So heres a place to rate and recomend some anime OST's and singles.

~

I would, if I could, make everyone buy the Princess Mononoke OST. Its just, wow inspiring. Some singles to look out for though is Ashitaka and San, Princess Mononoke Theme and The Legend of Ashitaka.

An OST to buy just for singles though is Ghost In The Shell: SAC. Two songs in there are really good, I Cant Be Cool and Monochrome. Great Vocals.

Any soundtrack Yoko Kanno had a part in. I especially love the 2nd OST to BrainPower'd. Wolfs Rain's soundtrack is great as well... and of course so are Cowboy Bebop's and Lodoss War's etc etc. And Escaflowne's OSTs are possibly still my favorite.

I HIGHLY recommend Gankutsuou's normal soundtrack and the classical compilation. The sound is very different... technoized classical and also totally original songs, such as a waltz with French lyrics.

What else what else... oh Violinist of Hameln and Princess Tutu for OSTs full of really good classical music. For good background music, I love Loveless's soundtrack.

Kenshin's soundtracks of BGM during the Kyoto arc and for the OAV are awesome.

And of course. Can't go wrong with the diverse music of Utena. OST 2 and 3 are great, as is the Movie Soundtrack.

And ditto to Mononoke-hime's music... easily my favorite Ghibli soundtrack.

I HIGHLY recommend the OST for the Rurouni Kenshin OAVs, particularly the one for Trust and Betrayal. There aren't any vocal pieces in it, but it's filled with amazing piano and orchestral pieces, from dramatic, sad pieces, to exciting battle pieces. It's my favorite soundtrack of all time. Some highlights from that soundtrack include "In Memories: Ko-To-Wa-Ri," and "Wars of the Last Wolves."

The second soundtrack for that is also pretty good, although in my opinion, I liked the first much better. I also wan't too enthusiastic about the soundtracks for the anime series though. The tunes are nice as background pieces, but they're not really that enjoyable to listen to.

The Honey and Clover OST is also pretty nice. It's more for easy listening, although it does have a nice collection of sad and happy pieces mixed in. Nothing too orchestrated though. "Incessant Rain" is really touching.

If you're looking for something more dramatic and unique, I'd suggest the Tsubasa OST. "Break the Sword of Justice" and "A Song of Storm and Fire" are two pretty exciting pieces. The ost also contain some nice sadder pieces.

I definitely agree with rurouni kenshin, in memories ko-to-wa-ri is a really powerful song, but i think you have to watch the anime before a song has the right effect.

when you've watched something audio-visually, the song reminds you of what happens. in memories ko-to-wa-ri reminds me of the sad ending to trust/betrayal.
