll hear strings with techno beat, follows by flute and guitar is the part Lorathien appears. At one part of "Summon - Lorathien", there's a music transition from battle music to angelic, soothing atmosphere. That's the part where Lorathien soars high above the sky, charges up her power and unleashes it onto her enemies.

Hope you'll enjoy all these 4 tracks. ^^

They're all very beautiful. And I was a little worried when I heard you would use an accordion, but you actually incorporated the instrument very well.

Good job. ^_^

Here's my final music composition for the time being. This time, i've really stopped composing music for my albums already but still helping friends to compose music for their multimedia project. Here's an orchestral music from my game album, Ominous. This track will be played during a game movie scene and the music is titled "Troops of Empire Chronicle". Hope you'll enjoy this track and plz comment. ^^
