Questions:

1) Do you mean unlicensed or licensed anime?
2) What exactly are you looking for (type-wise e.g. humorous, peace of life, action/adventure)?

hmmm I jsut finished Futakoi Alternative and i really liked it. I guess you would call it a romatic comedy (don't let the opening fool you, it's not a girls with guns series, they just did that to throw u off). Very emotional but also very very wierd. Think FLCL if there was more romance.

I'm watching Honey & Clover right now. REALLY funny. especially if you're currently a college student. Only watched 4 eps so far, but i love it. The opening is creepy as hell tho. Makes sense of you think about it I guess, considering they're starving students.

Is there anything like D.N.ANGEL becuse that was a pretty good show. But i also liked inuyasha, caseclosed, neon genisis evangelion,FMA, and Samurai Chaploo

M

DN Angel is a pretty unique series, so finding a match is kinda hard (unless you liked the school life part, which then it's a dime a dozen).

For parallel animes to the ones you've suggested:

Inuyasha->Bleach (http://www.anidb.info/a2369)/Berserk (http://www.anidb.info/a98) (Demons, swords, and battles)
Dective Conin->Spiral (http://www.anidb.info/a245) (kinda hard to find in local retail stores; it's Cased Closed in a nutshell (though it lacks the some odd 426 episode feel that Cased Closed presents))
Evangelion->RahXephon (http://www.anidb.info/a14)
FMA->Haibane Renmei (http://www.anidb.info/a271)(for storyline and complete feeling ONLY- FMA is truly original in concept.)
Samurai Chaploo->Cowboy Bebop (http://www.anidb.info/a23)

You might like Ghost in the Shell (http://www.anidb.info/a247), but it's pretty, to use there words, Cyber Punk

Some good ones that I personally suggest:

Fate/Stay Night (http://www.anidb.info/a3348) (up to Eps 4 right now - action/drama... A lot of catigories)
Canvas 2 ~Niji Iro no Sketch~ (http://www.anidb.info/a3215) (up to Eps 14 - Hariem/Love-Romance)
Noein - Mou Hitori no Kimi e (http://www.anidb.info/a3512) (sci-fi)
Rozen Maiden (http://www.anidb.info/a2386) (Chucky meets Barney, in a sense; slight lolita complex undertones)
Solty Rei (http://www.anidb.info/a2858) (Action - the series seems to be on stall...)
Tsubasa Chronicle (http://www.anidb.info/a2733) (it's licensed now, but I'm still going to follow it through - It's a good mix of everything anime)

Slightly Older, but still good, Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito (http://www.anidb.info/a1093) (Yuri - it has some pretty different aspects and a storyline I've never seen before until Tsubasa Chronicle (though I'm sure there are others like it))

oh after seeing M's post, i gotta say try Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and 2nd Gig. I really didn't like the movies all that much but these two series were fantastic. Great story line that makes you actually think to follow it mixed with good action scenes and great characters. 2nd Gig was japanese Pay Per View so the quality is through the roof.

Yeah the topic is named "Name changes". I kept with the topic.

Wow thats quite a bit of anime to chose from. I mean alot. Are there any that are long series. You know, like inuyasha, caseclosed, FMA (well o.k. FMA insint exactly long, but you know what i mean). Becuse i dont really want to end up with a short anime about 13 to 26 episodes long i mean come on. I know that well some of the greatest animes can be short but i want a long show that is great one mind you. So message back with your recomendations for long, lasting shows o.k.

M
February 3rd, 2006, 07:30 pm
You just cut out about 95% of the anime market! 12, 24, and 26 are the most common numbers to see in an anime series. OVAs being 1-6 long.

Card Captor Sakura is 70 Epsodes long (if you count the movies it's 76).
If you watch all of the Crest/Bannor of the Stars, it's pretty long (38 eps and continuing).
Gundam SEED is 51 eps long
Gundam Wing is 49 eps long (53 if you count the OVA Endless Waltz eps)
Full Moon wo Sagashite is 52 Eps long (though it could have been 12 eps. They just put in a large number of filler epsodes).

Of everything I have posted, those are the longest series. It doesn't mean they are the absolute best, it just means they drag the story out.

