Your thoughts?

I dont really see how DS lite is really worth it if you just spend another 150 dollars just for 1/3 of its weight pulled off (or size). It just makes it more convient, but not enough to the point where they can sell it for 150 dollars.

that pisses me off that i feel obliged to buy a new version of my old DS just because i'll be left with an old-fashioned system. nintendo really annoy me at the moment the way they just leech money off existing franchises, ie pokemon, mario and the fact theres 4 different systems that play gameboy advance games:ranting: :ranting: :ranting:

I don't see a problem with the backwards compatibility of GBA games; it's actually a really nice touch, releasing you from having to purchase older systems to play older games. But yeah, they're stretching some franchises quite a bit. With Mario, though, the vast majority of games have still been good, though not quite stellar. Pokemon, on the other hand, has been slowly declining, as it's lost its novelty, and the advances they've made have only been asthetic touches. We need a mind-blowing advance like real-time voice controlled battle (we had Hey You, Pikachu, so why not?).

As for releasing a DS lite, I'd prefer to see it as this is the system they wanted to have, while the original DS was what they released to meet deadlines. This means that if you already have a DS, stick with it; if you don't have one yet, go with DS lite...kinda like how Sony phased out the bulky PS2 in favor of the slim one...

I think it's pretty, sure, but I'm not going to buy one just for the looks. I'll urge my friends to, however, so I can oggle it while they're kicking my ass.

My brother's getting one because he can't stand the buttons on the old DS. It also has a brighter screen.

Erm... it's your choice to buy it and not theirs? <_<

not all the time. i don't want to sound cynical, but people truly are manipulated by media, mainly advertising. i bought an sp even though my normal advance worked fine, just because i didnt want to look outdated.

you are right though, i am old enough to not get brain-washed by a marketing scheme:think:

You're the one who didn't want to look outdated. So in the end, it's you who made the decision to buy that SP, so it's your fault, not Nintendo's. They offer, it's your choice whether you buy or not. It's that simple.

Surely you'd get the "Ohhh fucking hell!!! I wish I'd waited a little longer!!" feeling when you buy a normal DS when the Lite is released like a week later?

Same thing happened with me on the iPod. I bought a 20gig standard one earlier last year. The 30 gig video came out like 3 months later selling at the same price.

Oh believe me, I do =\
That DS Lite looks so awesome, might have to get me one when the price drops :D

its their intention to make you do that or think that though. theres this theory ive been studying in media studies at school called the hyperdermic model, which is where advertising makes people want what is being shown.

at the end of the day, nintendo is not releasing the DS lite to do a nobel service to the public. they're doing it to make money and profit for themselves, thats why they've released an identical system, just with a more desirable image.<_<

Maybe, but in the end it's the people who buy it, and it's their choice. I wouldn't buy it just because it's a wee bit smaller. That's stupid.

Egmont

Well, of course. Nintendo's not a philanthropic service; it's a business. Businesses make money. It's their goal.

Allow me to pull a definition: "An organization operated with the objective of making a profit from the sale of goods or services."

Similarily: ad·ver·tis·ing ( ăd ' vər-tī ' zĭng ) n. The activity of attracting public attention to a product or business

You can hardly blame them for wanting to make a living. And to assert that anyone is forcing you to buy it is, indeed, quite absurd.

Yeah, there is a little bit of 'psychological brainwashing' going on when it comes to advertising and new products. Phrases like "new and improved" always work.

The original DS may not have been small enough or cool enough for some people to buy them. Why not release a new product to try to appeal to those people?

In my opinion... technology is advancing far too quickly for people to keep up. I know that whatever I buy now, is going to be on its road to being obsolete within a year, probably.

I love the new DS. Its really streemline and has a modern look. I like the double sceen symble on the shell top too, looks really cool.

And about the constant system redoing Nintendo does all the time, Im all for it. People who have an older version dont have to buy the new version like Angelic says, because it works just as fine. But for those who dont have it yet, Nintendo is just giving them another reason to buy it. BTW, people have been complaining about the DS's big and clunky design, and I think a redo is just what those people wanted.

And I dont know why people are complaining about the DS Lite so much. Obviously your not going to buy it, so just leave it at that. And Shezmeister, if you just decided to buy a GBA, would you wrather be stuck with one that looks like the original or a Micro?

Never, ever buy a handheld system from Nintendo when it first comes out, because 5 months later, they ALWAYS make a smaller one -_-.
Original Gameboy, Pocket Gameboy, Gameboy Color, GBA, GBA SP, GBA Micro, Nintendo DS, DS Lite. Wait another 6 months, probably going to make DS "ULTRA" Lite or something..@_@

lol it bothers me when someone has a better looking handheld system than I do.:heh:

I'll rather get PSP, vareity of games, music, movie player, awesome screen, and of cource.....Valkyrie Profile and FF: CC for PSP:lol:

Well it's just my opinion, I'll much rather play PSP games than DS games cause I think PSP games are better. (Note: Not just because PSP has good graphics)

Jesus, that's such a lame reason, backup your reasons, dude.

I'd rather play DS games anyday, PSP lacks good games, I mean bloody hell, what do they have??? GTA? been there done that, they didn't add anything to that game at all. I'm still waiting for PSP games worth buying at the moment. I only use my PSP for emulation tbh.

DS anyday, the games you can play online are awesome and they have quality games out as well, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart being one of them.

Excuse me, but im going to burst your bubble. FF: CC is going to the DS, according to what Square has "said". And if its not, it still get/got all the classic FF's, Children of Mana, Xenosaga 1&2, Black and White, Animal Crossing, MK: DS, Castlevania and bunches of more games.

EDIT: Forgot to say Earthbound for the GBA is comming out soon. (or was it Earthbound 2?..)

Ah yes, forgot about Castlevania, I even own it :D
And also, even though Nintendo sells loads of versions of a handheld, does it even matter? they still sell, look at the Micro, that thing is selling more or close to selling more than the PSP in Japan.
Get over it, Sony can't beat Nintendo in the handheld market.

Well, it's just I prefer games like sports, shooters, and action for handhelds rather than RPG type games (except VP, waiting for that).

Oh my...FF:CC not coming to PSP???x_x

There actually aren't many RPGs for the DS yet. The majority are action/adventure games, with some sports and shooters in.

Oh really huh? It will take a lot of black mailing of a big check for Nintendo to give up their rights for FF:CC to Sony, so ill you think on that for a bit (XD)

LOL I ain't talking about Final Fantasy: "CRYSTAL CHRONICLES". I'm talking about Final Fantasy: "CRISIS CORE" for the PSP..haha. I guess I have to be more detailed on what I say. I know for sure that Crystal Chronicles is for DS but the PSP gets Crisis Core, which I'm really anticipating..

Well, that is one of the only reasons why im jelous of the PSP, Crisis Core is going to it *cries in the inside*
