Has anyone heard of the free MMORPG silk road? it just finished it's 2nd beta test and will begin it's 3rd beta test on the 24th so u all can sign up to play then. THey say it will be free forever with an item mall generating income.

I really like this one, great graphics, looks like World of Warcraft (maybe a bit less polished). Eventually you'll be able to play as Chinese, Arabian, Roman at some point when it's more finished, but currently you can only play as the Chinese race. Basically the premise of the game is that it's back in ancient times when the silk road was in full use. Once you reach lvl 20 (which doesnt' take TOO long) you can chose a job of either a Hunter, Trader, or Thief (jobs are signified by buying a wearable item so you can be all jobs, just not at the same time). THe map is HUGE so traders will buy stuff in china and sell them in rome or something for profit. Hunters are hired by traders for protection on the journey or can kill criminals or thieves by themselves, and thieves attack traders and steal their goods.

There are side quests mainly used to get items and lvl up but the main part of the game is just to participate on the silk road trading system.

If you guys are interested, the site is http://www.silkroadonline.net/
I'm on teh Xian server sn: kaifung

I've played silkroad once it came out into beta. Sadly, I stopped playing it because I keep getting killed from other players because of my cool looking blue cape >.>

but the game overall is pretty good! However, some things can be improved like an advanced class and skill system. That would make the game even more interesting!

ahh blue dragons, i'd have to kill ya too as a white tiger ^_^. It would be nice to have different classes but since their idea is an open ended character creation the whole class thing wouldnt' work with that ideal. The skill system isnt' bad though, I dunno when you stopped, but there are a LOT of skills now. It just takes a while to get them...

I think more interesting quests is most needed in this game. Right now questing is still jsut gathering an item or killing a certain number of monsters, nothing really special or interesting, jsut a way to lvl up. But this is still jsut Beta so hopefully they'll continue to add and improve.

Haha, yeah would be. I'm in some guild called AngesPerdue. Kinda sounds like we're chicken steaks or something. Not a very menacing game.

btw, onigiri, maple story?
(edit: GAK tried to get onto their site, they don't let me use Firefox, therefore they automatically lose)

yeah~haha Maple story is a sort of fun game, one of the only reason I like it its because it has cute graphics, A friend recommanded me to try it, and it was not bad, its hard these days to find 2D MMORPGs. Majority of them are like SIlk Road or Survival Project, so I play it during my spare time. (funny thing, it takes up all my time)

What is it with the term MMORPG, I mean how the heck can something be "massively multiplayer" either it is multiplayer or it isn't, sheesh acronyms these days.

With games, if you play any or not, Multiplayer tends to be more on the sides of a hundfull of players at once. The MM just means theres more then just your brother, sister and a friend from down the block sitting at the same TV, such as a potential suicidle girl in a Korean PC cafe ;)

No offense to this game... but I downloaded it... and then two days after I did the server went down... It was a fun game... but I went out and bought Guild Wars in frustration. Best $50 ever spent... however Silk Road is the best *free* MMORPG that I have played. 0_~

haha yeah it's still Beta so they'll just randomly shut down the servers to fix something. They're on 3rd trial test now so the downtimes are getting less.

but it IS still fairly annoying.

hmm i have NO idea when it'll be over. It's been somehting like a year of testing and they're on their 3rd closed beta already. the USA server is still way behind japan and korean servers so I assume there's still a while to go.

I started playing a while ago [as in hours; after weeks of it being on the computer] and its fun. More fun then Maplestory by a long shot.

I can't get on. it says that the servers are crowded or server traffic. Does it mean there are to many members for the game?

thats just the high time period =] where a "LOT" of people are playing at the same time so logging on is extremely difficult. it usually ends around 5 or 6 pm though. I used to play silkroad but got bored of it really fast because of the lag on my computer. I prefer ragnarok online better =]

They are still in their beta testing like stated a bit up, so the servers go down probably once a week for fixing. Its not a big deal though because its grinding is highly addictive so its okay to go sober after 3 days of playing.

Wow. such a dusty thread. Does anyone still play? More importantly, does it still always have full servers making it laggy or impossible to log in?

Hmm... I might give this game a test drive. I like maple story but it's frustrating sometimes to level, esp. since I make several characters (probably would had been third class by now if I sticked to only one). I'll see if it's worth my time. .-.

Don't even try to play on a weekend.

Weekends are hard on any MMORPG. WoW, everquest, etc. It's always the same. The servers get bogged down with millions of players at once and the server slows. It's like when you have 100 programs open on your computer at the same time. The whole thing slows down. It makes me glad that I only have net access on weekdays, which are a bit lower on their member counts.

Anyways. I'll try it out. I'm glad I have IE (linux, http://forums.ichigos.com/showthread.php?t=9376) so I can download it. I really don't like using IE, but if I have to, I will.

I'm tempted to download it... it doesn't make your computer crash or slow, does it? (<<has a WindowsXP)
Heh, I went on a few forums to see what other people thought about it and there were about fifteen threads about bots. ^__^ They say alot of people are stopping Silkroad because they don't like spending loads of time and hard work to get to good levels while others just cheat and get to higher levels in two seconds. Meh.
What's funny is, there was this other thread that offered a certain downloadable bot and at least two or three people were like, "Yeah, that sounds cool. Let's download it." ... and the next day later ... "WTF, MAN! Just after downloading it my comp started being really slow and then it crashed on me! You'd better have an explanation!!!!"

^.^ Silly people make me giggle.

I have Windows XP and all I get is some lag just like everyone else. I never actually notice the botters. Just remember it's rather difficult to play as the servers are always full to the brim.
