I decided to do a composition with a strings quartet. Anyway, I'm not sure if I have got all the spellings of the chords right. It's not wonderful, but meh, I tried. Any suggestions and tips would be wonderful!

First off, I am glad that you want to compose music (which I hope you are). I think since you can write notes, that you can do so. Some things though.

Melody. Try to find one. It seemed like it was all just chords, with some dotted "melodies" here and there.

Theme. It didn't seem to have a pattern. You'd have some weird rests and solos.

Ending. I didn't really get anything "inspirational" out of this ending. It just seemed like a random note chord.. Sorry fir a litte harshness. But please do, take these into consideration.

Seemed a little too random. Really awkward, too. I agree completely with Maestro. Like he said, what kind of ending was that? Or are you simply not finished?

Needs a load of improvements. :heh:

Yeah I have to agree with what Maestro said. The melody seemed week and choppy here and there. Almost as if you just went wherever and whenever with no destination in mind.

I don't want to bash or anything, but the ranges that you kept the viola, and especially the cello, were off. The Viola (which I play :P) if in unison with violins are generally due to the mellow sound and strings generally play and octave or two lower if able. The cello wasn't used as a bass here at all, which caused a lot loss in contrast of your piece. I think it would help if you wrote in those two instruments native clefts so range would straighten out. You'd see what I mean. I think.... Or maybe I make no sense. hmm (Viola-alto cleft, cello-bass) Ooh! I'm intersted in seeing what you do next for a quartet.
