Sephiroth looks stupid in FFVII: AC. Far too feminine, laughably so. I can't wait to see what Aeris/Aerith looks like! I think there are a few scans of her at that site someone posted earlier.

Hmmm... on second thought, a moldy, half-eaten (by fish), bloated undead Aeris would be kinda cool. I'm seeing Resident Evil meets FFVII . Of course I jest, but seriously, if they were going to bring her back with a Phoenix down, why didn't they just let you do it in the game?

Yeah, I always wonder why Cloud never used that on Aeris =P Makes no sense at all and kind of destroys the whole FF7 storyline.

But, isn't there a difference between being KO'd and having a sword going right through you? Somehow, I think the phoenix down theory wouldn't work too well.

Ok, if they are just KO-ed, then why do you lose a battle when everyone's KO? Why don't they just regain conciousness after a while? I don't support the KO theory simply because it doesn't make sense, when you're KO you wake up after a while.

M
July 12th, 2004, 01:57 am
The KO is just another term for death, but used so that the game rating is lower, why else would their be a spell called LIFE that brings a charater out of KO?

@Angelic: That would be an intresting idea to bring to RPG's... But then how could you lose?

Elite666
July 12th, 2004, 08:17 pm
Maybe if you've been KO'd when you awaken you would have half stats and then if you are KO'd a second time you would die.

ehh why would aeris need to be revived or whatever... ac is a prequel

Elite666
July 13th, 2004, 10:19 pm
FFVII:AC is a sequel. It happens 2 years after the events of FFVII (that's what square-enix' official website says and I'm inclined to believe them). Even if it was a prequel, Cloud didn't meet Aeris until the opening of FFVII so it wouldn't make much sense to have her in a prequel that centers around Cloud.

A translation of most important parts of the official site can be found at

I'm sure they can think of something. For example, they might show aeris falling and going down, but then someone that we never saw is underwater and savers her, or maybe she floated to surface and some white mage revived her, who knows, there are so many possiblities that can occur. Though I haven't seen that part for months, if I recall, we only saw Aeris fall in, we didn't see what happen after that.

Now that you guys mention it, it is really funny that he never used a Phoenix Down on Aeris. Oh well. I think FF7: AC might be cool, the trailor looked neat

Elite666
July 15th, 2004, 06:46 am
No offense Nightmare but those scenarios are about what I hope they don't do. If Aeris comes back it should be cool, interesting and complex. It can't just be some everyday occurance like a white mage bringing her back (it wouldn't matter if someone grabbed her body while it was falling because it was still just a body), if it was, there isn't any logical reason why Cloud wouldn't have done it in FFVII.

Also, There is a basic difference to being dead and being downed in battle that Angleic mentioned (I think it was Angelic, sorry if I have it wrong) and Aeris was most definitely dead.

However, I think it would be cool if Aeris came back by some huge ritual at Cosmo Canyon (or any other mystical setting) or maybe if she was brought back as the embodiment of the spirit of the planet, it wouldn't really be Aeris but it would use her image to get to Cloud.

Either way the movie looks cool. I don't think the Sephiroth character is really Sephiroth (except where they show the flashbak to Nibelheim). I think there are actually multiple Sephiroth clones that are opposing Cloud. Also, looking at the title, Advent usually refers to the Second coming of Christ whereas I think it could very well refer to the second coming of Sephiroth and these Advent Children are his lesser clones.

One last thing, did anyone else think the figure dressed in a white cloak in the first trailer was actually Sephiroth? After all, they show the nibelheim flashback directly after you see him.

I'm working off the Merriam-Webster dictionary's defenition for the word "Advent".
This can be found at dictionary.com as the second set of definitions. Advent is more or less the same thing here with "Advent Calenders" a countdown to Christas involving 24 chocolates.

By the way Angelic, where is "over here" I'm not trying to be creepy but you've referred to "Americans" from an outsider point of view (which I can identify with, I'm Canadian) and you have a western European time zone. Nothing important but it piqued my interest.

Replacing "Sephiroth" with "Genova" might make more sense . . . after all, isn't Sephiroth a child of Genova ?

