How large is the large? U can try down sampling using certain video compression software. Nero vision express for example.

Conserning DVD playback:

Well, without doing anything to the file itself, you can only fit about 69 min and 30 seconds on one video disk (typical 700MB 80 min CDr). The only thing you can do is to reformat the video file. And by doing that you get SVCD (the wrong way to go in this situation) or XVCD, which is not guarenteed to work on VCD compatable DVD players.

What my solution to you is... a little costly.

I would suggest purchasing an AVI compatable DVD player and re ripping the DVD in XVID or Divx format. Those two have far more flexiblity in the file format. But then again, I don't use the VCD format too often. It might be possible to change the overall quality. I'm just going by what I read at Doom9.

Conserning computer playback:

Chose a popular format to re encode the file in and ajust the values accordanly. I've never tried it before, but the program RealAnime (version 3.2 or 4.0) supports re encoding of the MPEG format and has a pretty nice GUI. It's also free! You can check it out from the link in my sig (AVI>>RMVB).