I would go with The Crest/Bannor of the stars series, because of the somewhat humorous romance and complex background story. But I'm into that sci-fi, space thing, and I just love the plot line/characters, no matter how dry the english dub makes Lafiel sound.

If your looking for entertainment rather than enrichment, go with Gundam SEED or Wing.

If you want cutesy, lovible animes, go with CCS or Full Moon wo Sagashite.

Check out the links in the above post to find reviews and outlooks on the anime.

^That anime rocked. Best thing since sliced bread.

Full Moon wo Sagashite, and Bannor of the Stars III are currently unlicensed. Meaning you won't find them in stores. They have to be downloaded.

I don't really know what stores are at your disposal, but I found all of these (except the unlicensed ones) at my local Best Buy store. But I know they're on Amazon.com.

(I did the work for amazon.com)

Just a small list of stuff that's coming down the pipes right now that I'd recommend:

Hantsuki
Ichigo Mashimaro
Kasimasi
Magikano
Mai Otome
Pani Poni Dash
Shakugan No Shana

Recently completed that I'd recommend:

Honey and Clover OVA
School Rumble OVA
Shuffle
Suzuka

Of course you should do a little research before watching to see if you're even interested in that genre of anime. I'd recommend animenfo, anidb, or the animereactor forums for info/discussion.

I can almost garauntee that you'll like these anime series.
Elfen Lied: 14 eps lots of gore and nudity, but unbelievable story
Berserk: 26 eps (or 24?) action, one of best stories
Wolf's Rain: Not much action, but it's still a must see
Gungrave: Has to do with mafia, which doesnt sound that cool but its actually awesome

Dead Panda

There's Boogie Pop Phantom. But, its like, an anime for, 'certain' kinds of people. Otherwise I dont think you'd like it. Nothing dirty though.

M: I gotta say, i liked FMP:TSR much more than the original. I liked the more serious slant.

and Ichigo 100%, is the anime that good? I read the manga and loved it, but I hear that the anime version is a real letdown. not as deep character wise or something.

M
February 7th, 2006, 02:26 pm
Well... Ichigos 100% starts from nowhere and goes to nowhere. Personally I found it entertaining. The animation was crisp, and I liked the character design.

The ending... Doesn't exist. There are many flaws, but the anime, somehow, clicked with me. That's why I'm saying to watch it.

...wait... I put a star by it's name didn't I? *corrects*

I liked the humorous string of the FMP series, that's why I chose Fumoffu over TSR. If your one for a more serious anime, tack on TSR.

kkleung
February 8th, 2006, 01:48 pm
really? in the manga version of Ichigo 100% it had a GREAT ending it was one of the few of that genre that really made me feel satisfied. It actually got better and better close to the end. I guess they dumbed it down a bit for the anime version.

yeah Fumoffu was hilarious. I mean, it was just supposed to be a compilation of filler episodes ripped from various chapters of the novel, but it was still fantasatic. I wish all series could do fillers with that kind of quality.

In my opinion, a romance genera is high up there. Try watch Kimi ga Nozumo Eien, Air TV, or Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora (I would not recomend these for your purpose, Alone, because they have some suggestive scenes GAH~! Wrong thread!), and you might better understand what to look for in the romance genera.

Hmmm as for good anime that's running in Japan right now... my picks are:

Noein - really... this is GONZO's new Gankutsuou... their shining, original, out-there title of 2005-2006. Quantum physics, multiple dimensions, tempting fate... It feels somewhat Escaflowne-ish but more about the future than a fantasy present.

Eyeshield 21 - I DESPISE football... I DESPISE sports anime... alas, I ADORE Eyeshield 21. Everything is right... the characters are interesting, the plot moves along well, there's an amazing balance of comedy and emotion. I can't recommend it enough.

And winner of one of the worst titles running right now is Naruto... because... CRIPES, SO MUCH HORRIBLE FILLER! >_< I want my Kakashi backstory, darnit!

I heard about naruto's filler, but bleach is getting just as bad. What the heck are "bountou"s? I doubt they are even in the manga...

good anime would be fate stay night, even though they are kind of slow moving at the moment, shakugan no shana is ending soon <-- not a bad anime at all. Noein is looking interesting too~

anyone watched "kashimashi- girl meets girl"? ^^'' that's one weird anime.