I found a website that's got some pretty good info on Advent Children. It's ffshrine.org. They've got a pic of Aeirs there. Click here (http://www.ffshrine.org/ffac/aeris.new.jpg)

They've also got some stuff on the prequel. Can't remember at the moment what it's called. If your looking for it, it's by Advent Children, Tactics, and Crystal Chronicals in the menu under the games.

oh man, I wish it would be longer

one thing that worries me about this movie is that they are gonna give voices to these characters. We've imagined the voices of these characters for years, and now, it's gonna be defined (like how LOTR movie ruined the book) Actually, I never really imagined voices for these characters, but now they'll just... be there. I dunno, the wrong voices could ruin the movie, sorta like an english dub of an anime (which all you otaku hate soooo much =P )

EDIT: another thing I wondered, since this isn't about a video game (technically) then why is this topic in Games? (now I'm just being a smart ass; sorry :( )

The voices... there are trailers which have Cloud's voice in them, I think. I haven't watched any of the trailers, seeing as my slow connection can't handle any 'big' files. <_< The voices should amuse me for some time if they aren't well done. XD

Nightmare

Lol, good point servbot. The voices will annoy me also. But I know they aren't going to do little text bubles in it. Though if they did something like subtitles, that would be preferable, but not realistic. I wonder what serphiroth will sound like.

servbot
July 18th, 2004, 03:10 am
The wrong voice for sephiroth could completey and permanently ruin his image. It would be almot revolutionary. I can almost see then giving him a voice like the English Pegasus (Yu Gi Oh) or Ayame (Fruits Basket) because of his long, white hair XD

I don't think a lot of animation movie get past 1:30.

For the voices..I think this quite relative. I could like the voice and you could not. But still, it doesn't mean they are good or bad. It's a matter of choice, and that's not us who make it. For LOTR, the voices were actually the real voice of the actor...so I don't see the point about this ruining the movie.

Yoshinobu
July 25th, 2004, 12:50 pm
The voice actor listed for Cloud is Takahiro Sakurai and for Sephiroth it is Shinichirô Miki. Both voice actors played the role of their retrospecitve characters in the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts.

Those are the voice actors for Cloud and Sephiroth. If they did the Japanese voices in Kingdom Heart, surely they won't be so bad...?

Then again, it could end up like FF:SW and then it would have bad enough voice acting that everyone would hate it. I really hope that doesn't happen. I just hope they include a subbed version on the DVD, I think English voices usually end up ruining any Japanese media. It doesn't matter how good the voice is because they need to change the meaning of the dialogue to fit with the dubbing.

Show me one Anime where the dubbing is better than the subbing and I'll agree that it could be good but unless Square Enix is going to redo all of the different mouth animations to work with a properly translated English script, it isn't likely to work well no matter how good the actual voice acting is.

Actually, accurate lip-synching has been done in videogames already. Take a look at baten kaitos trailer. (http://s.streamingmovies.ign.com/ps2/article/515/515536/BatenKaitos_051304_01_wmvlow.wmv) This is a perfect example of how to do localization right. Not only are all of the voices perfect and well acted but Namco also took the time to redo all the lip-synching to be almost perfect enough to read the characters lips in English. Granted there is probably less movie to redo to get the lip-synching right in a videogame but the technology is there.

From http://www.adventchildren.net/ff7ac/site/faq/ac.htm:

Originally Advent Children was scheduled to be released in Summer 2004 in Japan. However just after E3, the release date was changed to a more vague "2004" timeframe. Information released soon after indicated that Advent Children would be released after Before Crisis, which is being released in September in Japan. This puts the Japanese release date somewhere between September and December 2004.

The US release date is likely to be some time during the first quarter of 2005, either at the same time as Sony's PSP or sometime shortly after. A couple of online gaming stores have recently opened pre-orders for the PSP version of the movie, and list speculative release dates between the end of March/early April.

No European or Australian release date has been heard of as yet, although like the games, we speculate that it would be likely a release will occur for these countries after the movie is released in the US.
